Title says it all. Which style of storytelling do you prefer?

Manga by a country mile. Manga arcs do not involve convoluted crossovers between several different titles. They kind of force you to follow other titles and events to understand the bigger plot and it just makes for a confusing experience and a headache. Nevermind the constant changes in art due to various creative teams working on it. Manga arc is simply one linear story carried out in one book by the same artist

Usually if you like the writing so far, any new arc should be as enjoyable. With events, is more all over the place due to different writers, trying to connect different characters that they know nothing about, and etc. It can be great, but for the most part it just suck.

Manga Arcs. Western comic events are known for being pretty bad a majority of the time, and the different writers and versions of characters across events doesn't help the situation. On the other hand, arcs in manga usually follow a single group of familiar characters penned under a single author, making them much more concise and easy to follow.

agreed

I think it's kind of unfair to really make the comparison. I'm not going to say much that others haven't already said. In a manga arc, you'll get one writer handling everything. He is dictating where he wants his characters to go, setting, what type of story he's telling, and how they will all fall in one season so to speak. With at least the big comic events, you most of the time will have a main writer handling a bunch of different characters that are already created with lately subpar storytelling and a bunch of outside issues from various other writers that need to be read to understand some of the finer points. Also, with some of the tie-ins, a lot of times they could also be better than the main story being told.

It's kind of like giving a single kid a sandbox vs a bunch of kids with a toy box. The sandbox kid is by himself and he has free reign to do whatever he wants. The toy box group has things already made and now have to each put their own takes into telling a cohesive story. Either or can be good or bad.

This feels like bait.

Manga arcs shouldn't be compared to events, there's little similarity. They should be compared to Comic arcs. That makes sense.

Comic Events are more similar to the Manga crossover specials like Dream 9 Toriko & One Piece & Dragon Ball Z Super Collaboration Special in which case yea the storytelling gets screwed up from multiple different properties having to be strung together to make something work as a plot. Naturally characters act odd or some inconsistency happens because yea this isn't the best winning formula. When it works, cool. When it doesn't well yea what'd you expect?

By the same token, manga are bad majority of the time. Even magi ended up mediocre

That comes down to opinion. There hundreds, if not thousands of different manga out there, covering a variety of genres

Magi by itself outclasses any western comic ever made in nearly every category.

You're tastes are that of a peasant if you honestly think this way.

@jashugan: All of those bar Berserk and Akira are utter garbage. Try again.

yes yes you are very smart.
