i do it. alphabetical by series then chronological. oh god im a dork of potsy like proportions.

I have a friend who's been collecting for over 30 years. He has easily 100 long boxes of comics. He never organized them according to title or chronological order. Now he has tons of valuable silver age books but can't find 90% of them and his collection is so massive it would take days to organize. Don't make the same mistake he did.

So basically (Eight, Five, Four, Nine, Seven, Six, Three, Two) foot categories (unless someone is freakishly tall or short) then (eight, eleven, five, four, nine, one, seven, six, three, ten, twelve, two, zero) inches under that, so you'd have: ... three feet zero inches, four feet eight inches, four feet eleven inches, four feet five inches ...

and remember 4 feet 3.5 inches comes before 4 feet 3.2 inches, so it can get tricky. I suspect if you did it metric wise, you would be in a different order

How I sort my comics: Vertigo or non-Vertigo (with titles partially in Vertigo like Sandman all in Vertigo), then alphabetically, then by issue number (not chronologically, because I stick issue #0, 1/2, [infinity], etc. by number, not date of publication). I stick annuals at the end of that title. An exception though, is if the comic is too big, then I have a magazine sized box (I have Savage Sword of Conans) and some are too big for that, so I put them at the bottom of my book shelf.
