So one of the reasons why modern comics are introducing diversity of race, religion, gender in comic book characters was because of targeting new demographics or new readers.

So why are the management only targeting the hero characters and not villain characters?

I mean, it is interesting to hear that there's a gay iceman or autistic reed richards (didn't read comics so i don't know the background) but its somewhat disconcerting to see them dehumanizing villain characters. Joker's sexuality gets hardly mentioned these days - in the past comics he gets gay subtext. Correct me if i am wrong, but i don't think Doctor Doom was ever portrayed as mentally ill or something.

Why?

@godsaveusall: Straight mentally sane white men are the most evil.

I agree. Let's make Thanos gay, let's make Galactus a transsexual lesbian and let's make the Joker fall in love with Batman.

@bella_blackstar: expected this answer from other posters. However there are readers who are fans of villains. Some villains are also very complex, example being Magneto.

There's plenty of diversity amongst villains. Ra's al Ghul isn't exactly Johnny Whitebread. Black Manta, Poison Ivy, Sinestro. Magneto's Jewish, right?

@godsaveusall: True, but the general idea is that you side with the hero. They are the focal point, villains are the complement.

Villains are diverse enough in my opinion.

I mean he have aliens, cyborgs, rogue super A.I. and robots, misshappen mutants, insectoids, tentacle monsters, giant crabs, etc.

The idea is to create characters that are inspirational.

I actually did see a petition a while back to turn Joker gay.

EDIT: At the time I'm posting this its 25 signatures away from its goal LOL
