We all know he has weaknesses, but his action is always top notch. We live in a time of heavy CGI and I think he executes action the best. DCEU Kryptonians are badass and whether or not you liked Man of Steel you have to admit the Smallville fight was one of the best we’ve seen in a CBM from a spectacle standpoint. His direction lets you know how fast and strong his characters are.

The kryptonian ragdoll physics are terrible. Dont really see why people say MOS and BvS had great action besides the destruction porn

The Russos crush Snyder. Raimi's spiderman 2 had better action than all of man of steel. Daredevil seasons 1-3 had better action, and so did Punisher season 2.

Yes. Warehouse scene is my favourite. Then you have the Trinity fight, Batman v. Superman and the two fights in MoS.

Are they different from the battles in the theatrical version?

I think he’s the best when it comes to demonstrating high tiers power levels. But He’s overshadowed by the Russos when it comes to street level action, action with multiple characters of different power levels and battles using versatile powers. He’d never come close to the airport battle, or final fight scene in EG. And Dr Strange vs Thanos on Titan beats any of Snyder’s fight scenes.

@samjackson: yeah. The battle between Superman and League is during night, the military is involved, Flash and superman had policemen shooting at them during their fight, Flash uses his abilities more in battle, wonder woman kills SW, Superman was more involved in the final battle. It's just a totally different movie from what we got.

Where’d you see this? Was it leaked online somewhere?

Yep, he's the best at high tier fights, hell his warehouse fight shits on all MCU fight scenes, the watchmen fights were also top notch. MCU fight scenes are bugged down by the amount of unnecessary cuts involved in their fights and the one by one nature of the fodder

I'm hardly informed enough, but his action sequences are certainly top tier IMO. Smallville fight is one of my favorite cbm fights and he's demonstrated good street tier sequences as well.

Nope.

Highway fight from Winter Soldier is better than anything he's done. BVS Warehouse fight comes very close though.

I don't like his high-tier fights.

The Russo's are better.

Man of Steel had some visually amazing action, but he dropped the ball in the following movies (besides the Warehouse sequence).

James Wan also doesn't get enough credit.

His work in MoS is undoubtedly the best portrayal of high-tier fights we have ever seen on the big screen. Anyone who's not a blind hater can see that. Also, I legitimately lost some brain cells seeing some people comparing MoS to Winter Soldier in terms of fight-scenes. It's like comparing apple with Chinese food.

Only one movie of his CBM filmography had truly great action and that was Man of Steel. However, even the scenes in that movie get blown away by the choreography in the Russo's movies.

Oh please, we all know Thor fans secretly wish he did the action for him. 😁 I know I would LOVE that.

When it comes to high tier, this isn't even a question. Crap, the Warehouse takedown is also the top street level scene to me, but I could see Winter Soldier and Daredevil being considered around the same level.

He's one of the best directors due Man of Steel, a movie that has god tier level flying fights and battles that destroyed cities, containing some of the best action set pieces yet seen in film. No DC or Marvel movie have a fight comparable to the battle of Metropolis. It was the first time we saw DBZ level action in CBMs.

Yes definitely, I think he’s at the top of the top along with the Russo Brothers.

Taika Watiti and James Wan were very, very impressive with the action scenes they had in Thor: Rag and AM. Joss Whedon also does amazing Team v Fodder action and his Hulk v Hulkbuster battle was fantastic. I feel like Marc Webb’s Spider-Man movies for as wtv as they were had really great Spider-Man Action.

People actually like the Russo's fight scenes????? Airport battle is actually embarrassing in terms of power levels, Iron Man letting Cap land so many hits, BP taking forever to put down hawkeye and many other inconsistent moments. Don't get me started on Winter Soldiers awful shaky cam and quick cuts, I blame the Bourne films for making that style popular ( I seriously don't understand the love for it) . Although I'll give them credit they corrected a lot mistakes in Infinity War and Endgame they still had too many bad moments in both films to put them on Snyder's level.

In terms of choreography, editing and cinematography Snyder is unmatched in fight scenes in cbm's, people forget he also directed 300 & Watchmen. (Jame's Gunn is probably the closest to him).

Iron Man definitely seemed physically weaker in that movie. But what about everyone else? Ant Man was used great and got a buff. I like the scene where he throws a truck at War Machine who uses his turrets to literally atomize the thing, that was hardcore. Spider-Man was used great, there is an awesome shot of him crawling on a wall fast while tracking Falcon. Like you mentioned, Captain America was VERY powerful. He beat up Iron Man, which isn’t good for Iron Man but it’s great for Cap. Vision was good in his few moments but he was MIA for a lot of the battle which sucks. And Hawkeye’s performance against BP is pretty fair, BP was still powerful because he was quick timing arrows like a badass.

I fail to see how its anywhere near the Attack on Titan during infinity war. Take away the visuals of HV and all the explosions what is legitimately impressive about the scene in question ? Theres no skill , no counters , it's just 2 dudes punching each other with cgi youd see in a ps3 game

You don't look close enough then, there are a bunch of instances where they were countering each other's attacks. You probably just remember that specific part where Superman was punching Zod repeatedly. Admittedly, they're not that notable but that's how I imagine high-tier fights are supposed to be. Skill matters in this tier but it shouldn't matter the way it does in street level fights. Adding street fight choreography will make the fight look street level. Look at Thanos vs Hulk, 2 of the most physically imposing fighters in MCU had a brawl and it really looked like they were street level. I don't want that. Snyder's approach is exactly what I wanted from high-tier fight scenes.

I'm not talking about simple punches back and forth. You mean in smallville ? I'm talking about the end fight. Did you not watch wonder woman ? Thor Ragnarok? Aquaman ? Skill can be shown effectively. To me the attack on Titan had everything. Skill smarts and the highest level of power displayed between 2 people

They did enough. Reversing each other's momentum, catching/parrying each other's punches. People that you mentioned are a bunch of mid tiers anyways. They can't fly and they certainly can't fight as fast as Kryptonians. You're not gonna do fancy moves while you're in mid-air, traveling at supersonic to hypersonic speed. I just don't see it that way. I also never expected Superman to fight like a warrior since he's just a farm boy in the end.

Snyder has done incredible street tier fight scenes, but the point is, he doesn't think high-tier fights would go down the way it's portrayed in MCU. And I'm with him 100%. His portrayal makes perfect sense to me.

I disagree with the "highest level of power displayed" part. I think the Russos suck at doing that.

This why I like that DCEU Wonder Woman can't fly. It really helps her shine as a trained warrior goddess rather than just another bricking.
