The whole series revolves around some big threat showing up, Goku getting beaten, training, and coming back stronger to beat said threat. Repeated over and over again with little variation. Of course the fans are obsessed with how powerful people in the series are, that's the entire point.

Yes, but that's because the show revolves around power. That's really the only interesting aspect of the story and characters. So of course fans are going to take one of the most powerful characters from the series and demand that he win against nearly everyone else.

Dragon ball from storyline perspective is a lazy show. The show has repeated themes of bad guys shows up and beats everyone. Good guys train to get stronger than him. Good guys win. Rinse repeat. And to add a nail to the coffin, there are magical balls that fixes everything so no complex story of the aftermath of the battle or loss of a character is explored; plus you got an angel that can reverse time to fix what the dragon balls cannot.

Not to hate, but I don't get the hype. His character's hella boring and he falls flat compared to a lot of other shounen characters imo. In terms of power, he's definitely not overrated, he is undoubtedly incredibly powerful, but it's meaningless to me when the show and characters put me to sleep. I think he's overrated beyond belief.

Maybe powerwise by fans, definitely not character wise. For him to be overrated people would have to actually view his character as way better than it really is, which no one really overrates as far as I’ve seen.
