Since I finally watched Thor: Ragnarok, I thought I would share my opinion, too:
Overall: It far exceeded my expectations. I was expecting a mindless, childish comedy. Some scenes were a bit silly, but most of the funny scenes were actually enjoyable. And the serious parts of the movie were great as well (e.g. Thor discovering his lightning powers, his inner conversation with Odin, the surprisingly brutal fight with Hela at the end). Moreover the acting of Blanchett, Hemsworth, Hopkins, Hiddleston, Ruffalo, etc. was great. Overall I really enjoyed this movie.
However there are still two things that really bothered me:
First: Destroying Mjolnir. I think it was unnecessary. It really diminishes the status Mjolnir has in the comics. Hell even Celestials and Skyfathers cannot easily destroy it. Moreover, the wouldn't have had to do it, just to show, how powerful Hela is or to further explore Thor's powers without his hammer. She could have just stopped it and for the most part of the movie trapped it in another dimension or something, the way she was banished, too. Then Thor would still have to go through this journey of discovering his powers without Mjolnir, etc. Hela would have single-handedly conquered Asgard showing how powerful and what a badass she is. Mjolnir is just such an important part of Thor, in the comics as well as in the actual mythology.
Second: Thor and Hulk are still waaay too underpowered. I mean come on: Thor being held down by a electric net, unable to break out of a usual cell and kept in check by this little electrifying device? Why? In the Planet Hulk comic for example, they at least tried to explain it with him being weakened after falling through that portal. It was also totally unnecessary. Thor would have still needed help to get of the planet and back to Asgard. So: He lands, they try to capture him, he wreaks havoc, meets the Grand Master, they make a deal ("You defeat my champion, I get you of this planet.").
The fight between Thor and Hulk was great but I had hoped for more here. In comparison: Until now I overall enjoyed the MCU far more than the DCEU, but when it comes to superpowered fight scenes the DCEU is much better in my opinion. Thor and Hulk should be powerful enought to create shockwaves and destroy their surroundings with every single punch, kick and tackle, just like the movie versions of Superman and Zod.
Than the fight between Hulk and Fenris. For the most part it was great but why did the battle have to end with Fenris just falling of Asgard? Why not have the Hulk smash his head in after an epic fight?
The biggest letdown for me was that even after fully mastering his lightning powers Thor still wasn't able to defeat Hela and had to rely on Surtur to destroy Asgard. Their was a missed opportunity to incorporate two important lines from previous marvel movies: "Its power has no equal as a weapon to destroy or as a tool to build." (Odin talking about Mjolnir in Thor 1) and "You are a destroyer, Odinson." (Heimdall in Thor's vision in Age of Ultron). Hear me out on this: In the final battle Thor fights Hela. He is completely outmatched, gets stabbed multiple times and loses his eye. All hope seems lost, Thor has his inner conversation with his father and masters his lightning powers. Big comeback, Thor is now able to fight Hela equally, but it is still not quite enough. With the help of his brother Loki, a powerful magician who has never really had his opportunity to shine in the MCU, he somehow manages to retrieve his hammer (assuming it is only banished, not destroyed). Now he can defeat Hela BUT in order to do so he has to destroy Asgard himself. ("You are a destroyer, Odinson.") After that Mjolnir's energy absorbing powers are introduced, Thor gathers Asgard's remaining energy, in order to somewhere rebuild it. ("It's power has no equal as a weapon to destroy or as a tool to build.") It would also add a lot of emotional weight, if in order to save his people Thor would have to destroy his homeworld with his own hands.
