Respect Thread: Legend of Korra's Villains.

Amon was first introduced as a non-bender of the terrorist group known as the "Equalists". They were meant to equalize everyone by removing bending altogether from the world. It later revealed that Amon was born as a Waterbender named Noatak in the Northern Water Tribe. His father Yakone was a notorious criminal boss in Republic City (Mainly where the series is set) who was known for his ability to Bloodbend without a full moon, something previously thought impossible. Yakone passed this ability down to his two sons, Noatak and Tarrlok. After quite a few years of cruel training, Amon attacked his father and ran away, thought to be dead after so many years had passed.

Blood Bending -

It was later revealed that Amon had so much control over bloodbending, he could do it without the target actually noticing, leaving them thinking they missed. The most notable instance of this is probably his showing against Lighting Bolt Zolt:

However that does not mean he lacks raw power in his bloodbending.

Speed -

Although Amon may make his targets miss, it does not mean he is not fast himself.

Amon has also demonstrated notable agility (as seen in his fight with Zolt), as well as below.

Durability -

Amon was also.. weirdly durable. He didn't show any enhanced strength or anything, but his durability was actually very odd..

He got zapped by Mako in a huge blast, sent flying back into the wall and having Mako make a bunch of beams and panels fall on him.. and he recovered with seemingly no damage in about 30 or so seconds. (The feat above when he ragdolls Mako is directly after this)

Korra sends a huge explosive blast into Amon's carriage, and despite being the closest to the blast (He hadn't even fully entered), he doesn't even so much as flinch while every other equalist is sent flying backwards.

Waterbending -

We didn't get to see much of this, a shame too as his level of bloodbending was competely unmatched. He didn't seem like a bad waterbender so it sucks we didn't get to see more. He only had two feats of waterbending:

Unalaq was first introduced as the Northern Water Tribe Chief, later shown to be brother of Tonraq, the previous Northern Chief, Current Southern Chief and Father of the current Avatar (Korra). It was later revealed that Unalaq had sabotaged his brother in order for him to be banished, and joined the Red Lotus (shown later on in this respect thread). Unalaq's agenda parted from the Red Lotus's and he left before they were captured. He later released the Dark Avatar spirit Vaatu, someone parallel to the Light Avatar Spirit Raava.

Waterbending -

I know some are going to disagree, but in my opinion.. Unalaq is the best Non-Avatar/Bloodbending Waterbender in both series. Yea, Ming-Hua and Katara could probably beat him under the right circumstance, but the same could be said for him as well.

The raw power of Unalaq is pretty insane, below he is moving who knows how many tons of ice trapping Korra, forcing her to go into the Avatar State to survive. This is pretty notable outside the pure strength required, as Korra was born a natural Waterbender her self, and was a bending prodigy learning three elements at the age of four.. while most Avatars don't even start untill they are 16.

You want to know why that was concaved like so? Unalaq opened it.

He's flatout destroyed Bolin's rocks with a pretty small amount of Water.

He's simultaneously destroyed both rocks from Bolin and destroyed a pretty huge blast from Mako (who doesn't get enough credit), and then in a really impressive feat, competely overpowered Bolin's huge boulder with his pure strength of water.

He's controlled a pretty big amount of snow:

This is a little harder to see, but look at the size of the wall he makes. That's pretty goddamn big.

He's easily broke through over a dozen boulders of Ice that Korra sent his way by making his Water Whips:

Speed -

Quite a few feats above are speed feats themselves, but these below are the ones that don't involve any offensive waterbending, and are mainly evading or dodging.

Dodges three pretty big blasts from Korra (In the Avatar State)

Reacting to Tonraq's "blitz" (Not a blitz, don't really know the word).

Reacting too a giant airblast and summoning his water tornado at pretty insane speeds.

Decent jumping feat

Dark Avatar -

Future reminder to update this with Dark Avatar feats, probably wont anytime soon.

Zaheer is the leader of the Red Lotus, a martial arts expert, and an anarchist, who strongly believes in the foundation of a new world without the Order of the White Lotus, the four nations, or the Avatar. After the Harmonic Convergence of 171 AG, he also became an airbender and, after having let go of his final earthly tether, he unlocked the ability of flight, becoming the second person ever to have done so.

While in pursuit of his goals, Zaheer and three of his comrades were captured and imprisoned in separate, high-security prisons. Upon becoming an airbender thirteen years later, he escaped the custody of the Order of the White Lotus and subsequently freed his allies from prison, including his girlfriend P'Li, thus the start of book three.

(I typed up Amon and Unalaq's, but I honestly can remember RL's backstory, these are going to be from the wiki)

Airbending -

Although Zaheer only had a few weeks with the power, and no actual master.. He was pretty impressive. He used two abilities never seen before: Flight and Suffocation. The latter probably never being used cause Monk's are kind of pacifists.. but hey, we sort of know why the militarized Fire Nation waited for Sozin's Comet to take on pacifist nomads.

Decent Airblast to pull the guard toward him, notable speed as well as the cleared the distance before the target or the rest of the guards could react. (To be fair, they weren't expecting Zaheer to randomly learn to airbend when they were nearly extinct)

Pretty good deflection of Kya's water, and getting in a good hit on her

One shotting two firebenders, nice agility as well.

Taking out Kya with a single blast

Taking out some Dai Li

Deflecting Tonraq and a chained up Korra's attacks, eventually overwhelming Tonraq, and while they did tag Zaheer, it wasn't through a lack of skill or speed on Zaheer's part, just some good ol' father and daughter team work.

Ghazan was an earthbending fugitive and a member of the Red Lotus who was put into criminal custody under the Order of the White Lotus in 158 AG after participating in an attempt to kidnap Avatar Korra. He possessed the rare ability to lavabend. He later committed suicide when faced with the certainty of going to jail otherwise, in a failed attempt to kill Bolin and Mako.

Earthbending -

His raw power is pretty good

The power of earth, the maneuverability of water and the lethality of fire all in one ability.

P'Li was a powerful firebending criminal who possessed the rare ability to combustionbend. A long-time member of the Red Lotus, she followed Zaheer, her boyfriend, in the attempt to rid the world of all governments and the Avatar.[3] After a thirteen-year long imprisonment at the hands of the Order of the White Lotus, she escaped with the help of Zaheer, Ming-Hua, and Ghazan,[4] with whom she threw the Earth Kingdom into anarchy and tracked Avatar Korra. P'Li died during a battle on top of Laghima's Peak when Suyin Beifong metalbent her chest plate around P'Li's head, causing one of her combustion attacks to explode in the confined space.

Firebending -

She only had two notable feats:

Blocking Druk's fireblast (Zuko's dragon)

Blocking Mako's fire

Combustionbending -

One shotting Druk, Lin, Kai and Tonraq respectively <-- Lin and Tonraq blocked as well making it all the more impressive.

She has one shot Tenzin as well while he was blocking, but he was weakened as he did take an indirect shot from her previously. So I didn't include it above.

Though it wasn't her strong suit, she had a notable feat

Ming-Hua was a congenitally armless waterbending fugitive and a member of the Red Lotus. She was previously held in a maximum security facility above a volcano, monitored by the Order of the White Lotus until she escaped with the assistance of Zaheer and Ghazan in 171 AG. She was killed by Mako when he directed a bolt of lightning toward her, which was conducted and strengthened by numerous water tendrils attached to her body.

Waterbending-

While this is impressive on Ming's behalf, what Bolin did in this scene was quite literally the definition of stupidity.

Speed -

Ming-Hua's most dangerous ability is to combine nearly unmatched agility with her deadly waterbending becoming an insanely deadly combo.

Ming channels her inner Tarzan and completely wrecks the twin's shit

Side-stepping Desna and Eska's projectiles

Huge jump and turning into a.. drill and showcasing some agility.

Easily dodging Mako's blasts

Kuvira was first introduced in book three, as a Zao Fei guard and dancer. At the end of book three the Earth Kingdom was divided massively, so Kuvira took it upon herself to unite it. This was generally accepted by everyone because Kuvira was suppoused to give the Crown up to the new rightful King once she was done.. but Kuvira decided to make Earth Kingdom a free united nation under her control instead. Cue the start of Book Four.

Earthbending -

Although Kuvira was more focused on metal and she does have some raw power.

Good bending feat all around, completely crushes a 1+ ton boulder like nothing.

Deflecting and dodging some pretty huge boulders from bandits

Goes from unconcious to nearly knocking Korra out in under a second with a pretty small boulder (both were injured tho)

Hits Korra with a decent sized rock

Trapping Korra

Twists the ground underneath Korra

Targeting Korra's knee

Metalbending -

As you can see above, Kuvira likes to mix her Earthbending into her fighting style as well. She is not just a primary Metalbender.

She's got some raw strength in this department as well

Kuvira's signature technique is the use of her metal bands, similar to Mai's throwing knives except Kuvira has control over hers. Below is her ragdolling the shit out of Korra

Kuvira is pretty damn fast, look at below with her fight with Korra. Yes, Korra was sick, but Kuvira was laughing inbetween dancing through her attacks, her not being sick wouldn't have much difference.

Looks very good. Loved the art.

I would also like to add for each Red Lotus member that their respective bending mastery transcended the norms as their abilities were individually highly unique and incredibly potent. Ming Hua is known for her unpredictability for her water tendrils and can develop more water arms if provoked enough. Ghazan and P'li possess abilities that could instantly kill opponents outright, with P'li's control of combustion bending being superior to the Combustion Man's because it is able to bounce targets (which can be used as a strategic intention to intentionally miss then hit the target on the second bounce). Zaheer is incredibly prodigious with airbending, learning the art by himself and at the end was able to challenge Tenzin to a duel, holding his own for a good while. His knowledge of flight gives him an innate advantage over opponents due to superior mobility, an edge that is crucial when it comes to accuracy and evasion.

Amon is just God Tier and Unalaq is among the best of the best of waterbenders in the mythos. There is no disputing that.

What these youtube plebs don't seem to understand is that all of Korras villains with the exception of maybe Zaheer are more powerful than any of Aangs bar comet amped Ozai which he went avatar mode to kill anyway. And Amon and unalaq post vattu fuse are better than even that. And Korra is still "weak" compared to Aang. B****, read this thread and take several seats.

@vengefulshot: You wish. Besides Amon and Unavaatu, Korra's villians aren't above Aang's. Ozai is vastly superior to all of the Red Lotus, Kuvira, and Tarrlok, Combustion Man is better too. Zuko and Azula would any of her vilians individually.

Korra sucks. Once Ozai had broken Amon's grip he would kill him immediately. While underneath Sozin's Comet Ozai would have stomped Dark Avatar Unalaq, it's sad that Korra couldn't even gain the upperhand against him, when she still had a connection with the past Avatars lol. She really is an Ahvatar.

Although a minor villain, I think Amon's Lieutenant should be added.

I really should start watching this show, it seems great.
