It’s up for a adapted screenplay. I think the only other Oscar-nominated CBM this year is GotG vol 2 for visual effects.
Logan is now an Oscar-nominated movie
Sucks that FOX was bought by Disney which mean the X-Men movies are going tto be totally diffferent now.
Which means this might be the only time a X-Men movie will ever be oscar worthy
Undeserved, IMO. It was a mediocre screenplay.

Disagree. It's a movie focused on character and Logan's lifestyle, not yet another end-of-the-world scenario. I think it was a great way to end his story, especially because it wasn't focused on trying to sell you on whatever comes next, too.

That doesn't make it a good screenplay. With that logic, Baywatch is deserving of an Oscar because it isn't an end-of-the-world scenario.

Obviously, I think the way it handles the focus on character is good.
Well deserved as far as I'm concerned.
Amen.

I disagree. I thought the parental relationship which is supposed to be the core of the film wasn't investing, Laura as a character was thinly written, the third-act was awful and belonged in a different movie, the symbolism was as subtle as an adamantium bullet, the deus ex machina was terrible, the scene instead the research facility with the Mexican lady filming everything was just cringe-worthy, there were a handful of contrived moments, and there was nothing remarkable to me about the ways it handled it's themes. Seemed like pretty generic character drama and characterisation, with the exception of an out of place clone. It's a good more for sure, but that comes down more to the excellent performances, direction, music and action than the screenplay.
Well deserved as far as I'm concerned.
Amen.
I'm not too familiar with cinematography terms; what exactly is "screenplay"?
Screenplay is the script.
P.S. cinematography is the way a movie looks/is shot. You probably don't want to use it in this situation :)
I'm happy for the cast and crew of Logan, but honestly the Oscars have never been a metric for a good CBM to me. The Academy just isn't interested in superhero movies, and that's fine, but whether a CBM wins an Oscar or not honestly means jack to me. Suicide Squad is technically an Oscar winner, after all. Or perhaps I'm simply still salty about how they overlooked The Dark Knight for Slumdog Millionaire, a movie that no one remembers.

I only agree with the third act not being strong as the earlier material and it being silly that the nurse could blatantly film so much in the facility.
How does everyone feel about Wonder Woman not receiving any nominations? I know there was a big push for that.
I loved that movie, but it didn't really excel at anything (not that the Oscars really care, but whatever). Honestly, I'm more mad that Blade Runner 2049 didn't get the recognition it deserved. That movie was a masterpiece.
@theamazingspidey: I see, thanks! Well as I said, not good with film terms haha :P

No problem man! xD
It’s great for recognition for the genre/medium of cbm’s I guess, but I’m not a fan of “the academy” and whatever the Hell their weird/sketchy a$$ process is of what gets nominated and what doesn’t for any film let alone the cbm medium. I really liked LOGAN and thought it was great with or without any nominations, I think it was head of it’s class for what we got last year....good for people that worked hard on the film I say
"s bought by Disney which mean the X-Men movies are going tto be totally diffferent now.

Except for the part where Marvel is launching a new R rated label to keep this trend going. And confirmed Deadpool and like films will remain R-rated.
Random MCU hate is so last year. Get over it.
@frozen: the media never pushed for WW to get a Oscar. That campaign was started by WB. Just like all the rest of the overhyping.
It saved the whole DCCU from going negative at the B.O.
It probably won't win but this is still cool.
Also, if WW got nominated I would be very disappointed.
@generalbeastgod: There were a slew of articles calling for a Best Picture nod and there's articles now claiming it was snubbed.
Most critics and audiences knew it wasn't really deserving of a major Oscar nod though. Its no Dark Knight.
*sigh* now with Disney owning the X-men there will never be another X-men/Wolverine film of this caliber. Say hello to Wacky Wolverine completely devoid of anything meaningful.
Have no problem with that. Most of the movies that are nominated are cleverly pretentious oscar baits anyway
I rly liked Logan, but that is absolutely undeserved(at least if the Oscars would still mean something).
The MCU will never catch up to DCEU and their Oscar winning Suicide Squad.
Guardians Vol. 2 got a nomination for Visual effects. It's possible it wins though I would doubt it.

I think it's a severely mediocre, but entertaining movie, so I'm glad it's not getting nominated.
@rbt: no it didn't give up. The Oscars shut them out. And thank god cuz it's the most overhyped movie of all time.
WB overhyped it because they predicted JL would fail. Add that to the overall low B.O.s of the other DCCU films and the whole DCCU was about to flop.
Overhyping WW saved the DCCU. Buts it's a bad movie. Period.
@theacidskull: Agreed.
@itsmeagain: A lot of the movies on this year's slate were terrific films.
Well deserved as far as I'm concerned.
Amen.

Do you genuinely have nothing better to do that complain about the DC movies everyday and how you think they don't deserve any credit or money? Seriously, almost every time I see you in a thread it's almost always the same thing. "JL was a flop. Wonder Woman only made a profit because of overhype. Ben Affleck should feel bad for checking himself into rehab. Box office, box office box office."
I can understand liking the MCU more than DC but I question why you constantly bring up something that you hate or why you'd go actively looking for opportunities to moan about how terrible you think the movies are.
