Haven't you already made a post for this?
That was for the BAFTAs (British equivalent of the Oscars)
@scholomance: How many noms did Endgame received?
@scholomance: How many noms did Endgame received?
One, for VFX. I think that's deserving.
I'm very glad. But it's very disappointing how The Lighthouse, Uncut Gems, Rocketman and The Farewell were all largely overlooked.
Lighthouse solos every film at the Oscars.
Parasite and 1917>Joker in terms of best picture
Phoenix deserves best actor though.
The fact that Joker got nominated for best Director, Best picture, Best screenplay is a f##king Joke while movies like Uncut Gems, Lighthouse, Little Woman were snubbed for nomination
A lot of snubs this year. Really surprised Uncut Gems got no love whatsoever.
11 nominations means Joker probably won't go home empty handed but it's facing stiff competition in every category. It might go 1 or 2 for 11. I wouldn't be surprised at all if 1917 takes home a bunch of awards.
I just went through all the nominations of Oscars and I must say that they have nominated very few films, which is somewhat disappointing. Lighthouse, Doctor Sleep all of these films deserve nominations.
Amazing and well deserved.
As much as I want Joker, Irishman and OUATIH to win the most awards, we all know the predictable boring war film is gonna dominate. Oscars sure love a war film.

To be real tho, I don't think Joker will win those categories, the best bets are: actor, original score & cinematography.

@scholomance: I know but a nomination is still a big deal especially the other movies would have benefited from it.
@tobeymaguire84: Huh? A film about rich and privileged teenage girls is better than Joker?

In Direction and screenplay yes
Let’s not forget that having a high number of nominations does not mean there will be a lot of wins for the movie:
The Turning Point (1977) 11 noms 0 wins
The Color Purple (1985) 11 noms 0 wins
Lincoln (2012) 12 noms 2 wins
Reds (1981) 12 noms 3 wins
The Revenant (2915) 12 noms 3 wins
Benjamin Button (2008) 13 noms 3 wins
The Shape of Water (2017) 13 noms 4 wins [includes Best Picture]
Lord of the Rings Fellowship (2001) 13 noms 4 wins
The Kings Speech (2012) 12 noms 4 wins
Most of the time the picture with the most nominations wins about half, give or take one, however in equally rare occasions as not winning any the movie will take home the majority of its Oscars. Titanic (1997) was nominated for 14 and received 11 of the statues. Back in 1959, Ben Hur was nominated for 12 and won 11.
@tobeymaguire84: @wolverinebatmanftw:
Maybe uncut gems should get a nom, but it came out at Christmas, movies that come out in December in general almost never get a nom
Aquaman didn't get any for effects or makeup despite their amazing work in those fields
It just came out too late in the year, no matter how good uncut gems is, it's release date guaranteed that it would be missed by the Oscars
@mrnoital: 1917 just came out and it's gotten a ton of nominations. I think it's just a straight up snub. Plus Uncut Gems has been on the festival circuit since September.

Studios sent DVD of their movies to Academy members way before its theatrical release especially for Oscar focusesd movies like uncut gem and not just that academy now streams movies for academy members. https://www.indiewire.com/2019/10/new-academy-president-david-rubin-oscars-streaming-1202179517/
Also 1917 came out in December just like uncut Gem.
@tobeymaguire84: 1917 came out at the beginning of the month, uncut gems came out last week of the year during holidays, big difference
Lol accurate if Endgame ever had any chance of winning an Oscar.
My predictions
Joker keeps on winning.

Also, Lotr ROTK went 11 for 11
@rdskns4eva: That's great.
Has that ever happened for another film besides Return of the King?
@lvenger: The only chance was RDJ
I just hope Phoenix wins the best actor and Once upon blah blah doesn't win a thing though I don't care about Oscars.
Ooft, why are you shitting on my man Tarantino?
@infantfinite128: nope. It’s the gold standard for nom/wins.
Even if it fails to wins anything, the fact that it got nominated for 4 of the big 5 categories is ridiculous.
@rdskns4eva: That's fantastic. Thanks.
@lvenger: The only chance was RDJ
He never had a chance though.

I am glad Joker got so many noms. It honestly deserved them imo. Oh for the people that say todd phillips doesn't deserve to be nominated, he absolutely does. Great movies don't direct themselves.
I think there's a bit of campaigning and favoritism involved here. I honestly don't think Joker deserves all these nominations and this is coming from a hardcore DC stan.
Joker was great by comicbook movie standards but let's get real here, there were a lot of phenomenal movies with phenomenal acting released. Favouritism and mass popularity shouldn't influence recognition. Unfortunately that has been happening in the Academy Awards for quite some time now. Happened to Black Panther too.
I think Joker will win at most 3 awards and that is still a lot if you're being fair and objective. Best Actor, Cinematography and probably Original score. Comicbook movies haven't reached that level yet. There are sparks every now and then but mainstream cinema is mainstream cinema.
DC's hypothetical real-life adaptation peak performance is and will always be way above Marvel, Warner pretty much nailed it.
The Joker earned all those awards despite the Joker was an R-Movie and despite it attacked Neo-liberal and leftist elites in Hollywood, The Joker not only did that, but it got away with 11 Oscars, with all their power, they couldn't do anything but see how they got wrecked by true factual quality, an irrefutable fact that they cannot oppose, despite all the hate over their faces, while feeling despair and overwhelmed by a titanic presence they never saw before, submerged in trash and a miserable quality they had to rate or qualify for more than 10 years of pettiness.
