In Shane Black's upcoming "Predator" in 2018, do you expect it to go the same way as 2014 Godzilla, or will it go downhill like Alien Covenant?
Predator (2018) expectations
@zaied: from what I've heard, they will be following the events after the original predator and it Will bring up more of the Yautja history and origin. A few things I would like to see in the new film would be
1. An elder predator in combat.
2. Machiko Noguchi
3. A larger variety of creatures and aliens for the predator to hunt. Not just Xenos and humans.
@the_stegman: predators wasn't that bad.
Granted it wasn't great, and the story/characters could have been better written, but considering the predator movie was better than the one previous to it, predator 2, and the action was decent, I would give the movie a solid 6-7.5/10

I hated pretty much everything about it. I put Predator 2 way above it actually. The only cool thing about it were the Predators, which were few and far between.
@the_stegman: meh, agree to disagree.
But from what I heard, it's gonna follow the events of the original predator, as if the other movies doesn't matter as much, and new weapons, and history for the predator.
@sladerulez: I'm down with that, shame no Arnold tho.
@the_stegman: yeah that's a bummer. But I would still like to see an elder predator in action or The Human predator, Machiko Noguchi in the film.
I want preds who don't job. no more losing to humans in CQC, dying from falling logs, etc. make them badass like in the EU, where they were like 20+ tonners, durable enough to shrug off bullets and sizeable explosions, can shred through tanks, dodge auto fire, run 60mph+, with lots of good tech as well.
There kinda low

You'll never seen anything close to that on film, but I agree I'm tired of seeing Predators job to humans.
Oh and what is the EU if you don't mind me asking.
@theycallmebt: what do you mean, we can. look at the MCU and DCEU, we can show superhuman feats on film. and the EU is things like games, comics, etc that feature predators.

Yeah but they're never going to do that since every film INSISTS on making humans a match for Predators.
The most powerful big screen Predators will probably be the ones from AVP for a long time.
@theycallmebt: might as well bring in Captain America to fight them. if they are making humans a match for preds, they better do it right this time and have the human have weaponry that poses a real threat to preds, or B, are superhuman themselves. if this movie takes place during the sc fi period of aliens, we can have people with super soilder enchancements and/or power armor. come on moviemakers, give the predators good showings this time, and relive them of killer croc-jobbing syndrome
@omnitool543: considering them buying fox, i wouldn't put it past them for doing that.

Honestly, I disagree with that. Not on the jobbing bit, but on how high you want their stats. I feel the comics turning them into mid-tier bricks with super speed kind of gets away from the core premise of Predator: An alien race that hunts humans for sport.
The creature you described is not in any way in danger from a human being even if it were completely naked, much less with all their gear. Hunting humans would be like going duck hunting, only much easier because humans aren't as small a target as ducks.
A predator who can beat the crap out of an unarmed human in hand to hand due to superior strength and resilience but is still vulnerable to bladed weapons like swords and able to be harmed by guns coming to Earth to hunt us is a lot more compelling. It's the entire reason you'd hunt a sapient species. For the thrill of besting something that can fight back. I want to see Predators challenged by their human prey and forced to use varied tactics as the two beings steadily step up their game until one walks out the victor.
It should be a very uphill battle for the human, but victory also shouldn't be a given for the Predator. Otherwise where's the honor in the kill? It would be like killing toddlers. Like a big game hunter killing a rabbit and taking it to his other hunter buddies who hunt lions and trying to pass it off as something impressive.
The feats I'd like to be the main focus isn't in physical brutality, but in intelligence. Predators that stalk their prey and learn their mannerisms and habits and are able to start predicting how their prey might respond to different stimuli. Using more tricks and more tech to lure and bait humans into traps. Identifying human-made traps and turning them against their prey. It's scary to know the human hero can't win in a purely physical contest, but it's far more terrifying to know he might not even be able to win a contest of brains. That's our one thing, and the Predator always seems to be a step ahead.
Skill feats would also be appreciated. Things like long range spear throws or just tearing through groups of humans in close quarters. You ideally should really feel the warrior culture in how they move and fight, where as in older movies they were kind of brutes due to limitations in effects. Granted, it's hard to have good skill showings when you're far stronger than your opponents. That's kind of why I'd like to keep their stats closer to the movies and further from the full-auto dodging tank shredders.
From what I heard the backlash from the first trailer had forced them to reconsider lots of the things that were going on initially and reshoots that brought the movie back to a more traditional approach for a Predator franchise. I guess the initial idea was to bring in more of the Shane Black wittier trademarks which I'm glad they gave up on.
@arc_conductor: how about the other trailers?
@k4tzm4n: @adamtrmm: The Reshoots were more than that.
They also removed two "friendly" predators that would help the humans.
After the reshoots, there's no predator helping the humans, and it's set at night. They also only have Predator hounds as the only other alien species and a possible after credits scebe
@sladerulez: source, please?
@k4tzm4n: it was explained on a recent empire Magazine.
@apocofist: The Predator: basically Jurassic world, but with Predators.
Venom: battle of the goops.
Rock vs Boulder: also known as Jungle Cruise.
@sladerulez: Lets not forget:
Creed II: Boxer wanting to continue the legacy of his father vs. A bigger boxer who also wants to continue the legacy of his father.
@apocofist: of course,but we can't forget the Highlight of the upcoming films:
Spiderverse: an entire universe of multiple spidermen.
@sladerulez: Doesn't count.
The theme here are things vs. an essentially bigger version of themselves so unless Miles fights Superior Spiderman whos bigger than him in size then it doesn't count.
@apocofist: dammit. How about... Alita?
Mecha human vs Larger mecha human.
@sladerulez: Never heard of it until you mentioned it and after a quick google search involving pictures as well as reading the summary I sure as hell don't intend to view it any time soon.
