MCU Thor Benatar Calculation

In Love and Thunder, Thor pulls the Benatar

The Benatar has two settings. Normal flight, and FTL flight

Thor is pulling it on the FTL mode, as the two engines are together.

The engines are orange because it is accelerating to full speed

The FTL mode setting has only shown us one speed, and anything under it has been the other mode.

In this scene, the ship goes from Earth to a place with a nebula right behind it. The closest nebula to Earth is 700 light years away, or 4.1e+15 miles away. The ship went there in 6 seconds before slowing down, which means it went on average, 6.9e+14 mph.

The spaceship weighs around 575 tons from calcs

ENERGY

Anyway, this means that the ship put out a KE of ~2.5E+34 joules of energy over the course of 6 seconds, or ~4.2e+33 watts!

FORCE

Plugging the stats into a displacement calculator, given t=6 seconds, distance = 700 light years, and starting speed = 0 mph, at an average acceleration, it reached a max speed of 2.2E+18 m/s, which means that the acceleration it went through: (2.2E+18 m/s - 0 m/s)/6 s = 366666666666666667 meters/second^2, which means that at 575 tons, the force (mass x acceleration) = 42998033794749194488694 pounds or 21499016897374597120 tons of force (2.2e19.)

In Conclusion

Taika Waititi obviously wanted to show that Thor is far stronger than the Benatar is. This is shown onscreen and by intent, and is consistent with Captain Marvel's showing who he should be equal to in power.

Addressing the "Debunks"

"It might not have been at full power" - False. The ship can go MFTL on the regular setting that is not even full power.

There would be no reason to put it on the fastest setting if the lower setting would be enough for Thor to exercise

But when the ship goes FTL the engines turn blue and when Thor is pulling it the engines are yellow/red.

@power_hunter: I adressed that in the OP. They are orange when they start up. You can here the same starting up sound in L&T.

The issue is that the clip is it using a jump point

However it is still capable of interplanetary speeds under orange setting.

I think this feat is consistent with resisting to the bifrost.

he had a bit difficulty while restraining benatar's pull, and resisted the bifrost's pull like 6 seconds or something so, even if we don't consider he got stronger after training maybe this could be consistent, I don't know.

Yup. L&T Thor wrecks Carol and Thanos. Confirmed by WOG and also by feats.

And with Hela crushing Mjolnir and with Thor overpowering full IG beam which should scale above single stone attacks.

@goldeneagle: is the first gif the full ength of the scene, because im gonna need you to clarify something. You all said the engine pairing together along with the engine flames turning blue means its going FTL, but looking closely at the engine in the first gif, (although their together) they still look orange. Which would employ it's not going ftl.

@rjr: The first gif is the full length, but it is very short. The energy is red, but that is just what it is when it is starting up (you can hear the engines starting in the scene that the gif is from)

At the end, you can see that although it is at full speed mode, the flames are orange in the beginning.

So overall, it is not going full speed in that gif, but it is accelerating to full speed as they would not set up the exercise to go at low speed in the most powerful setting when a much less powerful setting (that the Benatar is commonly in,) can go many times faster.

There is also a possibility that it is not able to go at full burn because Thor's pulling it backwards, but nothing supports that.

@mreperson: The FTL speed limit does not exist in the MCU.
