I ain't just Crusher Creel, an ordinary con anymore! I'm the Absorbing Man... the most dangerous guy in the world!!

Introduction

Arf, it's another big RT for a pretty big boi

So yeah, the reason I'm making this is because Creel's actually a pretty awesome character when you get down to it (his role in Black Bolt's solo run was a particular highlight, give that a read pls) and because he's a really tough cookie. Seriously, he's given guys like Sentry, Hulk, The Avengers grief, and even beat down Odin and Dormammu on occasions.

His magical powers (given to him by Loki) are essentially that he gains the properties of whatever he has physical contact with, so if he grabs something made out of metal, he gains the proprieties of that particular metal. Really simple stuff on paper, but it has a lot of surprising versatility behind it, as we'll see here.

Also made this because there's literally no RT's on him that are good. Seriously, it's really bad.

Absorbing Powers

No Caption Provided

Creel can also absorb properties using his signature ball and chain, so he doesn't need to actually grab something to become it (Thor #436)

Scan 1- Creel can also completely absorb the powers of magical beings like Thor, becoming as powerful as them in a instant. (Journey into Mystery #114)

Scan 2- Thor hits Creel with "the most powerful single hammer blow of all time" but he completely no sells it due to absorbing Thor's stats.

Scan 3- Thor also tries hitting Creel with unrestrained lighting bolts, but Creel no sells them and reflects the energy back to him.

Scan 4- Creel can also bypass the worthyness enchantment of the hammer by absorbing it and can lift it freely, something that is impossible for most individuals.

No Caption Provided

Creel also turns into whatever he is attacked with, not just what he grabs, so stuff like glasses, bullets, are all absorbed (Journey into Mystery #115)

No Caption Provided

Can grow in size by absorbing massive structures of materials, like buildings. (Journey Into Mystery #121)

Scan 1- Creel can take the properties of larger things like islands and continents, but this takes a ton of time. (The Incredible Hulk #261)

Scan 2- If Creel is interrupted or removed from the land that he is absorbing, he can end up stuck within his new form, like when he became a small island after Hulk knocked him off a large one he was absorbing.

Scan 1/2- Absorbs the power of the Quantum Bands, becoming as powerful as a star (Quasar states that the only way to stop him is by hitting him with too much energy too fast, which is pretty telling of how powerful he was considering Quasar usually drains people if he can) (Quasar #5)

Scan 1/2- Absorbs the structure of a entire bunker in seconds. (Incredible Hulk #59)

No Caption Provided

Absorbs the general structure of New York. (Thor- Blood Oath #1)

No Caption Provided

Becomes apart of a comet while floating in space (should be stated here that Creel is pretty much unkillable, no matter what form he is in he always manages to reform after a while) (Incredible Hulk #125)

Scan 1- Creel manages to become the material of Captain America's shield, allowing him to no sell Ms Marvel's punch. (The Avengers #184)

Scan 2- Manages to basically one shot Iron Man with a full on punch, breaking through his suit and hurting him badly.

Scan 1/2- Creel is later able to control people's minds by absorbing them, doing this to multiple people as well as the Hulk. (Incredible Hulk #55)

Scan 3- Controlling Hulk in particular is impressive considering that Hulk is infamously difficult for psychics to use their powers on, while Creel was able to full on control Bruce for a extended period of time, and needed for Bruce to turn back into himself to get him out.

Scan 4/5- Even then, Bruce was trapped within his own mind by Creel, and needed him to let him free to escape drowning. Bruce even states in the fifth scan that Creel let him go on purpose.

Scan 1/2- Dazzler hits Creel with all of her energy, but it does nothing but fuel him into a being of energy. (Dazzler #18)

Scan 3/4- While in this energy form, Creel no sells and stomps Black Bolt, flooring him.

Scan 1/2- Drains a nuclear engine after being hit by it by the Hulk. (Incredible Hulk #125)

No Caption Provided

Drains Hulk's energy so fast that Hulk drops to the ground in the process and Creel beats him down into the mountain. (Incredible Hulk #125)

Scan 1- Gets turned into cocaine and sold.....sigh, not one of Creel's high moments (Marvel Knights Spider-Man #16)

Scan 2- The Creel cocaine gives people his powers for a hour or so, which causes some goofy stuff

Scan 3- Creel later reforms by pulling the pieces of himself together again

Scan 1/2- Drains the Dark Enchantment (a power used by Dormammu to conquer the world) and then starts beating him up, like legit smashes him (S.H.I.E.L.D. #6)

Scan 3- Creel even punches right through him and beats him down on the floor

Scan 1- Manages to absorb the powers of a Cosmic Cube. 2 (The Mighty Avengers #32)

Scan 2- While in this form, he splits Sentry into two halves, bypassing his powers

Scan 3- Even when Hank Pym gets a piece of the Cosmic Cube, Creel still tanks getting directly hit with it and couldn't be stopped until Loki gave Norman Osborn a specific sword which negated Creel's magical powers.

No Caption Provided

Manages to form into water (but large bodies of it like oceans he can't maintain himself) (Captain America #24)

Scan 1/2- Morphs himself into the floor and beats a bunch of thugs up in a rare move of cleverness (Marvel Knights- Spider-Man #14)

Scan 1/2- Takes the power of Black Bolt screaming at him and coverts it into power for himself (Creel was turning himself into a sonic bomb to kill the Jailer, a beast that stomped Black Bolt before) (Black Bolt #6)

No Caption Provided

Takes the powers of Beast and becomes as fast and as powerful as well. (The Avengers #184)

No Caption Provided

Turns into paper. (Daredevil #360)

No Caption Provided

Turns into sausage. (Deadpool V Gambit #3)

No Caption Provided

With the powers of a ship engine, he beats up Ms Marvel and knocks her out easily. (The Avengers #184)

Bannerman Amp

Scan 1/2- Is given a serum that allows him to drain Gamma energy like Red Hulk used to be able to do, hence the red skin. This is also what partly gave Red Hulk the capabilities to stomp a lot of individuals out of his league. (Immortal Hulk #9)

Scan 1/2- Is able to drain so much Gamma energy out of Immortal Hulk that he is left extremely skinny and weakened as a result.

Scan 1/2- Creel ends up getting literally shattered into pieces by Immortal Hulk after Creel had ended up under the spell of The One Below All after the latter had absorbed his essence when he took Immortal Hulk's Gamma energy. As always, he survived this. (Immortal Hulk #10)

Scan 1/2- Creel under the control of TOBA is able to open up The Green Door, a dimensional barrier that keeps the The One Below All within the Below-Place and outside of the rest of the multiverse. (Immortal Hulk #10)

Scan 1/2- Creel absorbs enough background Gamma energy around him to grow to the size of a mountain (Immortal Hulk #36)

No Caption Provided

Creel absorbs the engine of a ship, allowing him to move around as a smaller, compact version of it (Immortal Hulk #31)

Databook Stuff

No Caption Provided

Creel's capabilities and stats (Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe #1)

No Caption Provided

Updated stats and stuff (Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe- Hulk)

Durability

Scan 1- Creel can survive even without a head, or any of his body parts. Should also be stated that Creel can stick any missing parts back into himself. (Incredible Hulk #348)

Scan 2- It took a while, but Creel reformed back into himself again. (Quasar #5)

No Caption Provided

No sells Sif's sword (Thor #206)

No Caption Provided

Scan 2- Creel absorbs a attack that even Odin admits would hurt him.

No Caption Provided

Tanks a blast of Anti Force from Thor. (Thor #27)(

No Caption Provided

Tanks a energy blast from Thor killing Captain Marvel (Captain Marvel #1)

No Caption Provided

Tanks a punch from a non-holding back Luke Cage. (Heroes for Hire #17)

Scan 1/2- While made of Adamantium, he survives getting knocked across a state-line by Virtue, a Skrull who had strength enough to fight off both the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. (Marvel Knights- Spider-Man #14)

Serpent Amp

No Caption Provided

One shots Reptil. (Avengers Academy #18)

No Caption Provided

Smashes up dimensional doors that were used to maintain the Infinite Mansion. (Avengers Academy #17)

Scan 1/2- Beats up Giant Man. (Avengers Academy #16)

Scan 3- Creel is also apparently smarter with the Serpent influencing him, and even gets a enchanted hammer for his trouble.

Scan 4- Pym only manages to survive Creel by BFR'ing (Battle Field Removal) the guy, but sustains enough damage to fall unconscious.

Skill

Scan 1- While depowered, he fights Black Bolt for a bit and lands multiple strikes on him, even breaking his mask keeping him from using his voice. Bolt is a trained martial artist that learned from guys like Karnak, who is literally so skilled that he can find a weakness in anyone he meets almost instantly, this isn't even a super power that's just how good he is (Black Bolt #1)

Scan 2- Creel later admits that he let Bolt win their fight the first time, but it's hard to say if this means that Creel would beat Bolt in a actual fight or if this is just him boasting. (Black Bolt #2)

Speed

No Caption Provided

Is able to move his form throughout continents. Creel doesn't do this often. (Thor #206)

Scan 1/2- Loki later gave Creel a amp which allowed him to fly by basically doing the same as what Thor does with his hammer. This is also not used often. (Quasar #5)

No Caption Provided

Manages to blitz Daredevil after Matt underestimated him. He only managed to survive by rolling with the shot and having high thresholds for pain (Daredevil #360)

No Caption Provided

Scan 1/2- Creel made of Adamantium knocks down the Thing with a sucker punch and beats him down. (Black Panther #12)

No Caption Provided

Creel made of diamond smacks Vision and sends him flying. Vision is not seen again for the rest of the issue, so he seemed to be knocked out by this. (Avengers- Unplugged #4)

No Caption Provided

Creel made of steel smashes through Kid Apocalypse's Celestial Armor. (Avengers & X-Men-AXIS #8)

No Caption Provided

Creel made out of rock beats down Thor. (Thor #14)

Scan 1/2- His wrecking ball manages to overcome Justice's telekinesis. (Avengers Academy #7)

No Caption Provided

In his regular form, Creel casually ragdolls and tosses around normal guys. (Avengers #183)

No Caption Provided

Knocks out Man-Bull in a boxing match (he's about a 50 tonner in strength) (Dark Reign- Lethal Legion #2)

No Caption Provided

Knocks out Thor while at his strength with a sucker punch (tho Thor explains that he wasn't actually knocked out next issue) (Journey into Mystery #121)

No Caption Provided

One shots Sif and Hildegarde while with the strength of iron. (Thor #206)

No Caption Provided

No Caption Provided

Sends Joe Fixit flying. (Incredible Hulk #348)

No Caption Provided

Sends Thor flying with the power of a oak tree. (Thor #207)

No Caption Provided

Swings around and smashes Thor into a window. (Thor #206)

No Caption Provided

Three shots Sentry by draining just enough to knock him out (Sentry wasn't around for the rest of the fight, so this is pretty likely) (Dark Reign- Lethal Legion #2)

No Caption Provided

Throws Hulk around while in his steel form. (Incredible Hulk #209)

No Caption Provided

When Creel was transformed by Loki and given his powers, he was given some extra stuff, so even when human, he's stronger than average (Avengers Annual #20)

Scan 1/2- While made of steel, Creel picks up a entire airplane off the ground. (Amazing Spider-Man #283)

Scan 1/2- Absorbs Thor's Hammer, and actually shatters the ribcage of Thor with a single direct blow from his wrecking ball chain.

Scan 3- Throws Thor into a shop, Thor apparently flew as fiercely as a juggernaut and busted everything in the process.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Creel is a brick with almost unlimited potential. He can scrap with high tiers, and even individuals far above his standard using his powers. The only thing that stops him is his intelligence: he's a common thug, not educated in the slightest, and easily manipulated or fooled. This is how he is defeated most of the time, because the individuals who fight him can't physically overcome his powers, and thus need to mentally overcome him.

This is also why he's so dangerous- Creel in a alternative universe actually ended up absorbing the intellect of Ultron by accident, and in doing so, was able to kill all of the Avengers apart from Vision, who's phasing saved him from Creel. This kinda shows that, if Creel ever got a clue, he could potentially be a world ender.

Yeah, Creel used to be a level 1 team busting threat in his day. Over time though, like other characters, I feel like he has sort of fell be the wayside and started falling into henchman territory.

Cool thread, btw.

@cattlebattle: Thanks for the compliment.

And yeah, Creel's inconsistent nature of being a decent teambuster to failing to beat Captain America is annoying, but unlike many characters I've covered before, I think Creel's still getting great feats, considering the Immortal Hulk stuff and beating up Dormammu of all people happened pretty recently. Granted, he's still not consistently at his peak anymore, but I don't think that'll ever be the case.

Nice respect thread. Absorbing Man could easily be a Magneto level threat if he wasn't such an idiot.

@andromeda101: Nah watching Dormammu get beat up by a thug who couldn't beat Captain America in the past is....quite fun, shows how wide his power level goes from.

@professorrespect: Speaking of which, have you never thought doing an RT about the Wrecking Crew? Or at least individual members?

Good question. Personally, I find the RT's on them already to be very much lacking, through I don't find them very interesting myself. I might do them in the future, but for now, they aren't coming any time soon.

Also, might do D'Spayre. Depends how much I care about him though.

To be fair, Creel being random with his wins and silly losses is sensible though, seeing as his powers and abilities are random considering what he absorbs. He also isn't very bright and sometimes the properties of what he absorbs have weaknesses he isn't aware of and gets exploited.

I just find him to be one of those characters that was pretty respectable and dangerous at a time, but over the years through appearances in alternate media or alternate realities, his character has sort of been played down over the years. Characters like Blob Bane, and Shocker also fall into this category.

@cattlebattle: I guess that's understandable. A lot of classic characters get downplayed or nerfed later on, unless they don't appear as much, like Kurse or Atum.

Thor killing Captain Marvel

Smh.

Good RT as always btw. The only thing that you might've missed was that Thor was weakened at the time when Creel cracked his ribs.

You also could've included him absorbing Eric Thor's lightning.
