Is Black Panther (2018) overrated?
It got too political. I wasn't a big fan of that. The movie takes too long to take off, and it wasn't as engaging as I was expected.
nah because most of the people who are saying its the best only saw it as some political shit and dont even care that its a comic book movie anyway
so u shouldnt value their opinion
Nah.
I stand by the firm belief that nothing is overrated or underrated (with some exceptions of course). If a movie does really good and makes bank at the box office, well it did something right. If a movie doesn't do good at the box office or get many good reviews (or any at all) it did something (whatever that "something " may be such marketing, timing, competition etc) wrong. Everything happens for a reason it is what it is.
By critics yes. By fans from what I've seen on comicvine and youtube reviews I think it is fairly rated. Most see it as an excellent movie but not on the level of the dark knight for example.
@tj849 How about you find your own niche and stop aping off of ganon and matches'? We don't need three of you.
By critics. Yeah definitely.
Even viewers are acting as if its some never seen before movie. It's just good not exceptional in any way. There are many CBMs better than it. Maybe it's because it's the first genuinely good MCU movie after like 3-4 years. GotG was the last complete MCU movie. But it's definitely overrated. I'd say it's about as good as Iron Man or maybe slightly better than it. TWS and GotG are still the MCU top dogs by a mile.
Around my circle and the circle of critics/reviewers I follow, I would say that it has been fairly rated. I don't think it is being overblown since I do not hear people saying that it one of the best movies ever but that it is in the upper echelon of MCU movies which I agree with.
I think a large majority of the hype behind it has to do with other aspects and maybe not for the film as a whole such as the production design, score and especially all the amazing supporting characters the film established. In this sense I think it very much lives up to the hype.
Comicvine Overrated: I don’t like this thing and you shouldn’t like it either....
Yes. I loved the movie and all, but it's not the masterpiece that people are saying it is. I mean, Rotten Tomatoes just named it the best movie ever made.

@mrmonster: @tj849: That doesn’t mean it’s the greatest of all time...that means it’s the most universally liked by RT critics of all time.

Didn't we have the same thing with Wonder Woman? Some websites even said it's the best superhero movie. I wouldn't mind promotions like these if it leads to more minority movies because it's commonly thought that people don't want to see minorities in movies, especially Asians which is why almost all the lead Asian roles got changed to Whites, but they don't have to make it so blatant.

It isn't overrated to me it's better than Captain America. I guess you can say people think it's overrated because a lot of black people are supporting this movie and one thing I learned is when so many black people support something there's always a group of nay sayers that are against it.
It's overrated in the same way that most movies people look forward to tend to get a bit overhyped these days. Wonder Woman and Black Panther I believe are two of the best examples of this. People have wanted good WW and BP movies for years, especially because we rarely if ever get female and black lead superhero films (that are not also rated R). So when both movies did turn out good, naturally people got a little carried away in their excitement.
It's overhyped, but not in a bad way. It's simply people being happy and excited that they've finally gotten something they've always wanted.
And honestly, given how long it took for the studios to finally make Wonder Woman and Black Panther, I can see why the fans are being so vocal about how much they like it. They're basically making sure that the studio finally understand "Hey, movies with black and female leads DO make money and get critical praise! We should make more movies like them!"
No. It's one of the best MCU movies.
