MCU: Steve Rogers vs Wanda Maximoff: Better character?
This thread belongs in General Discussions, right?
I posted it to the wrong subforum by accident. Lmao I'm half asleep. I'll move it.
Wanda is in my opinion the best written character in the mcu (other than Tony Stark). she has developed, changed, and grown so much as a person and she will continue to do so going forward. I love Cap, but he hasn’t changed too much in his time on screen overall. so i’ll definitely give this to Wanda.
Cap is my favorite mcu character. But Wanda has better development while Cap has been The same guy since WW2
Steve easily and this isn’t close
The polls are currently equal, and 9 comments for Wanda vs. 5 for Steve.
It's far from not being close.
Lol at Wanda being complex. She enslaved a town because she was pissed her useless robot simp died and she still faced no repercussions for actions.
@geekryan: Sigh…I meant in my opinion jeez. I’m aware your not a fan of any of my views and people who agree with me lol.
I would say Steve, but it’s close. It’s very close, practically even in fact, however I give the edge to Steve Rogers because of the subtleties of his character. His flaws, his unique perspective and struggles are less obvious than Wanda’s. Her turmoil, grief and kindness are open and explicit like a raw nerve. I don’t think Steve is hiding his issues, it’s just how he deals with them is more guarded. Both are amazing, though and I have great respect for each of them.
Steve for me. I usually prefer inspirational heroes to other types and I don’t mind mostly static characters.
@achillesspawn: I agree with most of the stuff you’re saying but I do want to point out that he was not just a soldier following orders in TFA. He disobeyed orders so he could save Bucky and the rest of the Howling Commandos
Wanda by far. Steve’s character never developed.
He's developed a lot more than Wanda. From First Avenger he was just a soldier, following orders and going up against someone/thing that's blatantly evil. Then in Winter Soldier, he realizes the world has changed, it's no longer black and white, he can't just follow orders, and has to decide for himself, which leads to the conflict in Civil War. That is a lot more than Wanda who barely did anything until Infinity War, and even then wasn't really developed. Then in WandaVision, is the only time she really develops. And even then, she doesn't have to deal with the consequences of her actions, she literally just flies, away and is called a hero. Wanda hasn't developed much, she just has a tragic backstory.
steve has absolutely zero development. He's broken rules since his first movie, he tried out for 5 different tests to get into the army and lied in all of them even though it's against the law, he ignored the training drill officer when he was telling him to fall in line, when he was given the serum he wasn't allowed to fight, and was just a mascot and was told by the general to go back to being a mascot, and guess what he ignored that and went on the front lines anyways.
That being said, just because he has no development doesn't mean he's a bad character, however wanda is still better.
Wanda went from being an orphan to protester, to a volunteer experiment for hydra, to being a terrorist with hydra. Then she joined ultron, which is where she started to change, she ended up switching sides when she found out that he was going to destroy the world. She ended up becoming a hero, and who was concerned for others and not just herself. Now she's in a middle grey area.
@achillesspawn: Facts
Wanda is in my opinion the best written character in the mcu (other than Tony Stark). she has developed, changed, and grown so much as a person and she will continue to do so going forward. I love Cap, but he hasn’t changed too much in his time on screen overall. so i’ll definitely give this to Wanda.
At the beginning, she joined a terrorist organization because she was angry about her parents' deaths.
Most recently, she kidnapped and tortured an entire town because she was sad about her robot boyfriend's death.
Sounds to me like she hasn't changed at all.
Cap is my favorite mcu character. But Wanda has better development while Cap has been The same guy since WW2
I don't know about that. I think as the movies progress cap gets less and less trustful of the government and institutions.
I’ll go with wanda cause Elizabeth Olsen is the best actor in the mcu for me. Cap also hasn’t really grown since TWS.
Wanda for me. I always found Steve to be a big boring, just a morally perfect character with no flaws and almost no character development/arc. Well written, but not as interesting as Wanda
wanda and stark developed more then anyone else in this verse realistically. she has come so far from her appearance in age of ultron. steve while extremely enjoyable as a person has not developed as much as wanda so i’d definitely say wanda is a better character putting aside who you enjoy more to watch on screen.
