@infantfinite128: In the comic, V rescues Evey when she as a teenager tries to sell herself on the streets. He gives her a safe home with culture, but he also subtly trains her into becoming his successor.

In the comic book series, V abandons Evey relatively shortly after he kills Lilliman as part of her training since she has to experience the real world as an adult. He only takes her back to his home after she fails at avenging her lover.

The comic ends with Evey realizing (after V dies, requesting a viking funeral AND that she doesn't look under his mask) that V wanted her to follow in his footstep and becomes the new V, even picking an apprentice of her own.
