No, the Chitauri and Outriders can't destroy a planet, but Thanos does have very powerful weapons in his toolbox. That's why Korath calls him the most powerful being in the universe. Ronan seeks him out to destroy Xandar for that very purpose - consigns himself to Thanos's service and all that. And when Ronan becomes powerful enough to destroy planets on his own, Thanos's provision becomes redundant.
Those shock troops aren't particularly impressive but that's not why Kree/Xandar are afraid of Thanos, even though Xandar has been stated by Gunn to easily solo Earth, Kree hav very powerful warheads and very durable ships, with both being deadlocked in a one millenium long stalemate. And Thanos neg diffed Xandar, and was capable of doing so even in the making of GotG 1, where I pulled this scan from.
@rajjarsalt: Outsider destroy planets on screen.
Yes
If they’re capable of that then Avengers definitely caught them on a bad day. Thanos and his army had a poor performance during Endgame.
IIRC he wanted the IG, and snapping would have destroyed Earth anyways
@starsprime3: Problem is how much days did it took them to do it, how big planet ( u know planets even with 10000x smaller radius than Earth's can be called planets ), what kind of weaponry does Thanos have then.
EDIT: we have seen only extent of this. We have no idea did they crumbled entire volume or part of the volume. We need more details.
Based on the originally canon novel they were capable of wrecking planets bombardment style, over days, rather than some kind of planet busting weapon.
what kind of novel ?

The whole thing is in pieces...

Ahh i see. But also problem is how much time did him take it to do it and also size of planet matters and mass of planet is relevant. Just to calculate gravity boundary energy to have info how much energy can his army output
His army surface wiped a planet on screen, and the story implies he can do that casually. Thanos and the Kree have country busting warheads, a few dozens of those should wipe out continents.
Ok where did they do that ? Any video scan ?
Also how big plantets then. Also having shining light effect from space doesn't mean actual oneshoting country busting, because light effects are so bright u gets blinded
@ready_4_madness: He wanted the guantlet...so he isn't going to destroy the planet at the cost of the infinity stones.
Cool... not really useful in tactical missions. Like imagine wanting to kill one person so you desire to Nuke the area he’s in.
@buildhare: What Novel? The Junior Novel?
