Respect Qui-Gon Jinn:

"A true Knight, Qui-Gon is. Forever on his own quest."

Power & Mastery

Qui-Gon is a legendary Jedi Master:

He'd said farewell to his former Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn, now a legendary Master in his own right; he'd said farewell to his close friends on the Jedi Council, Mace Windu and the ancient Master Yoda; he'd said farewell to the Jedi Order itself.

Qui-Gon possesses a perfect mastery of the Force:

He was outmatched and he knew it. He did not have Qui-Gon's perfect mastery of the Force.

Source: Jedi Apprentice: The Dangerous Rescue

Mace Windu admits that Qui-Gon's mastery of the Force is sufficient to land him a seat on the Jedi Council, and Obi-Wan further opines that Qui-Gon is worthy of sitting on the Council save for his headstrong nature:

"I know that some of you have discussed Master Qui-Gon Jinn as a possible candidate. But I would counsel caution. Despite his mastery of the Force, he is headstrong and willful."

Source: Jedi Council: Acts of War 4

"Master, you could be sitting on the Council by now if you would just follow the code. You deserve to be sitting on the Council." Obi-Wan's frustration surfaced in a burst of momentary anger. His eyes sought the other's and held them. "They will not go along with you this time."

This is notable as one must be one of the most skilled Jedi in the Order to become a member of the High Council:

If you prove yourself to be among the most skilled and wise Jedi, then you may be given the highest honour — a seat on the Jedi High Council.

The strength of Qui-Gon Jinn is sufficient enough to meet Darth Maul's strength, to the point where Maul literally feels Qui-Gon's blows shudder throughout his body:

I accelerate my pace, calling on my anger to increase my power. My footwork has never been so brilliant. I use the shifting sand as resistance. My lightness and quickness will defeat this man, with his large body, his heavy movements. But he is graceful, this Jedi. The sand doesn't seem to hamper him. He is never off balance, no matter where or how I strike. Our blows send shudders through my body. He meets my strength. Our lightsabers clash and sizzle. Dust and sand rise around us. I never lose my rhythm.

Qui-Gon maintains pace with a Kudana as he outpaces Obi-Wan Kenobi:

The kudana rose out of the mist, the noise of their hooves like thunder. They were beautiful animals, their bronze metallic skins highly prized throughout the galaxy. Their eyes rolled in fright, and they made a high- pitched sound that was close to screaming. Obi-Wan could smell their panic, but he was more concerned about their sharp hooves and powerful legs.

The seeker droid hovered ahead, a laser beaming down toward Qui-Gon. No doubt it was sending back coordinates of their location.

"Ready, Obi-Wan?" Qui-Gon shouted over the noise. "Pick a kudana and run alongside it. Use the Force to reach out and connect. Then, if you can, ride one." Obi-Wan began to run. Qui-Gon ran ahead of him, matching the animals' speed. He reached out to touch the nearest animal's flank, racing alongside it. Obi-Wan knew his Master was calling on the Force. With a gigantic leap, Qui-Gon landed on the animal's back.

Qui-Gon moves his lightsaber faster than the eye can follow:

Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Ki-Adi-Mundi stood with their backs pressed to one another, deflecting a hail of blaster bolts the terrorists poured into the plaza. The blades of their lightsabers - comgreen, blue, and purple--moved faster than the eye could follow, blazing bright as novas as they sent the bolts caroming from the ancient stone walls and ricocheting off the sloping faces of the pyramids.

Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Tiin and Ki-Adi Mundi forge a barrier out of their blades:

Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Tiin, and Ki-Adi-Mundi surged from the pyramid entrance, engaging the terrorists that had driven them back. A quarter of the way across the immense plaza, the Jedi spread out in a wedge formation, their constantly moving blades fending off blaster bolts loosed from ahead and to either side. Behind the energy barrier fashioned by the lightsabers, Yaddle, Depa, Vergere, and two of the judicials raced out to divert fire from the rear.

Durability & Stamina

Qui-Gon meets Xanatos in midair in a titanic clash which releases bone-shuddering shock waves, but Qui-Gon does not relent:

He hit Xanatos in midair. Their bodies connected like mountains of hard rock. There was no give to Xanatos' muscles, no yielding in Qui-Gon. The clash was titanic. Qui-Gon felt the shock of it move through his bones. For a moment, Xanatos gripped Qui-Gon's arm, forcing them to remain entangled.

Qui-Gon uses a Mind Trick on a Hutt, which is impressive considering Hutts are resistant to typical telepathic intrusion:

It was time to pay a visit to Offworld Headquarters. Offworld did not try to beautify their Bandomeer office. The building, a black, windowless block, echoed the grim mines that surrounded it. Qui-Gon entered the center hall with its azurite-studded walls. The mineral was its only decoration. A Hutt security guard sat behind a black cube that served as a desk. His body rolled past the confines of the desk. He turned flat, dead eyes toward Qui-Gon.

"I have come to see Xanatos," Qui-Gon said.

"Move, wretch," the Hutt replied, bored. "Take your petty complaints to you immediate supervisor. There's no one here anyway. Xanatos is on an exploration trip to the northern mine quadrant."

The Hutt reached for a blaster. So much for corporate hospitality. Qui-Gon didn't move a muscle. He concentrated on the Hutt's greasy mind, pulling in energy from the Force.

"Perhaps I should wait in his private office," he said.

"You should wait in his private office." The Hutt repeated tonelessly. "Take the restricted tube to Horizontal Thirty."

"Security controls should be lifted," Qui-Gon said.

"All security controls shall be lifted.''

Qui-Gon uses a Mind Trick on Boss Nass, convincing him to provide transport to Theed:

Before Obi-Wan could continue his argument, Qui-Gon stepped forward. "Then speed us on our way," he demanded, bringing up one hand in a casual motion, passing it smoothly before the Gungan chief's eyes in a quick invocation of Jedi mind power.

Boss Nass stared at him, then nodded. "We speed yous far away."

Qui-Gon held his gaze. "We need transport to Theed."

"Okeday." Boss Nass nodded some more. "We give yous bongo. Da speedest way tada Naboo is goen through da core. Yous go now."

Qui-Gon stepped back. "Thank you for your help. We go in peace."

Talk was getting them nowhere. And if we don't reach the capital soon, the Trade Federation's droids will have taken over. Qui-Gon gestured, reaching out to touch the Gungan's mind. "Then speed us on our way," he said.

"Wesa oanna speed yousaway," the Gungan Boss said, responding readily to Qui-Gon's suggestion. "Wese give yousa una bongo. Da speedest way tooda Naboo tis goen through da core. Now go."

Beast Control & Beast Language

Qui-Gon uses Beast Control to ride a Draigon, also utilizing Beast Language to communicate with it:

Long had Qui-Gon followed the ways of the Force. Now he felt it beckon him. Run, it commanded. Go to Obi-Wan. Qui-Gon’s heart pounded. He ran three steps and leaped from the mouth of the cave, knowing that two hundred meters below, the sharp rocks stuck up like swords. Yet he trusted the Force. He did not fall even a dozen meters. His leap carried him straight to a draigon! He hit the beast’s neck with a thud. The creature was wet and slimy. Qui-Gon almost slipped off, but clung to its scaly hide with the tips of his fingers. The sore muscles in his shoulder throbbed and burned. He managed to swing his legs up and over, so that he was riding squarely on the draigon’s back. The creature roared in terror. It had been flying up to eat the Jedi. Now it shook its neck, trying to throw him off. It shrieked again and again, then wheeled in panic and flapped its wings, dropping toward the sea. Qui-Gon clutched his precious bag of dactyl in one hand and leaned close to the draigon’s neck. Using all og the power that he could muster, he whispered to the draigon.. “Friend help me. Take me to the caves. Hurry!”

The draigons that were hunting Whiphids heard the desperate shriek of Qui-Gon’s mount. They looked up and saw the man on its back. Now the draigons rose in a flock to give chase. His mount flapped its wings and sped toward the caves. Qui-Gon wasn’t sure he could control the beast for long, for its small mind was cruel, and it was driven by ravenous hunger.

Combat Skill

Qui-Gon is one of the Order's most formidable members:

Qui-Gon was regarded as one of the best swordsmen ever produced by the Order:

Jinn was generally regarded as one of the best pure swordsmen the Order had ever seen.

Qui-Gon, as a superior duelist to Anoon Bondara, who is regarded by many as having unmatched lightsaber prowess. Jinn has outsparred and humbled Bondara before, with some of their sparring matches being noted to be brief:

Renowned for his skill with the lightsaber, Jedi Master Anoon Bondara is regarded by many of his peers and all of his apprentices as a role model whose combat prowess is unmatched in the Jedi Order. Bondara would disagree with this assesment. During his tenure at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, he spars with superior lightsaber duelists such as Qui-Gon Jinn and Mace Windu. Although he humbles himself when compared to their skill, Bondara's prowess is nontheless considerable.

Source: Jedi Academy: Training Manual

A Twi'lek, with slender head-tails and a heavily muscled upper body, his name was Anoon Bondara, a duelist of unparalleled skill. Qui-Gon engaged him in matches at every opportunity. For a match with Bondara, no matter how brief, was more instructive than twenty contests against lesser opponents.

Source: Cloak of Deception

Qui-Gon is a better duelist than Obi-Wan Kenobi:

They had fought together before, and they knew each other's moves. Qui-Gon had trained Obi-Wan, and while the younger Jedi was not yet his equal, he believed that one day Obi-Wan would be better than he had ever been.

Source: The Phantom Menace

Qui-Gon is one of the most able swordsmen in the Jedi Order, having fought in conflicts across the galaxy in which many others would not have stood a chance. Qui-Gon's master claims that Qui-Gon was one of the best Jedi he had ever trained in over four hundred years (Qui-Gon's master was retconned to Dooku after The Phantom Menace):

Qui-Gon Jinn was one of the most able swordsmen in the Jedi order. The Jedi Master he had trained under had considered him one of the best the Master had taught in his more than four hundred years in the order. Qui-Gon had fought in conflicts all across the galaxy in the span of his life and against odds so great that many others would not have stood a chance.

Qui-Gon wins all his matches on Exhibition Day, ultimately defeating Tahl:

It was called Exhibition Day, and they had performed exercises while the Jedi Masters watched. Force exercises, balance, endurance, climbing, jumping, swimming. Sometimes they split into teams of two or four. It was play, but it was also serious.

The last exercise was a series of training lightsaber matches. Some were done blindfolded. Some pitted one student against two attackers. Qui-Gon won all his matches. It came down to him and Clee Rhara and Tahl. Then Tahl beat Clee Rhara.

"Guess that leaves us," she whispered as she bowed to him at the start of the final match. "Don't worry. I'll go easy on you." They had been matched many times before. He knew how fast she was. She knew how strong he was. Knowing each other's strengths made the match more interesting. Qui-Gon found fighting Tahl to be both exhausting and exhilarating. It brought out his best skills.

They whirled around the space, using every inch of wall and floor. All the Jedi students admired Tahl's gymnastic abilities. She could run up a wall, twist, and come at you with a sweeping backhand twist that left you dizzy. Tahl fought hard. Qui-Gon admired how just when he thought she was tiring, she would find fresh strength. He could not match her agility, but he was able to surprise her with strategy. He saw her eyes flash with astonishment and her teeth grit in determination as she parried his blows and came at him with a series of twists and reversals.

The match was not timed. It would only end when one of them scored a blow. Exhaustion began to slow their moves, but they did not stop or make mistakes. He could hear the murmur among the spectators, wondering how long the two students could continue. He sensed more Jedi Masters arriving.

Tahl's face was a mask. She had gone deep within herself, past her exhaustion to a place of sheer will. Qui-Gon had never felt so tired. His arm muscles shook. His legs felt watery. They trembled. Still he did not stop or make a mistake.

Then Tahl's foot slipped. Just a fraction, but it was enough. The floor was wet with their sweat. She left herself vulnerable for one split second, and he moved forward, kicking out with one foot and driving the lightsaber from her grasp. At the same time he brought his own lightsaber close to her. He did not touch her with it. He was not willing to give her even the slightest sting from the training saber.

"Match to Qui-Gon," one of the Jedi Masters spoke. Qui-Gon and Tahl bowed to each other. Then they collapsed together on a bench nearby. "A good match," he said, panting.

"It would have been better if I'd won." He shook his head.

Source: Jedi Apprentice: The Death of Hope

Qui-Gon holds the advantage against his former apprentice Xanatos, noticing the latter's weak footwork and exploiting it to drive Xanatos to desperation:

Qui-Gon ducked as a viewscreen followed, smashing as it hit the wall behind his head. He sprang forward, descending on Xanatos with a lightning-fast series of lunges.

"Your age is slowing you down, Qui-Gon," Xanatos panted. "Five years ago you would have dispatched me inside the security chamber. Now I am faster than you."

"No," Qui-Gon said as their lightsabers clashed. "You just talk more."

He circled Xanatos, looking for an opening. Xanatos kept moving, keeping the Council chairs between them. Using the Force, Xanatos caused one to slide away and smash against the wall. Then he pounced. Their battle assumed a new ferocity. Again and again their lightsabers tangled as each tried to gain the advantage.

"Your footwork betrays you," Qui-Gon answered, pressing his advantage with a slashing blow. "You don't realize how you let me know your next move. Notice how your body is leaning just slightly. You're placing more weight on the ball of your left foot. You're going to move left." Xanatos shifted his balance, and Qui-Gon, already anticipating his reaction, drove forward. Xanatos nearly dropped his lightsaber as he slammed against the wall.

Ready to push his advantage, Qui-Gon leaped after him. But Xanatos switched hands again, parrying Qui-Gon's blow as he leaped across the room. He landed on a table close to the window. Gripping his lightsaber, he cut a hole in the window that overlooked the tall towers of Coruscant.

The window peeled back. Keeping his eyes on Qui-Gon, Xanatos smiled.

"You will never defeat me, Qui-Gon Jinn. That is your curse."

Still Qui-Gon adapted his style to fit the area. He used short jabs, sometimes falling on one knee to come at Xanatos from below. He felt the Force swirl around him, strong and sure, aiding his instincts, telling him where Xanatos would move next and how. He blocked each blow and came back stronger. He sensed that Xanatos was on the edge of desperation, though his former apprentice would never let him see it.

"Haven't you forgotten something, Qui-Gon?" Xanatos called to him over the screaming wind.

"The last part of that takeover equation. Devastation."

"You must be tiring, Xanatos," Qui-Gon said. "That's when you begin your taunts." He gritted his teeth as he slammed a blow toward Xanatos' shoulder. Qui-Gon hesitated, his lightsaber held in attack position. He knew he could defeat Xanatos. But how long would it take? In that split second, Xanatos glanced below. An air taxi flew twenty meters underneath the ledge. Qui-Gon sprang forward, but Xanatos stepped off the ledge. He landed on the air taxi. Qui-Gon saw the surprised driver's look of panic as Xanatos calmly lifted him out of the seat and pushed him out into midair.

Qui-Gon had less than a second to decide. He could make the jump. He could land on the taxi. He could grapple with Xanatos. He could end this once and for all.

After running from Mos Eisley to his ship, Qui-Gon is ambushed by a slightly injured Darth Maul, leaving the two to duel ferociously in the desert. Maul recalls musing that the Force favored his opponent because Qui-Gon was able to match Maul's attacks and tell Anakin to run to the ship, whereas Maul had forgotten about him. Maul also muses that he had never been as committed to a challenge before (barring his fight with Sidious), and then goes on to muse Qui-Gon does not appear to be hampered by the sand and maintains his balance regardless of where or how Maul attacks:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMylmOlot4g

Regardless, Qui-Gon had quieted his mind and brought his imposing might to bear against Maul’s agility. He had matched Maul’s furious strokes with a disciplined intensity all his own. In the midst of their no-quarter contest the Jedi had even managed to order the slave boy to flee for the safety of the waiting ship, where Maul had nearly forgotten all about him.

The Force favors this Jedi! Maul recalled thinking.

After all the droids, assassins, gangsters, and soldiers he had vanquished, finally a worthy opponent. Not since he had fought and been defeated by his own Master, Darth Sidious, had Maul been so committed to a challenge.

But he is graceful, this Jedi. The sand doesn't see to hamper him. He is never off balance, no matter where or how I strike.

Maul is surprised by Qui-Gon's ability to repel his surprise attack:

The Jedi meets my first blow, blocking it. He has expected my flying maneuver.

If an opponent can read you, the fight is over. I don't like that the Jedi was perfectly prepared for my first blow. Within seconds, I throw away my usual combinations and strategies. This Jedi seems to know how I will move before I do.

Qui-Gon’s shrewd readiness had almost taken Maul off his guard.

Source: End Game

Maul and Qui-Gon duel evenly for most of the fight, driving each other back and forth. By the duel's conclusion, the fight has only begun to tip in Maul's favor, and only due to Qui-Gon's flagging stamina, suggesting that his combat skill was a match for Maul's:

"There," the Jedi breathed, pointing. They could see Qui-Gon Jinn now, engaged in battle with the dark-garbed, demonic figure. The combatants surged back and forth across the flats, lightsabers flashing brightly with each blow struck, sand and grit swirling in all directions.

Then, just when Qui-Gon’s stamina was beginning to flag and the fight was tipping in Maul’s favor, the incomprehensible had occurred: Qui-Gon had fled.

Solely by redirecting blaster fire with their lightsabers, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan destroy more droids than the entirety of Queen Amidala's forces:

Battle droids and tanks headed for the far side of the plaza, leaving the door to the main hangar clear. Amidala and her forces ran into the hangar and began firing at the battle droids inside. True to their orders, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon did not attack the droids directly. They used their lightsabers only to deflect laser bolts that were aimed at Queen Amidala. But, Amidala noticed, every shot they deflected bounced back and hit a battle droid. The two Jedi were destroying more droids than all the rest of her people put together.

With Obi-Wan's assistance, and later by himself, Qui-Gon holds his own against Darth Maul for a considerable amount of time. Again, it is said that Qui-Gon lost due to being unable to match Maul physically, suggesting that his skill matches Maul's:

Personally, I believe that if on Naboo Jinn was younger and already had some good experience about duels with Sith he could survive his fight there any maybe even win. At last he was one from the best swordsmen in the Order.

@penderor: I'm unsure if that would have played much of a part. Qui-Gon was still driven off by an injured Maul on Tatooine, and it's heavily implied that if Jinn remained there fighting, he would have been killed in short order.

@shootingnova: Very nice job man.

You know the youtuber Jenasaraii or whatever, who does the Versus videos? Did you know in all of his videos with Qui Gon, he posts the scan of Qui Gon hurling Feemor and then crops out Qui Gons saber, saying "Qui Gon needs to deactivate his lightsaber in order to perform such telekinetic feats". He just lost any credibility he previously had for blatantly editing source material to make Qui Gon look like he was weaker in TK than he actually is.

@penderor: I wasn't making a comparison to this site. I was just saying that he deliberately cropped out a piece of source material in his video, giving out misinformation. Either that or he was just posting cropped pictures he knew nothing about. Credibility = Lost.

BTW Really nice job on this thread.

@penderor: Maybe. But probably still only a stalemate at best.

Very nice job man.

1. Thanks.

2. I've seen a few of his videos. He said Vader beats Yoda, that Malgus is faster and more powerful a telekinetic than Dooku (and gets the win in both sabers and the Force), etc. A number of his versus series are just innate mismatches. I wouldn't put too much stock on Youtube. Far too many people who have no idea what they are talking about. Honestly, most of them that I've seen in the comments just play KotOR and then think they know everything about the EU.

There was another guy who said Maul would be helpless against Satele's telekinetics.

Did you ever have any luck finding that off-panel stalemate of Qui-gon against Windu?

I doubt that even exists.

Yeah, that was Jensaraii aswell, I think.. basically just discarded anything post-TPM and used the most mundane generalizations of Maul ever like "he's incredibly arrogant and regularly makes stupid decisions because of it" and "he's trained as an assassin and is great in lightsaber duels, but doesn't know much about the force".. the guy must draw his conclusions from google image searches and Wookiepedia.

Nice to see someone made a respect thread for Qui-Gon. Good work.

Let me contribute a little.

First from his padawan days, Count Dooku was his jedi master.

Dooku had learned much from Thame Cerulian. Now he was a Master with an apprentice. Qui-Gon Jinn had been the most promising of the

Padawans, and Dooku had maneuvered to get him the first time he saw him in lightsaber training, at ten years old. Dooku knew that a Master would be judged by the prowess of his Padawan, and he wanted the best of the best.

Source : Legacy of the Jedi

Dooku took Qui-Gon as a padawan at ten years old, he saw Qui-Gon's potential in lightsaber training.

Dooku and Qui-Gon raced down the halls of the ship. When they arrived at the docking bay, the pirate ship had already landed. War droids were rolling down the ramp. It took less than a second for the droids to pinpoint their targets. Blaster fire tore up the ground in front of them and they heard it ping off the walls of the docking bay. Dooku admired how Qui-Gon did not flinch or hesitate, but kept moving in the same fluid, graceful manner. Qui-Gon had so little of the awkwardness of adolescence. He moved swiftly and easily, his arm swinging with the motion of his lightsaber as he parried the blaster fire.

Source : Legacy of the Jedi

In their mission, despite the fact Qui-Gon was young, he stopped Dooku for using his rage many time.

Dooku felt the rush of the Force as it warned him. He reached for his lightsaber. Qui-Gon was only a fraction of a second behind him.

Colicoid Eradicator droids wheeled around a corner and headed for them, blasters at the ready. Dooku held his lightsaber aloft.

"Master." Qui-Gon's voice was urgent. "We can't fight them. Look around."

Dooku surveyed the area around them. Child workers were everywhere

here, no doubt because their smaller fingers were useful for work on sensors. If the Jedi engaged the Eradicators in battle, the blaster fire would spray the workers. They would have nowhere to hide. Still, Dooku did not drop his lightsaber. He had no doubt that Lorian had arranged this. He knew that Jedi would not fight if it meant endangering innocent lives - especially children's lives. He would force Dooku to surrender. But he would never surrender to Lorian!

"Master." There was steel in Qui-Gon's voice. His lightsaber was already

deactivated and at his side. Dooku deactivated his lightsaber. He felt helpless rage take him over as the droids took them into custody. In his heart, he vowed revenge.

" Master. Stop."

Qui-Gon did not shout this time. Yet his tone penetrated Dooku's

concentration better than his cry had. Dooku looked over. Bound and helpless, Qui-Gon looked back. That gaze. Dooku almost groaned aloud. He saw integrity and truth there,

and he could not hide from it. He saw himself through Qui-Gon's eyes, and he could not do it. His Padawan had revealed to him what he should have known already. He could not go down this road. He deactivated his lightsaber. Lorian took a deep, shuddering breath.

"It's over," Dooku said.

Source : Legacy of the Jedi

Lorian (a failed padawan of the order, space pirate) sees the similarity between Dooku and Qui-Gon.

"I was young and made a mistake." Lorian's face hardened. "I paid dearly for it. Was I supposed to turn into a farmer? I was trained as a Jedi! So instead I went into business for myself."

"As a space pirate."

"Just temporarily. I started out kidnapping criminals, but that got risky. You'd

be surprised how reluctant gangs can be to come up with the ransom. So I looked to Senators next. The only problem was, they had the best security.

But what if their security wasn't as good as they thought it was? When I heard Kontag was sliding into bankruptcy, it gave me the idea. So I bought this factory and offered Kontag a deal."

"A factory that employs children." Qui-Gon's voice was flat. His gaze told

Lorian that he held him in contempt. Lorian strolled toward Qui-Gon, his face alight with curiosity. "So this is your apprentice, Dooku? Qui-Gon Jinn? Yes, I can see you in him.

Source : Legacy of the Jedi

Dooku lectures Qui-Gon about living force.

Dooku was silent for the entire length of the long hallway.

"You have been an excellent Padawan, Qui-Gon," he said at last. "I could

not ask for a better one. I will tell the Council this as you face the trials. But

I will not tell them this: You have a flaw. This in itself is not a bad thing.

Each of us has one. It is bad when we don't see it. Yet what is far worse is

to see your flaw and to think it is not a flaw at all. " Dooku stopped.

"Perhaps it is my fault that I was never able to teach you my most

important lesson."

Qui-Gon looked at his Master. The long, elegant nose, the dark hooded

eyes, the pale skin. It was a face he knew intimately, but he also knew, and

had known for some time, that it was a face he did not love. At first this had

bothered him - until he realized he did not need to love his Master, merely

learn from him. He was grateful to have a Master so strong in the Force.

He had learned much.

"Your flaw is your need for connection to the living Force. Qui-Gon, the

galaxy is crowded with beings. The Jedi Order is here to support you.

Nevertheless you must carry the following knowledge in your heart,"

Dooku said. "You are always alone, and betrayal is inevitable."

After this, Xanatos (who had high force potential and padawan of Qui-Gon) turns to the dark side, their first encounter ;

Praise for Xanatos'

Qui-Gon was sure Xanatos was ready. He had spent years with the boy, watching him become a man. His mastery of the lightsaber was unsurpassed in his class. His ability to focus on the Force matched his Master's. He passed the preliminary tests with a near-perfect score. Qui-Gon was ready to welcome

him as a Jedi Knight. It was a proud moment.

Their second encounter, Dark Jedi Xanatos growns powerful

In a flash, Qui-Gon's lightsaber hummed to life. When Xanatos leaped to deliver his first blow, Qui-Gon was already moving to deflect it. The sabers met and sizzled. Qui-Gon felt the power of Xanatos' stroke move up his arm. Xanatos had not lost his fighting edge. He had only grown more powerful,

moving with economy and grace. His lightsaber flashed, he thrust again,

always with a surprising twist or direction. Qui-Gon moved defensively. He knew he would not be able to tire Xanatos, one method of Jedi strategy.

Xanatos had more than physical skill. Qui-Gon could feel the power of his mind. Xanatos was till in touch with the Force. He had gathered the energy of darkness, not light.

Their duels seems stalemate or more likely Qui-Gon for the edge...

"You destroyed everything I loved," Xanatos accused, his lightsaber barely missing Qui-Gon's shoulder, so close it singed the fabric of his tunic. "You destroyed me that day, Qui-Gon. Yet I was reborn. Stronger, wiser. I have surpassed you."

Their lightsabers tangled, buzzing furiously. Qui-Gon felt the charge in his arm, but didn't waver. Xanatos kicked out with a foot, but qui-Gon was expecting it, and moved aside. Xanatos lost his balance. He almost fell, but recovered in time.

"Your footwork has always been your weakness," Qui-Gon said dryly as he dealt a blow to Xanatos' shoulder. Xanatos twisted away, but not before Qui-Gon saw him grimace with pain. "If you've surpassed me, it's only in your mind."

Perhaps it was the taunt. Perhaps it was because Qui-Gon had finally caused him real pain. Xanatos whirled the other side of his cape behind his shoulder. A second lightsaber was suddenly in his hand. Xanatos faked a charge to the left, went right, then danced back to the left again. Qui-Gon remembered the move from the Temple. He easily blocked the blow.

He was fighting the past. His past. Perhaps he could defeat Xanatos, but the battle would not be won. Only the future mattered now.

Then Xanatos uses a landspeeder for an attack ;

He wheeled the landspeeder sharply, turning to the right as another blast whistled past them. Lightsabers were useless. They had no blasters. They had to rely on Qui-Gon's skill. Even as he drove, he gathered the Force around him, using it to anticipate the blasts. Dirt and gravel flew in their faces as Qui-Gon swerved, dived, reversed, and hung stationary, all to evade the deadly laser cannon. On a speeder bike, Xanatos had greater maneuverability, and he used it to dodge suddenly around them, firing from the left. The jolt nearly sent Obi-Wan flying out. "Hang on!" Qui-Gon called. He sped ahead, as low to the ground as he dared. He kicked up the dust underneath him, which blew behind them in a thick cloud, blinding Xanatos.

Qui-Gon using force for dueling in the darkness, and Xanatos stated as fastest fighter Obi-Wan ever met.

Qui-Gon didn't wait for Xanatos to strike. He moved through the blackness toward the glow. He could not see, he let the Force guide him.

He could feel his opponent, feel the dark tremors of his evil. He struck. "Missed me," Xanatos said. "I was always best at the blindfold test. Remember?" It was hard fighting now, driven by instinct and with only the Force to help them. Xanatos was a cunning, powerful adversary. He attacked and retreated in a furious rhythm, faster than any fighter Obi-Wan had met.

Third duel,

Again

and again their lightsabers tangled as each tried to gain the advantage.

He used short jabs,

sometimes falling on one knee to come at Xanatos from below. He felt the Force swirl around him, strong and sure, aiding his instincts, telling him where Xanatos would move next and how. He blocked each blow and came back stronger. He sensed that Xanatos was on the edge of desperation,

though his former apprentice would never let him see it.

Source : The Captive Temple

Their last encounter, before that,

Out of the corner of his eye, he noted an erratic movement from one of the swoops. He looked to the side without turning his head. The rider was hooded. In only the split second he allowed himself to glance, Qui-Gon recognized who it was. The surprise hit him broadside. Andra.

"Behind you, Obi-Wan," he said in a low voice. "Be prepared."

The energy bars retracted. The guards rushed forward. Qui- Gon and Obi- Wan activated their lightsabers simultaneously and leaped toward them. Blaster fire pinged around them, and they deflected it, swinging in a blur of motion faster than the eye could follow.

Xanatos uses some dun moch on Obi-Wan and it works,

The steam was sucked back into the fissure. At the same moment, Xanatos leaped forward. Still shaken, Obi-Wan was caught off guard. He barely was able to parry Xanatos' blow with his lightsaber. Xanatos whirled, one leg kicking out, sending Obi-Wan flying backward.

Then Xanatos leaped after the fallen boy.

Qui-Gon stops Xanatos in midair,

"No!" Qui-Gon cried. He reached out to the rocks and vegetation that surrounded him, for the current that connected him to all things, that connected him to Obi-Wan.

He hit Xanatos in midair. Their bodies connected like mountains of hard rock. There was no give to Xanatos' muscles, no yielding in Qui-Gon. The clash was titanic. Qui- Gon felt the shock of it move through his bones. For a mo ment, Xanatos gripped Qui-Gon's arm, forcing them to remain entangled.

"You brought me to this," he said, his midnight eyes burning.

After that, Obi-Wan pull himself together,

They landed inches apart, lightsabers already engaged. The lava was slippery and Qui-Gon had to avoid the fissures of steam.

Qui-Gon followed, admiring Obi-Wan's focus. Now the two fought as one. Xanatos had weakened, and they used this to drive him back, back against the black pool. If they could get his back against it, they would be able to disarm him or defeat him. It would be his choice.

End of the Dark Jedi Xanatos...

Qui-Gon's reflexes ;

Qui-Gon's extraordinarily fast reflexes were sharper than Padawan's. His lightsaber activated in a blur of light. He sprang forward to slash at the whip in order to sever it.

Real time snapped back. Qui-Gon anticipated the bounty hunter's reach to the blaster strapped to her thigh. He moved forward to counterattack. He did not anticipate that she would aim at Astri, not at him. His Jedi reflexes were fast enough so that he was able to spin and turn, sweeping his lightsaber wide. He was slightly off-balance, but he managed to deflect the fire.

Source : The Deadly Hunter

Qui-Gon taking down two droid with one stroke ;

The guard droids wheeled around the corner, blasters held high. The Jedi charged as one spinning block, lightsabers in constant motion. Qui-Gon took out two droids with one stroke. Adi flipped over the group and attacked from behind. Siri went down on one knee and came up with a mighty swing that knocked one droid over and cut the other in two. Obi-Wan went for the droids on Qui-Gon's left side, slicing the top off of one droid and burying his lightsaber in the control panel of the other.

Source : Dangerous Rescue

Qui-Gon was fast enough for a malia's (very fast and deadly predator) surprise attack ;

A malia suddenly dropped from a tree branch, leaping toward Qui-Gon, while two others attacked from the rear. Qui-Gon whirled, his lightsaber unstoppable. In a moment, the leaping malia was dead on the forest floor and the other two reversed their course. Qui-Gon caught one as it turned to attack again. It fell in a heap of fur.

Qui-Gon's reflexes ;

The blaster fire was so close to his Master that Obi-Wan's heart gave a lurch. That did not prevent him, however, from activating his own lightsaber and slashing forward to protect him in the same moment. If Qui- Gon's reflexes had been a split second slower, he would have been cut down. As it was, the sleeve of his robe was seared by the blaster heat.

Leaping and deflecting both ;

It would be difficult to leap over the wall and deflect fire at the same time. Qui-Gon knew that. He had no choice.

He accessed the Force and leaped. Beside him, he saw Obi-Wan do the same. They sailed over the wall, high above. In those quick seconds, Qui-Gon had a chance to swipe two probe droids. Obi-Wan neatly cleaved one in half. The three droids fell sizzling to the ground.

Source : The Ties That Bind

Qui-Gon's speed, faster than eye could see ;

Slowly, Qui-Gon deactivated his lightsaber. Obi-Wan watched, knowing his

Master could still attack in a movement faster than the eye could see.

Qui-Gon's neatness on lightsaber, he cut Balog's fingers for stopping the detonator ;

"I leave you to your fate," Balog said, stepping back toward the transport. His small, dark eyes glinted. "Don't move, either of you. You see my finger near this button? If you try to stop me and are a fraction off, if you stumble, if you give me only a split second, I can press it. If you move toward me, I could flinch and press it. If, in short, one of the thousand things that could go wrong does go wrong, Tahl will die." Qui-Gon sprang. He had never moved faster or more surely. He knew that Balog did not see him, that one moment he was standing meters away and

the next he was in the air next to him. With careful precision, Qui-Gon brought his lightsaber down, neatly slicing off Balog's finger. The transmitter fell to the floor.

"I guess you didn't flinch," Qui-Gon said.

Qui-Gon winning the Exhibition Day, the competition between several jedi master, in the end he defeats very fast and agile jedi master Tahl ;

It was called Exhibition Day, and they had performed exercises while the

Jedi Masters watched. Force exercises, balance, endurance, climbing,

jumping, swimming. Sometimes they split into teams of two or four. It was

play, but it was also serious.

The last exercise was a series of training lightsaber matches. Some were

done blindfolded. Some pitted one student against two attackers.

Qui- Gon won all his matches. It came down to him and Clee Rhara and

Tahl. Then Tahl beat Clee Rhara.

"Guess that leaves us," she whispered as she bowed to him at the start of

the final match. "Don't worry. I'll go easy on you."

They had been matched many times before. He knew how fast she was.

She knew how strong he was. Knowing each other's strengths made the

match more interesting. Qui-Gon found fighting Tahl to be both exhausting

and exhilarating. It brought out his best skills.

They whirled around the space, using every inch of wall and floor.

All the Jedi students admired Tahl's gymnastic abilities. She could run up a

wall, twist, and come at you with a sweeping backhand twist that left you

dizzy.

Tahl fought hard. Qui-Gon admired how just when he thought she was

tiring, she would find fresh strength. He could not match her agility, but he

was able to surprise her with strategy. He saw her eyes flash with

astonishment and her teeth grit in determination as she parried his blows

and came at him with a series of twists and reversals.

The match was not timed. It would only end when one of them scored a

blow. Exhaustion began to slow their moves, but they did not stop or make

mistakes. He could hear the murmur among the spectators, wondering

how long the two students could continue. He sensed more Jedi Masters

arriving.

Tahl's face was a mask. She had gone deep within herself, past her

exhaustion to a place of sheer will. Qui-Gon had never felt so tired. His arm

muscles shook. His legs felt watery. They trembled. Still he did not stop or

make a mistake.

Then Tahl's foot slipped. Just a fraction, but it was enough. The floor was

wet with their sweat. She left herself vulnerable for one split second, and

he moved forward, kicking out with one foot and driving the lightsaber from

her grasp. At the same time he brought his own lightsaber close to her. He

did not touch her with it. He was not willing to give her even the slightest

sting from the training saber.

"Match to Qui-Gon," one of the Jedi Masters spoke.

Qui-Gon and Tahl bowed to each other. Then they collapsed together on a

bench nearby. "A good match," he said, panting.

"It would have been better if I'd won." He shook his head.

Source : The Death of Hope

Qui-Gon using his agility, and taking down two probe droids with one stroke ;

Blaster fire to his left, then to his right. Behind him, Qui-Gon counted

seven droids, now in attack mode. Their sensors glowed red as they

pinpointed his location. Blaster fire rained around him like a cage.

It was almost impossible to dodge it.

Qui-Gon ran at the wire fence. He shifted his body horizontally, calling on

the Force to help him scale it without using his hands. His balance was

perfect as he hit the top. He gave a backward leap and took two probe

droids out with one single downward stroke.

Before he hit the ground, he twisted in midair to land a few centimeters

away, confusing the probe droid that fired at the spot where he should have

landed. He ran at the warehouse wall now, straight up, and then flipped

backward, swiping a glancing blow at the third droid. It buzzed, blaster fire

erupting in a series of flashes. Then it began to smoke, spiraling down until

it crashed.

Qui-Gon deflecting blaster fire while he zigzagged down ;

Qui-Gon ran. He deflected the blaster fire as he zigzagged down the short

passageway between the wall and the Legislative building. Then he leaped

to the top of the wall and jumped over.

Using the force for smashing the droid ;

He felled two droids, but the others were relentless. Some rushed toward him, blasting fire. The others flanked him and aimed as they tried to get behind him. Qui-Gon felt sweat roll down his forehead, stinging his eyes.

He used the Force to smash one against the wall, but it reformed and came after him again. He used his lightsaber to cut it in half.

I've always like Qui-Gon. Nice respect trend.

@shootingnova: Very nice job man.

What if he made a CV account?

Did you know in all of his videos with Qui Gon, he posts the scan of Qui Gon hurling Feemor and then crops out Qui Gons saber, saying "Qui Gon needs to deactivate his lightsaber in order to perform such telekinetic feats". He just lost any credibility he previously had for blatantly editing source material to make Qui Gon look like he was weaker in TK than he actually is.

1. Thanks.

Oh fun fact.....he's part of the Wookiepedia staff.

Or I think it was he types some of the info on pages there.

@ssjdarthplagueis: If he made a CV account I would flame the sh*t out of him.

Doesn't surprise me. He probably typed loads of misinformation on Maul's page and repeatedly posted about him getting cut in half, like he biasedly does in his videos with Maul. Guy is clueless.

Noticed a new and interesting TK feat for Qui-Gon.

Obi-Wan and Quinlan Vos trying to impress each other at the near of a river, Vos falls ;

No Caption Provided

Then here comes ;

Obi-Wan : The churning water pulled us both down into darkness. I lost sense of direction. I was running out of air, I knew if I let you go, I could make it, but I wasn't about to release you. Nor was the river going to release us. I really thought we were about to die. Then I saw a dim light and thought I heard Qui-Gon's voice. And Qui-Gon pulled us out of river.

Source : Star Wars Republic 69

Force pull on Obi-Wan and Quinlan Vos, but most impressive thing about it is against churning power of the river, which was strong enough to drown both Obi-Wan and Vos, Qui-Gon pulling two of them against it.

Also I have to say his mind trick / TP talents on a Hutt was really impressive, IIRC he used a mind trick on leader of the gungans Rugor Nass, though gungans are not smart but still he was the leader of them, that should be not easy...

And here, his force ghost appearances in TCW ;

Loading Video...

And the most impressive thing about it, teaching this to Yoda. To that little green guy who was the strongest light side user of his time...

@erkan12: There's supposed to be a Cloak/Concealment feat for Qui-Gon where he stops some droids from detecting his life signs. This is supposed to be in The Ties That Bind. Do you have a quote for this?

@shootingnova: Did you mean this ?

The probe droid zoomed up the alley and back down, searching for movement. The Jedi were trained to keep perfectly still. They did not even blink. They could slow down their breathing and their life processes so that even the sensitive probe droid couldn't pick them up. The probe droid didn't leave the alley. Slowly it revolved, moving up and down the street.

Also, one of Jinn's fighting technique ; ''false attack'' He taught this to Obi-Wan :

The perfect attack begins with your attention. Every pebble can be an obstacle or an opportunity. Hone your focus. Add speed, timing, strategy, surprise. Do not forget the Force is with you. Obi-Wan leaped to his opponent's left side. He used a technique Qui- Gon called "false attack." He knew he would not win with this strategy, but he did not mean to. He wanted to draw her forward toward him.

Source : The Dangerous Rescue

IIRC, they did this as a team against Maul as well.

''Qui-Gon's perfect mastery of the Force'' ;

She moved to his right and charged, firing as she went. Obi-Wan slid on the slippery stones, struggling to regain his footing as he deflected thefurious round of fire, twisting his body. He felt the rush of air as the whipsnaked around him.For the first time, he was seriously worried. He was outmatched and he knew it. He did not have Qui-Gon's perfect mastery of the Force. And he could not meet the dual challenge of the whip and the blaster. He could not get close enough to disarm her, and he doubted he would be lucky enough to capture the whip a second time. He had only managed to do so back on Simpla-12 because Astri had barreled down on Ona Nobis in a gravsled.

Source : The Dangerous Rescue

About being in the jedi council ;

Many held the opinion that Qui-Gon would have been seated on the council, if not for his penchant for bending the rules and following his own instincts--even when those instincts conflicted with the combined wisdom of the council members. This had not endeared him to his loftier peers.

Source : Cloak of Deception

Relationship with Yoda, lightsaber and the force ;

Yoda and Qui-Gon had a long-standing relationship, but Yoda was one of those who sometimes took issue with Qui - Gon's focus on the living Force over the unifying Force. As Qui-Gon explained it, he was simply built that way. Even in lightsaber training, he rarely entered into a match with a strategy in mind. Instead he allowed himself to improvise, and to alter his technique according to the demands of the moment--even when the longer view might have helped him.

Source : Cloak of Deception

Trainings with Anoon Bondara ;

@erkan12: Yes, that was the showing I wanted. It turns out to be both a Breath Control feat and a variation of Healing Trance.

---The Clone Wars Season 06 Episode 11 - Voices

I believe this is a good way to show TK potential of Qui-Gon, and countable feat for him. Even in his force ghost form Qui-Gon was lifting some goods and Yoda himself. He could do much better without force ghost form.

And this, he throwed TPM Maul with one punch. A respectable physical strength feat.

@erkan12: Knocking Maul off the bridge is a good feat, but the other feat is not worth putting in. Qui-Gon had already become one with the Force, which should be tantamount to unlimited power. He clearly states he is part of the Living Force.

Here's some force knowledge hype for Qui-Gon ;

The Force did not disagree. Qui-Gon had had a special relationship with the Force, and he had taught his apprentice well.

Mace implies that Qui-Gon's force mastery is somewhat special.

There is a quote in the RotS novel which describes Qui-Gon as a legendary Jedi master. I copy it if you want?

I've just noticed another Force accolade for Jinn...

He twisted the last wires, wondering whether he would ever attain his Master's unshakable serenity, or feel the Force as clearly and constantly as Qui-Gon. "Power's back, " he said.

-Taken from ; The Phantom Menace Jr. Novelization

Uses the Force to K.O a Gungan;

"Colo claw fish!" the Gungan shrieked. "Yous Jedi do something! Where da Force now, you think?"

"Relax," Qui-Gon Jinn said softly, placing his hand on Jar Jar's twitching shoulder. The Gungan jerked and promptly fainted.

"You overdid it," Obi-Wan observed, wheeling the bongo about and jetting away through the darkness.

Here is a pretty good feat for Qui Gon:

Jemba gave a roar of anger and launched himself at Clat’Ha. He hit the door frame, which began to crack and splinter under the pressure. Si Treemba, terrified, hissed and pressed himself against the wall. Obi-Wan watched in fascination. The Hutt could bring down the entire sickbay!

Clat’Ha drew her blaster, but Qui-Gon stepped in front of her and raised his hand. He locked eyes with the Hutt. Obi-Wan felt the power of the Force fill the room.

“Enough,” Qui-Gon said quietly.

Jemba stopped pushing to get inside the room. The Hutt knew he could not get to Clat’Ha. Qui-Gon glanced at Clat’Ha. Slowly, she lowered the blaster and returned it to the holding device on her leg. Obi-Wan had to admire Qui-Gon’s skill. He felt a pang of regret. There was so much he wished he could learn from the Jedi.

Credit: Jedi Apprentice-The Rising Force

He calms down a Hutt named Jemba. Pretty impressive, since we know how hard Hutts are to influence through telepathy, with Luke Skywalker himself failing to do in ROTJ.

Qui-Gon’s hand dropped, and he took a step back. “Don’t try to speak,” he said gently. “You’ve had a bad fever, but I’ve taken care of it. Your wounds turned out to be worse than what the medics could handle.”

He knows Force Heal, employing it effectively on Obi Wan.

Excellent thread, I've recently reread the Jedi Apprentice Series and Cloak of Deception. Jinn's one of my favorite Jedi. Here's another good one. He catches Jar Jar's tongue faster than the eye could catch:

"In a flash Qui Gon reached out and grabbed the end of his tongue. The movement was quicker than the eye could catch. Anakin stared at him, amazed."

Source: Star Wars Episode 1 Journal Queen Amidala.

This is also from Padme's perspective and she's a highly trained combatant, making it more impressive.

This other feat might not be canon anymore, but I still count it. Qui-Gon dislodges Maul from the ramp with a two handed blow so hard the ship shuttered:

"But an instant later the dark warrior appeared on the ramp, too! Qui-Gon swung his lightsaber as hard as he could at his attacker. Crack! The whole ship shuttered from the impact. I watched in amazement as the dark warrior fell back to the ground."

Great thread, though it could use update with the stuff recently digged up by @meatpants.

Sheev himself hold Qui-Gon's capabilities in a high esteem:

Qui-Gon Jinn took the lead. A powerful warrior, I suspect he surprised Maul with his stamina.

[...]

This was my victory as much as Lord Maul's, for it was thanks to my teaching, my training, that he was able to defeat the great Qui-Gon Jinn. The defeat of such an opponent should have cooled his mind, sharpened his focus.

-Star Wars Episode I Journal: Darth Maul

By the time of The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon's style is only "a bit" less deadly than Mace Windu's:

His fighting style is graceful and precise, albeit a bit deadlier than Qui-Gon.

-Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles: Prima's Official Strategy Guide

Qui-Gon > Kit Fisto according to Nick Gillard.

Frankly, I've never treated Gillard's words too seriously.

I've added this mainly as a trivia.

Gillard would only be going by canon, and I believe Fisto's only good canon feat is fighting with Grievous for a bit, while Qui-gon's best feat is lasting a while against Maul. Qui-gon had was one of the main characters of ep1, while Fisto was really only a background character, so it really shouldn't be surprising he would be considered above Fisto. Either way I think they are pretty close.

Frankly, I don't see anything in Legends to suggest that Fisto would have a clear, defined edge over Qui-Gon.

Right :) Which is why Kit Fisto is a tier 7 and Maul is a tier 8.
