Maybe even the reader? I was thinking about this when I was thinking about Rorschach's parts in Watchmen before his identity was revealed. I especially love his first person parts. Erm uh anyway, are there any comic books that fits this description?

TheJoker comic book? And this thread applies to villains too. I just said Hero because...it's the only thing that fits into the title...

The comic Shadowhawk written by Jim Valentino in the 90's was based around that idea.

It wasn't even revealed to the reader until late in the series and then someone else took up the mantle.

Taskmaster. His true face has never been revealed nor has his identity.

I don't think they ever showed Judge Dredd out of costume.

Technically Wolverine used to be... but back then even he didn't know his own real name :p

I miss that silly mystery element to the X-Men, where half the characters only had codenames because they had secret identities or amnesia or no background & Claremont was making it up as he went along... ;)

Apollo's identity remains unknown, even to himself. Not sure if you can call it a secret identity, since he obviously doesn't use it, but no one knows it.

The closest I can think of...off the top of my head...is The Maxx...but I think he's just The Maxx and that's it.  Never read the comics, only watched the show on Liquid Television.

@jakob187: He was a homeless guy called Dave who Julie Winters accidentally hit with her car... I think.  The Maxx gets very strange, so sometimes it's hard to remember it correctly.

No one in the Savage Dragon's world knows where he's from or who he is.

Damn really?! I thought they'd answer that after the Vicious Circle arc (where I stopped) Sheesh, I guess there was no answers.

Anything good with him in it? I actually never seen him. I just hear people talk about him here.

@gunswordfist:
No, Savage Dragon's origin was given only to the fans in a comic.

The people in Savage Dragon's world don't know anything about his otherworldly deliverance.

The readers know Magneto's real name (it was just revealed last year), but no one in the M.U. does.
