What comic films do you think is underrated or under hyped? Ones that everyone who saw it liked, but has been forgotten, and is still one your favorites. Or, ones that mostly no one liked and you liked, or you don't think it deserves to be hated on as much as it is.

Mine?

Don't get how this movie is just OK to people, its in my top 5.

No Caption Provided

An example of a forgotten one. When I mention this movie people pause to think about it and say "Oh yeah I saw that.. I think" I adore this film

No Caption Provided

Another forgotten movie. Its not the movie people bring up when talking about the MCU. Its my favorite MCU film besides Avengers. I LOVED Ed Norton as Hulk, and I think he did a better job than Ruffillo

No Caption Provided

To me this film is GOOD. And stoping there. Did it live up to the expectations to the first 2? No. But I think it doesn't deserve the beat down it gets. Solid flick. Just a solid flick, but defiantly doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

X-Men 3 is not underrated. Its garbage.

Look no further than the 3rd character on that movie poster, Angel. They introduce him in this movie and he serves NO purpose other than to see a guy with his shirt off with angel wins. The only time he is actually invovled with the story is when his Dad (who hates him) is about to die and he conveniently shows up to save him.

And lets not get into how bad they handled Cyclops in that movie.

Or how they turned Iceman-Rogue-Kitty into some stupid love triangle that no one wanted.

The only movie I agree with on your list is Watchmen. That movie did horrible at the box office and I don't know why. It was excellent imo. Luckily it seems to be more appreciate on comicvine, so even then its pushing it a bit.

I agree with Watchmen. It's not perfect, but it's not bad either.

Another that springs to mind are the two Hellboy movies. No one ever mentions them, but they're both fantastic - Perlman is the man.

Uhh Incerdible Hulk wasn't bad...but it just felt kinda dull, to be honest. I much preferred Ruffalo's I'm-in-control-kinda Bruce to Norton's more...I don't know, skinny normal Bruce?

@gor724:

If you've read the V for Vendetta comics, the movie(as an adaptation of the comics) is garbage. If you don't compare it to the comics though, and see it as a stand-alone movie, it's brilliant.

That said:

Red(starring Bruce Willis)

Dr. Strange(from 1978)

Road to Perdition

and A History of Violence

are all very underrated comic book films. The last two especially, are brilliant.

Its underrated for a good reason. The movie was campy garbage and the turtles looked awful and laughable. Its a disgrace to any TMMT fan.

@rukm: Actually, I thought Perdition was a good adaptation of the comic. They've made some changes on the characters, but they manage to keep the generally "message" of the comic, unlike V for Vendetta, that completely butchered the original message/theme.

TMNT 1990 was huge when it came out. So back then it wasn't underrated. I love that move, but your right now a days it's massively underrated. I think people forget how original it was for its time. It was considered "dark" then and I believe it was also an independent film.

I don't think any of these are underrated. I also don't believe art can be over or under rated. It can be under appreciated, maybe. I definitely don't think the original TMNT is under anything. That's like saying that Apocalypse Now is underrated because the kids these days don't talk about it. It, like TMNT, has secured its place in entertainment history.

Back on topic. Dick Tracy was huge in its initial release but has suffered from a bare bones DVD release and no Bluray. I watched that movie every day during summer vacation one year. Road to Perdition doesn't get a lot of credit, but I think it was amazing. It holds a special place in my heart because it was the last movie I saw in the theatre with my father while he was alive. Watchmen didn't do great at the box office because the general public doesn't want to see a 3+ hour film that doesn't have the Titanic in it, but it is one of the best CBMs ever made in my opinion. American Splendor probably IS the best CBM ever made. V for Vendetta was pretty cool until I read V for Vendetta. Now I wouldn't watch that garbage if someone payed me despite it's being full of great actors. Lastly, even though it's not based on a comic, I think Orgazmo is one of the better superhero movies ever made. It hits all the points a good superhero origin needs to, plus it's hilarious. I know it's not for everyone, but I think it's a masterpiece. My girlfriend and I quote that movie more than just about any other.

This could be the issue as to its underrated status. But first chance you get, you should rent it. It's a roller coaster of visuals, actions and more than a couple of plot twists for good measure. And Maggie Q. Yum!

Not my favorite movie by any means, but the Tom Jane Punisher movie was vastly underrated... I would love for someone to tell me why, other than maybe the Punisher not being that popular a character... Or maybe the portrayal of the Punisher wasn't the most faithful adaptation to the character... Slow-paced... There were things wrong with it, but none of that makes it a bad movie IMO

Also, I'm watching the Fantastic Four (the old one) right now... Its terrible, but I'm enjoying right now... To me its a bad kids movie from the early 90's... Bad movie, but I enjoyed it

But any movie can be good if u come in it with the right mind set

Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man 3, X-Men: Last Stand, Fantastic 4 and both of the Donner Superman films are all good to great CBMs that people just love to hate. If that's your opinion than fine, hate them. But I will be watching all those for years to come and no one can stop me from loving them.

Green Hornet wasn't a comic movie

it was a radio show for more than half a decade before being reinvented as a film serial... there was an eventual comic book that came out, but even in the commentary for the new movie they mention the radio show and the serials as huge influences for the new reimagined movie, but don't ever mention the comic book.

I totally agree with TMNT though

I never considered Thomas Jane's Punisher underrated, especially since War Zone was supposed to be a sequel until Thomas Jane dropped out because of too many rewrites to the script. Despite it's changes I thought is was a good version of the old school Punisher from the 80's and early 90's, and a fair adaption to The Punisher: Welcome Back, Frank.
