Poll Rate The Movie: The Avengers (128 votes)
Alright. So I am thinking of creating a ranked list of all the major comic book movies that has been released. Each vote will count and contribute to the final score.

hasn't aged well and still overrated, 5
You didn't vote?
@rbt: just did
OP you haven't told us what score you gave it. :P
I gave it a 6.
It's about a 7, it is definitely overrated. But one of the reasons it's overrated is not for its quality, but for what they accomplished when they shouldn't have. That movie had disaster written all over it. "So we've made a WWII Spielbergian adventure film, a Shakespearean space fantasy, and a tech-heavy science fiction movie that had zero supernatural elements.... let's force them all into a 2 hour script, spend everything we have on this even though if it fails Disney just bought a dud studio, and finally hire a dude to make it who's only made 1 movie. Ever. A movie based on a low budget TV show."
And for that I give it an 8.
8-9... i gave it 9 just because it revolutionized superhero movies and it achieved something that had never been done before.
7. Fun film. I stil disagree about the "accomplishment" of it, which I think is nothing special at all. That said, I had a good time at the movie and isn't that why we go to movies?? It didn't have anything that made me go "wow." But it did have things that made me smile.
Film was good but the chitauri were jokes I'd give it a 7 weak fight scenes and how tf did Loki know about the Hulk and everyone
8 on first and 6 on rewatch, voted 8 anyways as whether it's a such great movie or not I'll have to give credit for being sort of a column for the CBM scene.
My number 1 movie in the list of 46 CBM's.
I'm sure you've seen way more, just Marvel+DC is at about 75, not counting all the off-brand ones.
I just counted from 2000 on up (Xmen on up). The older movies have completely different style of movie making.
9.5 one of the greatest comic book movies ever, also influenced other companies to start shared universes.
It is 10/10 cinema. A truly momentous film that doesn't get the credit it deserves because it's "just a dumb comic book movie."
7. I won't deny the influence it had, but as a standalone movie, it was pretty average.
This.
8. Certain aspects irritate me but I can't deny it's the kind of movie that is greater than the sum of its parts.

I agree. I can't help but shake my head every time someone calls The Avengers an "average popcorn flick" that is only good because of novelty factor. If there exists a world where the average blockbuster quality is Avengers, then please take me to that world, lol. This video does a great job explaining why Avengers is such a classic:
A lot of "haters" (for a lack of better terms) say that this movie was only well received because it brought together the Avengers for the first time, but if anything, that gave the movie MORE to lose if it was bad. As someone already mentioned, Joss Whedon had the task of uniting multiple films of different subgenre's and different characters with entirely different personalities, powersets, and different time periods and make it work. The fact it wasn't a total disaster in itself is a wonder. The fact it is a genuinely coherent, enjoyable, well-written, well-structured movie is nothing short of a miracle! The only CBM that holds a candle to it is The The Dark Knight.
