Poll Is the MCU king of great comic villains?? (92 votes)

Yes 27%
No 73%

Amount of films per great villains:

MCU 19 movies. Great villains:

1. Abomination

2. Loki

3. Alexander Pierce

4. Winter Soilder(temporarily)

5. Zemo

6. Ego

7. Vulture

8. Hela

9. Killmonger

10. Thanos

11. Killgrave

12. Wilson Fisk

13. Cottonmouth

I know the last three are TV but they are technically MCU villains. And they rival any of the movie villains.

DCEU movies 5. DC films 12. Great villains:

1. Joker(Ledger, Nicholson)

2. Old Zod

3. Ra's al Ghul

X-Men movies 10. Great villains:

1. Magneto

2. Sebastian Shaw

3. Ajax

Sony Spider-man movies 5. Great villains:

1. Doc Ock

All FOX's FF villains were a joke. The old Batman villains are jokes besides the Joker. GL villain was a joke.

Does the MCU have the most great villains of all comic franchises?

The nolan verse is the king. But between mcu and dceu, Mcu edges out dceu for sure. However i think micheal shannon as zod is my favorite villain performance out of both the mcu and dceu.

Not really.

Most MCU villains lack any depth and personality. I personally think Loki was a better villain than Thanos.

Also, your list is lacking many villains.

Like Two Face, Scarecrow, Bane (wasn't as bad as many believe. Certainly better than many other live action villains), Shannon's Zod was also great, Stryker (X-2), Bolivar Trask was not bad either.

Alexander Pierce was bad imo. Also Abomination (Blonsky was good, but then it's meh when he becomes abomination), Killmonger is probably one of the worst in your list.

@bruceveidt: I agree about Two face. Add him to the DC list of great villains. I can't go back and fix polls or I would add TF.

I disagree about Kilmonger for obvious reasons.

On average yes, but when it comes down to solo performances, then nothing (so far) has come close to surpassing Heath Ledger's joker.

LMAO @ THIS IDEA.

Seriously the MCU has like 5 villains that could be considered good.

OK first off, you're talking about "comic villains" which the DC Comics in general stomps. In movies.....they still kind of win

Heath Ledger Joker

Liam Neeson Ra's Al Ghul

Tom Hardy Bane

Aaron Eckhart Two-Face

Aside from TDK Trilogy, there are both adaptions of General Zod (Stamp and Shannon did it perfectly), Danny Devito's Penguin, Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor, Matthew Goode's Ozymandias and Jack Nicholson's Joker.

I never will understand the Heath Ledger hype.

Just because he licked his lips like a post office worker and made weird facial movements and wanted to kill people makes him the greatest villain?

He didn't give a f*ck about anything? Well so didn't Thanos.

no way. one of the MCU weaknesses is villains imo. there's been some great CBM villains over the years and not many belong to MCU. Dark knight trilogy, x-men series, batman returns, sin city, watchmen, hellboy, v for vendetta, 300, dredd etc.

I can only speak for myself, but I while I didn't think he was bad, I do think some of the problems with Zemo are:

1. He is NOTHING like his comic counterpart.

2. His purpose in his film was to turn the Avengers against each other, which he did great at, I'm not denying that. But he himself is not really the focus of any big conflict, be it physical or philosophical. The two sides of the registration act are. His presence in the film is quite small, all things considered. While every other movie villain is right at the center of the film's main conflicts and issues, Zemo is adjacent to it, just helping nudge others towards those conflicts. Mind you, I don't think this makes him a bad villain at all, but his memorability as a villain is not that strong.

None of this breaks the movie for me, of course. Heck, until possibly IW2, Civil War is still probably my favorite MCU movie overall.

To me the best villians are the ones that feel like they're doing the wrong things for the right reasons, characters like brainwashed Obito (the combination of what happened to make him get to that place of darkness and the things he did are just insane) and Madara stomp 95% of villians I've ever seen in my life

And yeah MCU Thanos fits that description but he doesn't make it to the best of all time list even though the 616 version is one of my favourite comic book characters

He does make it into the CBM list though along with Killmonger, Ultron and Vulture

So yeah I guess MCU are the kings with Joker and DCEU Zod (his speech to Superman after he destroyed the World Engine is one of the greatest I've heard, up there with Sasukes speech to Kakashi when he was bloodlusted) being honourable mentions, there's no king actually, the MCU have just had more movies and more villians, and given enough time, even a broken clock is right twice a day

@captainsweatpan:

MCU Thanos is more like doing a pretty stupid thing for a very pointless reason.

He is a poorly written character.

His character is pretentiously edgy and his exaggerated melodramatic actings are cringy (once you realize that his motivation, plot, and plan are stupid and pointless).

About Comic Thanos, well he typically deals with high tier cosmic characters, so his strength is not his most remarkable traits since super strength is dime a dozen in cosmic playing field.

It is his intelligence that is his more defining characteristic

Personally, I would say that Comic Thanos is more confident than arrogant.

He respect his enemies powers and potentials that's why he usually have layers of contingencies and back-up plans.

His demonstrations of "arrogance" are more like bluffs and half-truths to disctract his enemies (and allies) from his real intentions.

Though often times his arrogance is part of his humurous sarcastic character trait specially when he interacts with Pip the Troll.

Half of the mcu villains you listed aren’t even good, let alone great. They have better villains by the numbers, but on average not really.

@mimisalome: 616 Thanos spanks high tier heros like MCU Thanos spanked high tiers, if you think MCU Thanos is strong then so is 616 Thanos, I'd say MCU Thanos and 616 are both arrogant
