One Piece battles S-Ranked

Yohohohohoho guys, I thought this would be fun to try: I'll be listing in-universe battles that you can rate:

S- God-tier perfection

A- Super

B- Great

C- Good

D- Ok

E- Sub-par

F- Bad

G- Dugong crap

You'll of course be judging the fight on setting significance, excitement, suspense, variety and conclusion but it's up to you if you just want to vote a letter or expand on your selection. First 10 votes per fight, this isn't comparative, it's individual so I'll just post another fight when the limit is reached.

First fight: Luffy vs Don Krieg

I’ll give Luffy vs Don Krieg a C until I go back and reread the fight/series.

Boring ass thread for an dragged out, overstuffed, mediocre manga.

OP:

Luffy vs Krieg. Can I give it a C+? At the time it was amazing imo. Best fight of the East Blue. Its obviously nothing exciting compared to later/more recent fights but up until that point, Luffy was beating everyone with one or two hits. Krieg was his first long drawn out challenge where he was bleeding and exhausted at the end of it.

You know what? I'm giving it a B.

Best fight in the East Blue, but still overall dull because the East Blue was boring fight wise anyways

Eh, pay it no mind. Pretty much any series of high success gets random barbs of hate, it's just nature. Though this is more than likely born out of a form of tall poppy syndrome as I know for a fact that Pip hasn't read One Piece. From my perspective a manga so good it receives constant high critical acclaim, broken awards, is the highest selling comic under a single author and the fourth best selling of all time, catching up to the big three: Supes, Batman and Spidey, despite its relatively short duration being only 20 years-can't be called 'mediocre' without a hefty degree of petty pseudo-jealousy.

But anyway, ignore the peasants :D

I'll give it a B really enjoyed this fight when i first read it in the manga and it was fun rewatching in the anime just now.

@socajunkie: Hey I'm just excited to be able to participate in OP threads now. Its been on my "to read" list for like....ever, and I'm just now reading through it for the first time. On Volume 63 right now. Went into it blind a few months ago with literally zero prior knowledge. Hah.

Hmm, I'd probably give it a C+ overall.

The choreography was relatively simple, but still hype given the way it played out. Luffy punking Don Krieg while his boys watch in awe was incredibly satisfying and Zeff's dialogue to Sanji about Luffy is one of my favorite moments in the entire series. Probably the best "fight" in East Blue.

@socajunkie: Luffy vs Krieg is an A. Easily one of Luffy's most badass moments. Thanks for making this thread btw.

It's a good battle. He got hurt and powered through. A superpowered guy taking on a guy with gadgets and armor. Nice. Kinda seems symbolic in a way with what happened in breaking the armor and beating Don Krieg, sort of like when Luffy carried the weight of a golden ball to beat Enel and ring the bell.

Probably a B, imo.

Yea this thread didn't get as much traction as I thought it would, oh well.

Fight 2:

Straw Hats vs Pacifista

Eh, OK fight. Never liked Pacifistas

B- I love when the crew get to show their chemistry in combat together and I love how it began a long series of fights where it dawned on the crew/reader that they were in no way ready for the new world.

D for the fight because it was more of a straight beating.

B for the meaning because it was really the crews first time they knew they weren't going to win.

B it had a great emotional value to it.

The Don Krieg fight was GARBAGE....

B. Mostly cuz of Zoro recounting Thriller Bark with the arrival of the pacifists and later Kuma. The strawhat teamwork was nice too.

I fully agree with SkySanji here. Also, IMO, the Don Krieg fight was completely overshadowed by Mihawk vs Zoro in that arc.

A- for being the teams first major ass-kicking. This fight directly lead to the 2 year time skip. It meant a lot.

@socajunkie So for Kreig I am giving it a B+. I thought the fight was a fantastic early on representation of what the series was about and just how far characters would go for their dreams. The narration by Zeff talking about Luffy and those who follow their dreams was perfectly captured by Luffy essentially using suicide like attacks.

For Pacifista I am giving it a A-. It was the first real reality check of the power of the WG, and that simply digging deep was not enough for them to get out of situations. I thought them getting overpowered separated it from a lot of other shonens where the MC always wins through random powerups.

Nami vs Kalifa

@socajunkie: D, it was kind of boring and I thought it dragged out for a little too long. Nami has some cool moments though, I prefer her fight with Miss Doublefinger though

Nami vs Kalifa is a C. It was nice to see Nami's new attacks in action, plus the soap-soap fruit is just so wacky. It also ended rather nicely.
