No, Eobard is just a massive snobby dummy, who does what every Super-villain does. He underestimates Batman because of his lack of powers.

Yes, massive PIS. But that's basically impossible to avoid with speedsters. Though this does really bother me, they could have handled that better.

On one hand, we all know RF could obliterate Batman in far less than a minute if he really wanted to.

On the other hand, villains gotta villain, a.k.a. get incredibly arrogant and downplay their enemies. It's not like Batman stood a chance anyway - I think the issue makes that very clear and it even shows that RF was having fun pummeling him.

Because he is Batman, he can punch any speedster he wants.

This. Plus, he's batman so that explains why he could tag him.

Bruh if we did this then most encounters between villains vs heroes are PIS. Loved the issue.

If you actually go in context you can simply notice that Thawne was playing with Batman the whole time and he wasn't really going all out on him.

Typical super villain tactic: Could destroy the hero (especially when it comes to Batman) but nope. Gets lost in his or her's own arrogance just in time for the hero to land one hit.

This is something very common with Reverse Flash (Thawne), he becomes way to arrogant in his abilities and skills until someone gets the better of him, and it doesn't have to be the Flash!

Pretty sure it was because Bruce stabbed thawne in the foot with the glass.

Actually Batman did pretty well in fighting Reverse Flash so I don't see what the problem here. If anyone read the story you see how Batman was able to tag him.

I totally get that but it still doesn't make any sense to me. Thawne's reaction time is in the attosecond range(he would naturally scale to Barry). Batman and time would be effectively frozen from his prospective. Underestimating batman or no, he should have been able to avoid that punch. It would have been more sense if the writer had Thawne turn his back before Batman punched him.

Also am i the only one who saw them refer to thawne's phasing as a blur? Am I missing something? Is that common?

Reverse Flash is only toying with Bruce. Also, being stabbed in the foot takes away a significant portion of your speed. Still a great durability feat for Bats however

Batman should have been dead 60 times over in this issue.

it took 58 seconds actually.

Read the comic. If he wanted Batman dead he would be dead already. There is a scan showing him get 6 times in one second which is slow for him. Just playing with Bruce.

Not PIS, he was just played with Batman a little too long, and this was after he stabbed him.

You know you are talking about a comic book, right? How many times has Batman pulled off stuff like that and he is not the only one. Many superheroes that are powerless have done unbelievable stuff throughout the years in comic books but it's comic books, it's a world where fantasies come true. It would be no fun if King wrote a comic book script of 20 pages in which you just see Batman get demolished by Thawne.

Prior to this, Batman had stabbed RF on the foot when he wasn't looking, which would have slowed him down

yeah but in some of those cases i just chalk it up to him being a minor superhuman.

this is above and beyond ridiculous. Batman should have been puddlized by Eobard here.

I cant believe we are lowballing batman.

Batman is the most powerful being in all universes. No one can even write him off. He is above the one above all and the sentry and basically every single being ever created in comics/liva action/ tv shows/anime/etc

Avatar image for black_arrow

@brucerogersI think that there's no context or excuse for this. I mean Eobard was midly surprise when Batman survived the first attack and when Batman damaged Eobard's foot, Eobard was angry so he stopped playing right there and then. This is no different than the time that King made Batman two shot Grundy:

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

Or the time that Nightwing fought a robot with powers similar to the Justice League (one was speed similar to the Flash):

King just loves to write OP street levelers.
