Imagine laying on a bench and somebody places a 300 lbs weight in your hands. You can probably hold this weight up and slow it’s descent towards your throat if you are struggling for your very life or the lives of those around you. But the weight is inevitably falling slowly, then right before it reaches your throat, somebody else lifts it off. Would that mean you can bench 300 lbs? Not even close.
Peter was struggling for his very life/the lives of those around him, and he still could not stop this building from falling, he just held onto it and slowed it down.
