Brotherhood. I think it’s great that people like HxH, but it’s just not as compelling for me. I wasn’t able to connect with the characters of HxH as deeply as I was with FMA.

FMA: B is my fave, HxH is by no means bad though, in fact I like it quite a bit. I just resonate with Edward on a personal level more than Gon.

Brotherhood follows the manga, the old one starts like the manga and becomes its own story after a while.

Brotherhood is better, but you should start with the first series if you want to watch both.

Gintama is the best Shonen, but out of these is FMA: B a bit better than HXH 2011 and HXH 1999 a bit better than FMA(2003).

There is no anime that will ever replace HXH as my all-time favorite. They did almost everything perfectly.

@deathstroke512: No, as in, it follows the entire story of the manga a lot closer than the first version did. Basically the original FMA started out following the manga but caught up with it very quickly, so the mangaka told them to go ahead and make their own story out of it(or something to that effect anyway). So the original has a different story than the manga. Brotherhood was just a remake that follows the manga as closely as possible since the original one did its own thing.

I personally like Brotherhood better but the original is by no means terrible. So yeah Brotherhood is the canon one and I would watch it instead(at least first anyway).

Oh and if subs or dubs matter to you, it's worth noting FMA and FMA:B are one of the few exceptions where I actually like the English dub more than the sub, but to each their own.

I can think of ten anime just off the top of my head that are far better than those.

So you can't do that and not expect me to challenge your opinion. And the reality is that the HxH anime is far superior to the FMA anime. Like by a pretty substantial margin

Comparing Assassination Classroom to HxH is honestly an insult to the former.

The contrary is true to be honest. HxH has far superior and more complex characters, a well developed narrative, and intricate and though provoking themes. HxH is in a league of its own tbh

Damn this is a hard one. Just coming to a decision you realize how far these two are above the average shonen. I love the battle aspect of HxH and think it has the most complex battle system of any shonen. I also love the themes and how Togashi really delves into the psychology of these characters. You can write a whole thesis on characters like Meruem, Chrollo, Kurapika, and Killua.

But the same can be said for FMA. That series also has some well thought out themes, symbolism , and dives into the psychology of these characters. I'll give my vote to HxH though. Not because I think it's better, but I tend to have more preference for battle oriented shonen, and HxH is among the best in that category. But damn this was a good one. Good thread.

FMAB because of its soundtrack, pacing and the plot.

HxH comes second because the Chimera Ant arc dragged way too damn long for me so that brings it down. FMAB pacing was perfect. It did slow down when they got to the snow place but I wasn't bored unlike some episodes in The Chimera Ant arc.

HxH does have better characters though imo.

It's almost a draw. I personally like Hunter x Hunter more by a sliver.

I prefer Hunter x Hunter slightly but it's very close. Mainly due to the villains like Hisoka, Chorllo and Meruem. None of the FMA villains would make a Top 10 or even Top 20 greatest villains list as great as the story is. HxH makes my stomach turn more when it comes to tension. The anime openings and endings for FMAB are goated though.
