"The Black Panther has been a protector of Wakanda for generations. A mantle passed from warrior to warrior. Now because your friend murdered my father, I also wear the mantle of king. So I ask you, as both warrior and king, how long do you think you can keep your friend safe from me?"

T'Challa is the King of Wakanda and the eldest child of T'Chaka and Ramonda. As the Wakandan monarch, he became the holder of the Black Panther mantle. Following the death of his father in the bombing attack orchestrated by Helmut Zemo, T'Challa had set out to kill the Winter Soldier, who was widely believed to be responsible for the attack. During his attempt to find the Winter Soldier, Black Panther had joined a Civil War between the Avengers, where he sided with Iron Man. However, Black Panther eventually learned that Zemo was really the one who had been responsible for his father's demise, as he captured Zemo, handing him over to Everett Ross, while he also vowed never to allow desires of vengeance to consume him again.

Upon returning into Wakanda, T'Challa was officially crowned King, before he attempted to track down Ulysses Klaue, who had resurfaced after several years. However, T'Challa failed to capture Klaue and instead was forced to bring Everett Ross to the city to save his life. T'Challa's leadership was challenged when Erik Killmonger came into Wakanda, having killed Klaue and challenged T'Challa for their throne, as Killmonger bested T'Challa in a duel and took the crown. However, T'Challa had survived the duel and, with the help of M'Baku and his family, returned to Wakanda where he defeated Killmonger. Following the conflict, T'Challa returned to the United Nations as he had shared Wakanda's secret wealth with the rest of the world. - MCU Wiki

This thread will be divided into the following sections:

    • Bio
    • Vibranium Suit
    • Hand-to-hand Skill
    • Panther Powers

The key to this thread will be as follows:

    • CA:CW = Captain America: Civil War
    • BP = Black Panther
    • IW = Avengers: Infinity War
    • EG = Avengers: Endgame

    Bio

    Vibranium Suit

The new Civil War Guidebook confirms that Panther's suit is bulletproof. I put the section in a red box so that it's easily noticeable:

    No Caption Provided

    • Panther's suit has vibranium weaved into it, making it nearly indestructible. - (Marvel Studios' Black Panther - Marvel 101)
    • T'Challa was able to stand in direct line of machine gun fire from a helicopter without any damage to him or even hindrance. - (CA: CW)
    • T'Challa is able to shrug off multiple taser shots from Black Widow's gauntlet. - (CA:CW - 1,2)
    • T'Challa saves Baron Zemo from shooting himself in the chin by placing his gloved hand between the gun and Zemo's face. - (CA:CW)
    • Even from arms length away, Panther isn't bothered by automatic gunfire in his face. - (BP)

    Upgraded Suit

    • When T'Challa returns to Wakanda after the events of Captain America: Civil War, he is given a new upgraded suit created by his sister and science whiz Shuri. This new suit is soundproof and takes in kinetic energy and stores it for later use, allowing Panther to create large AOE blasts by releasing all of his stored up energy. His new suit is also housed in the necklace he wears around his neck, all it takes is a conscious activation and the suit basically "grows" over T'Challa, taking out the need to change and take his old suit with him everywhere. - (BP)
    • The same goes for his upgraded suit. Shuri explains to her brother that all the bullets that have hit him have charged his suit, so when he jumps on the hood of an SUV and releases that energy, it crushes the hood in on itself and causes the car to flip out of control. - (BP)

With his new AOE blast, T'Challa sends dozens of warriors flying off their feet by punching the ground:

    Claws

Panther's claws easily slice through metal:

    Hand-to-Hand Skill

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Captain America The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War tell Collider that T'Challa is "very well trained" and "trained at the highest levels to fight":

Q: What is his power? Is it the costume? Is it that he’s been training like Jason Bourne?

JOE RUSSO: It’s a combination of everything. Certainly the costume gives him a level of protection and invulnerability because of the material that it’s made of.

ANTHONY RUSSO: Which is vibranium, for non-fans, and it’s the same material that Cap’s shield is made of.

JOE: It can absorb the energy, so it’s much harder to damage him as a character, and you can see that in the movie he can take a lot of punishment including bullets to the face. He is very well trained. He’s from one of the wealthiest countries on the planet, so there’s great infrastructure there; very technologically advanced country. So he’s been trained at the highest levels to fight, but he also has his own superpowers, which derive from the mythology of his nation. Those will be explored more in Black Panther, it’s clearly evident when he’s able to fight the Winter Soldier out of costume, and go toe-to-toe with him, that he is an enhanced individual.

Director Ryan Coogler says that T'Challa fights like an "African king" and that all the attention in the room would be on him and shot a certain scene in the movie in a particular way to convey to the audience that, like in the comics, Wakandans are all really skilled at fighting and that you don't want to fight any of them:

"In my mind, I saw Wakandans as a noble people, an ancient people, but in the comics, they’ve always been people who can fight really, really good. They’re incredibly dangerous. In all of them, that’s one thing that’s consistent. You don’t want to fight a Wakandan, whether it’s T’Challa, whether it’s any of them.

The casino scene, for me, was about Wakanda’s trying to hide. They’re trying to blend in. They’re trying their best not to make a scene, and eventually, they just can’t hold it in anymore. So I wanted each one of those three characters, they way that they fought to be different, and to be equally impressive.

T’Challa is a super-powered guy who fights like a king, like an African king, and has super strength and is doing these powerful things, and everybody’s attention is probably on him. They’re trying to jump him, you know?"

(Marvel's Black Panther Prelude #01) Although only having donned the armor for a week at the time, King T'Chaka tells T'Challa that it's as if he'd been the Black Panther for a lifetime:

    No Caption Provided

(Marvel's Black Panther Prelude #02) Okoye tells King T'Chaka that T'Challa proved himself highly effective in the field as the Black Panther, and this is coming from one of the Dora Milaje, Wakanda's special forces:

Panther kicks Bucky twice before the latter can react, defends against Bucky's attacks, lands another kick to his face this time, and then comes flying in to hit him with a knee attack that sends the Winter Soldier flying back strong enough to dent the metal structure he hit:

    No Caption Provided

Panther uses a metal structure to perform a spinning "Superman punch" that breaks Bucky's guard. He then dives at Bucky and flips upside to grab him, pinning him to the ground on his back while Panther was situated in a perfect position to strike at his face with his claws:

    No Caption Provided

Panther nearly breaks Bucky's wrist, rolls and and brings Bucky with him, positions his arm in an awkward position, and then spin kicks him into a wooden crate strong enough to stagger the super soldier:

    No Caption Provided

Panther maneuvers around Bucky and pins his metal arm, then throws the both of them down a flight of stairs:

    No Caption Provided

    • T'Challa showcases his unique fighting style when taking down a few mercenaries, sweeping one's legs out with hie left leg and immediately bringing his right leg over the top to kick down on the man once he lands, diving forward and rolling over his right shoulder while grabbing another man's foot and flipping him, then kicking a man during a backflip to take him out. - (BP)

T'Challa easily defends against and defeats two of Klaw's goons:

    Panther Powers

The Captain America: Civil War Guidebook confirms that Black Panther has superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes:

    No Caption Provided

T'Challa is granted superhuman speed, aglity, strength, and durability from the Panther God, and we learn from the Black Panther movie that these powers are given to him by drinking a heart-shaped herb:

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Captain America The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War tell Collider that T'Challa has superpowers of his own derived from the mythology of his nation and that it's evident he's enhanced when he's able to go toe-to-toe with the Winter Soldier outside of his vibranium suit:

Q: What is his power? Is it the costume? Is it that he’s been training like Jason Bourne?

JOE RUSSO: It’s a combination of everything. Certainly the costume gives him a level of protection and invulnerability because of the material that it’s made of.

Director Ryan Coogler describes the Heart-Shaped Herb as the source of T'Challa's powers, which grants him super strength to fight on par with Captain America and heightened senses. Credit to @jashro44:

“The Heart-Shaped Herb is how Black Panther achieves his powers. He can fight hand-to-hand with Cap, who’s a supersoldier, so he has super strength and heightened instincts that give him his enhanced abilities,” Coogler says. But not just anyone can partake of its powers. “The Heart-Shaped Herb is what Black Panthers over the generations would consume, once they earn the title, which gives them their physical edge.”

Panther is able to expertly maneuver along the walls while being grappled by Bucky's arm and prevent himself from being harmed or falling away until after Bucky kicked him off:

    No Caption Provided

    • T'Challa performs a back flip while kicking the gun of a mercenary up into the air and throwing him off balance. - (BP)
    • T'Challa performs an acrobatic back-flip onto a speeding car. - (BP)
    • T'Challa is able to jump from the top of his car onto the top of a truck while speeding down a highway. Since we don't actually see the feat, though, it could be that Panther jumped all the way over the truck and landed on the hood of the SUV, but it could also be he just climbed to the top of the truck and jumped from there. - (BP)

T'Challa is sent flying off a destroyed car onto the side of a building, runs on the side of the building, and then jumps off and grabs onto Klaw's SUV, ripping the tire out thanks to his claws:

    No Caption Provided

Panther is able to use his claws to keep himself up while he swung around a pole, preventing him from falling down and off a railroad track before gaining a foothold and using it to jump off and attack:

    No Caption Provided

    Speed

(Marvel's Black Panther Prelude #02) Panther jumps in front of a group of civilians in order to protect them from gunfire:

Panther is able to run faster than driving cars, although the cars couldn't have been going more than 30 mph:

    No Caption Provided

Panther dodges Hawkeye's arrows from close range and then catches two in front of his face:

    No Caption Provided

Panther jumps onto Falcon as he is flying:

    No Caption Provided

    Strength

Panther kicks Bucky over a railing and into a wall:

    No Caption Provided

Panther is able to grip Bucky's metal arm around his neck and pull it away:

    No Caption Provided

Panther kicks Bucky hard enough to send him flying a considerable distance and stun him after colliding with a wooden crate:

    No Caption Provided

    • T'Challa throws a man into the side of a jeep hard enough to dent it, then ragdolls three more mercenaries with his strikes, defeating them with one strike each. - (BP)
    • T'Challa flips a man with one arm, grabbing his leg and lifting up to send the man spinning. - (BP)
    • T'Challa throws half of a jeep's door at a mercenary with enough force to send him flipping off his feet, and he did so throwing it behind him with one hand. - (BP)

    T'Challa kicks a man a distance away:

    No Caption Provided

    • T'Challa pulls a sports car on its side in order to help avoid a lines of cars that was blocking his car's path. - (BP)
    • T'Challa jumps forward onto a speeding SUV and uses his claws to scratch a line into the roof and then pull it open so he could look inside. - (BP)
    No Caption Provided

T'Challa throws a spear a fair distance in the air and with enough force to pierce and ultimately take down a Wakandan jet from the looks of it, that's what I'm calling it because I can't remember if the movie gave it a name or not:

    No Caption Provided

    Durability/Endurance

(Marvel's Black Panther Prelude #01) From the Black Panther Prelude comic, T'Challa is shot in the shoulder with a vibranium bullet:

(Marvel's Black Panther Prelude #02) Panther takes two grenades, one in his face and one right in front of him, with the only sign of injury being he was most likely dazed after the first one:

Without his suit, T'Challa survives being thrown back by a large bomb and only receives what appears to be cuts and scratches while his father unfortunately died:

    No Caption Provided

Without his suit, T'Challa takes a punch from Bucky's metal arm in the chest but isn't even hurt or out of breath after. This is impressive because that's the same arm Bucky punched through concrete with:

    No Caption Provided

Here's what Bucky's punch could do to concrete:

    No Caption Provided

Panther is hit square in the back by Captain America's shield but is able to bounce right back up. This is impressive because Cap's shield, after being tossed, has lifted soldiers off the ground as it KO'd them, embedded itself in walls, and even penetrated Ultron's armor:

    No Caption Provided

Here's Cap being able to pierce Ultron's pre-Vibranium body with his shield:

    No Caption Provided

Panther tanks a punch to the chin from the Winter Soldier:

    No Caption Provided

Panther is completely unfazed by two of Hawkeye's exploding arrows going off right in his face:

    No Caption Provided

Panther tanks being thrown through one of those airport terminals that connect the actual airport to the plane after being thrown by Scarlet Witch's Telekinesis:

    No Caption Provided

Panther tanks being kicked away by Captain America. Cap had the strength earlier in the film to send a truck sliding with his kick:

    No Caption Provided

    • T'Challa falls out of his ship and lands hundreds of feet below to attack a convoy and rescue Nakia. - (BP)
    • Without his suit, T'Challa is blasted back by Klau's arm cannon with only what looks like a small dresser as a shield. He is sent flying to the floor below and crashes onto a craps table but takes about 20 seconds to get his bearings and continue outside to chase Klaue. Even Okoye and Nakia who saw the whole thing weren't worried about his well being and knew that he would catch up. - (BP)

Panther falls hundreds of feet onto a railway and recovers the very next instant to dodge an attack from Killmonger:

@havenless: Civil War has been out for months. Lol

The videos I used for the gifs aren't that great though, so I understand if that's how it seems.

I mean out on digital. These scenes are from illegal recordings of the theatrical release. I'm just trying to let you know this is a very public forum, and if they can track your account back to you, minimum fines for possessing bootlegged stuff is in the hundreds of thousands.

@havenless: They're from YouTube...meaning they had to be uploaded on a more public website than CV....

They've actually been up for a while now, so I don't know why making gifs from other videos would put me at risk. Lol

    Appreciate the warning, though.

@thevivas: The civil war guidebook came out today so there is some stuff that can be added:

This is T'challa's bio. It confirms he has super human speed, strength and reflexes. Also its confirmed T'challa's claws "gouged" cap's shield. Also again its confirmed in caps updated bio that T'challa "scored" cap's shield:

    Really cool.

I think you should add him scratching Cap's vibranium shield under the claw category and catching Hawkeye's explosive arrows under his speed category. Also, the part about Cap's shield penetrating Ultron's body is inaccurate. The form wasn't vibranium and he didn't have a vibranium form until later in the film.

@wastelandman: I thought he had his vibranium by that time in the movie?

And yeah I'm planning on addin the claw feat just as soon as I work up the effort to make the gif and whatnot. Lol

He did have vibranium but he hadn't made his vibranium form yet. Actually, Vision was supposed to be his new vibranium form but after the Avengers stole it he used the remaining vibranuim to make another form which you can see compared to his non-vibranium form (his vibranium form being on the right):

I mean, Cap's shield cutting into his base form is still impressive.

@thevivas: Huge update. Great job. Not gonna look everything tho, in fear of spoilers.

Kinda surprised you're not including his cut clean bullet timing feat from the same tie in.

@anthp2000: Tbh when I looked at the feat in your Hawkeye RT that’s what I thought he did, but when I looked at it again when reading it, it doesn’t really look like he cut it. The comic’s art makes it a little difficult to discern what’s happening sometimes or how the events happened between panels imo.

After Civil War and this he's definitely becoming one of my favorite heroes. He's just such a cool character.

@thevivas: This quote from Ryan Coogler might be worthy of note for now until the clip in the movie of T'chaka explaining what the heart shaped herb does is released:

“The Heart-Shaped Herb is how Black Panther achieves his powers. He can fight hand-to-hand with Cap, who’s a supersoldier, so he has super strength and heightened instincts that give him his enhanced abilities,” Coogler says. But not just anyone can partake of its powers. “The Heart-Shaped Herb is what Black Panthers over the generations would consume, once they earn the title, which gives them their physical edge.”

    http://ew.com/movies/black-panther-trailer-decoded-marvel-ryan-coogler-kevin-feige/black-panther-trailer-14/

It makes note of both super strength and also his heightened instincts. Plus mentions he can go hand to hand with captain america.

    EDIT:

Also not sure if you want to include it or wait for the movie to come out here is a showing of his kinetic blasts where T'challa sends multiple Wakandains flying even through there energy shields:

@jashro44: Damn, nice catch. I’ve been reading and watching a lot of interviews but couldn’t find anything about that yet.

And nice gif, I thought about taking out the one I made and including the longer version like you have but I had to head out to work. I’ll add that in tomorrow after I watch the movie again.

@thanosii: Yeah that and the spear throw were crazy. I doubt they’ll be out anytime soon though.
