Respect Weather Wizard

This is a respect thread for one of the original members of The Rogues; Weather Wizard. Originally a small time crook who was arrested on counts of burglary, Mark Mardon was a nobody. That was, of course, until he escaped from the Police during an escort to prison and found refuge in his brother's meteorological observatory. At this point his origin story differs; in his first ever appearance The Flash #110 - Challenge of the Weather Wizard! / Meet Kid Flash! it's told that Weather Wizard found his brother already dead in his observatory, and then, after making a few tweaks to the Weather Wand his brother was working on, became the Weather Wizard. Yet, in Final Crisis: Rogues' Revenge #3 - Book Three it's recounted by Captain Cold that Weather Wizard killed his brother and stole the wand; a darker story that gives Mark some inner demons.

Weather Wizard is one of the few Rogues who has always maintained the title; unlike the Legacy Rogues, Captain Boomerang, Mirror Master and Trickster.

This thread will cover all versions of Weather Wizard, so make sure to check what issue the feat is from should you use the feats in this thread to argue for the character.

Let's get down to business.

1.0 | Origins

This has been touched upon in the introduction of the thread; however, should you wish to read the origin(s) yourself, here they are.

Original Origin: The Flash #110 - Challenge of the Weather Wizard! / Meet Kid Flash!

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3

This is the more "friendly" origin in which Mark comes across his deceased brother and then becomes the costumed-criminal known as Weather Wizard.

Modified Origin: Final Crisis: Rogues' Revenge #3 - Book Three

No Caption Provided

In this version we see Mark's brother, Clyde, attempt to call the cops on him. This leads to Mark wielding the Weather Wand for the first time and using it to kill his brother.

New 52 Origin: The Flash #10 - Weather Wizard

His origin in the N52 appears to be highly modified and I can't recall (or seem to find) how he became the Weather Wizard. In this universe his name is Marco and his brother is Claudio, together they run the Mardon Family, a crime organization. At one point Claudio is double crossed by Elsa (a woman who married into the Mardon family, through Marco I think) which results in a more aggressive Marco.

Eventually he learns that Elsa had betrayed the family (and his brother) and he tries to kill them both with a lightning strike -- it fails, as only Elsa winds up dead. Sometime after this he joins the Rogues and the rest is history.

2.0 | Profiles

Weather Wizard has various handbook entries from different eras. The information in them is a tad limited, but they're fun, so why not include them.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5

In order of the images; here are the issues they come from:

It's unfortunate that he's called unintelligent in one of those handbook entries, because that's far from the truth. He's actually one of the most educated Rogues of the bunch and he's got an odd obsession with Mark Twain.

3.0 | Powers & Abilities

Weather Wizard's main power is weather manipulation -- as an attempt at organization I've grouped the "types" of weather manipulation into several different groups.

3.1 | Wind Manipulation - Tornadoes/Twisters/High Winds

This section will feature anything wind-related, so tornadoes, twisters, high winds, etc.

Context: Weather Wizard and the Rogues have teamed up with Inertia (this was before he was Kid Zoom) and in this action shot we see him sending several people flying towards the sky with a huge gust of wind. Context: Generates hail that clumps onto a police officer and then solidifies, freezing him.

No Caption Provided

Issue: The Flash #127 - Hell Breaks Loose

Context: While under Neron's control, generates bullet-like hail. I don't believe that Neron did anything to amplify their original powers, just completely eliminated any morals and allowed them to regenerate like seen in the scan. I better not see anyone trying to pass this off by saying that Weather Wizard has a healing factor.

No Caption Provided

Issue: The Flash #175 - Birth Right Part 1: Eye of the Storm

Context: Generates some decent sized hail in the middle of July that smashes a vehicle up pretty bad.

No Caption Provided

Issue: Villains United #2 - Who Are The Secret Six?

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

Issue: The Flash #188 - Crossfire part 5 of 5

Context: Begins to melt the polar ice-caps using a series of high intensity lightning bolts.

Context: Generates some lightning indoors to free him from his handcuffs.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

Issue: The Flash #127 - Hell Breaks Loose

Context: While under Neron's control he hits Jay Garrick several times with lightning. Again, I don't believe anything was enhanced under Neron's control aside from a lack of morals and an impressive healing factor.

No Caption Provided

Issue: The Flash #175 - Birth Right Part 1: Eye of the Storm

Context: Blasts a vehicle into pieces with a lightning bolt.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

Issue: The Flash #175 - Birth Right Part 1: Eye of the Storm

Context: Without being able to see his targets, is able to kill 4 members of the Royal Flush Gang at once with lightning bolts.

No Caption Provided

Issue: Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion #5 - Fastest Psychopath Alive

Context: Hits Atomica and Johnny Quick of the Crime Syndicate with lightning bolts.

No Caption Provided

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

Issue: The Flash #10 - Weather Wizard

Context: Tries to kill himself and Elsa after realizing that she betrayed the family. She dies but he survives, this is when he first realized his immunity in the N52.

4.0 | Misc. Feats & Statements

Here's some misc feats and statements that I didn't know where to put in the thread, so here they sit.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

Issue: The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #11 - Full Throttle: Storm Front

Context: Inertia steals and destroy's Weather Wizard's wand. He mentions that the only reason he uses the wand is because it's a psychological thing, later on in the issue we see Weather Wizard using his powers WITHOUT the wand. So it's possible for him to use his powers without the wand, but he likes having it.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

Issue: The Flash #176 - The Weather Wizard's Out For Blood

Context: Weather Wizard's Wand electrocutes other people who try and use it. He's also able to force it back to his hand(s).

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

Issue: The Flash #221 - Rogue War 2

Context: He's able to reverse the polarity of people, like he did to Magenta, which results in some unfortunate electrocution.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4

Issue: The Flash #139 - The Black Flash Part 1 of 3

Context: Utilizes all a multitude of weather effects, such as, hail the size of footballs, ice bolts, and sun beams that can burn through flesh and bone. What Weather Wizard was doing there was bringing life to a dead zone, which is pretty cool too.

No Caption Provided

Issue: The Flash #221 - Rogue War 2

Context: This feat is just to show how vast his storms can be. Here he's got tons of lightning blasting around as well as 3 tornadoes, all destroying his surroundings.

No Caption Provided

Issue: Adventures of Superman #596

Context: He apparently has the ability to teleport, but I swear this is the only time it's happened. Kind of bizarre.

Conclusion

Weather Wizard is one of the most versatile rogues of the bunch -- his command over weather is quite impressive and his ruthlessness makes nature 1000% more deadly.

I hope you enjoyed the thread and keep a lookout for more threads featuring Flashes Rogues!

Great thread. I would've thought you'd add the bit in Crossfire where Mark's hurricane was shown to be blatantly city level and IIRC Wally stated dodging his lightning is hard (implying it is natural speed).
