Today's Rate the Comic Book Artist Segment features Alex Ross, an American Comic Book Artist. Renowned for his photo-realistic style, Alex Ross's depiction of realistic comic book art has revolutionized the comic book industry and newsstand origins of his profession. His style of art has been heavily influenced by the works of George Perez, Norman Rockwell, and Andrew Loomis. His rendering style, his attention to detail, and the perceived tendency of his characters to be depicted staring off into the distance in cover images have been satirized in various media.
His first line of work as a professional artist was Ron Frontier's Terminator: The Burning Earth from NOW Comics but his breakthrough success was Kurt Busiek's Marvels thereafter Mark Waid's Kingdom Come. From there he has collaborated with Jim Krueger and Kurt Busiek in co-creating and penciling several comics such as Jim Krueger's Earth X, Paradise X, and Justice as well as Kurt Busiek's Kirby: Genesis and Astro City. He is also known for his works in Paul Dini's The World's Greatest Superheroes.
