Rate Goku as a character

10/10.

I don't like Goku. Typical shounen stuff. Most people only like him for his strength and incessant screaming..

8/10. Good characterization, great moments, serves his series extremely well. Lack of on-screen character development (he has it, it just happens during time skips) holds him back.

I give him a 10 great character.

6/10. He's your typical shounen protagonist, even tho there's some charm behind him

He would work FAR better as a secondary character.. I rate him as the main protagonist, which is a 3/10..

As a side character he would be 8/10 and as a 1 off character he would be 10/10

Depends on what Goku we're talking.

Dragon Ball Goku = 9/10

Dragon Ball Z/Super Goku = 5/10

Solid 9. The only reason why he isn't a 10 is because he isn't a deeply in-depth character.

10/10 and any other answer is just PLAIN WRONG. The man is the anime/manga genre.

@meandyourgirl69: Throughout Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z we saw Goku grow from a boy to a man. And even into a father.

In Z you could see that he cared for his family, he loved Earth, he loved his friends and he won't put ANY of them in harm's way (on purpose).

And at the end of the Cell Saga he had matured as a human being, he was able to realise the mistake he made and he was ready to make the sacrifice if it meant protecting everyone. Even beyond the grave he gave his son words of encouragement to win the fight. And when he was in the Otherworld he chose to stay there because he didn't want more evil to come to Earth and hurt his family or friends.

And at the end of the Buu Saga, the anime added that moment with Goku saying he is back to life and he isn't going anywhere just for that touching moment were he tells Chi-Chi he loves her.

But Super turned him into someone who barely shows any affection for his family, and would rather train than stay with his wife when she is pregnant. And the second to last chapter of the dbs manga basically said none of his character development happened and he is still the same Goku we started the franchise with. :/

But this is just my point of view

@gokukid2005: Goku has always chosen training over his family and he's old enough to be a grandad in super, he can't really grow any more than he already has

6/10. Goku is the trend setter that gave birth to what is now the typical shounen protagonist, so I won't criticise him for it.

It's hard to properly rate him without showing bias, because at it's core he's not really that special, but I'm gonna give him a 7. It's mostly the design of his character (I personally have a thing for long haired anime characters), but it's also because I just kinda find him cool and the fact that alot of the best fight scenes in Dragon Ball are from him.

He's a Saiyan from earth, and always wants to reach new heights to become stronger, while at the same time doing what's best for the people around him, despite being incredibly simple and straight-forward. That's fine for me.

Without bias or nostalgia in the way overall Goku is just abit above average.

Depend on which Goku, which saying that is one of the problem with any character that has a long run. For example, Goku in the english dub is less selfish and more heroic compare to the original version, and the Goku in Super was just terrible imo.

Ignoring Super, I say an 8.

8/10, I like him, I just hate how Toriyama has basically spent all these years treating him like a God who gets all the screentime and all these cool transformations while more interesting characters like Videl, Yamcha, Tien, Krillin and 18 have been basically thrown to the wayside.
