So how would any hero from fiction react to a random civilian managed to sacrifice himself/herself against a dangerous blow from a villain or any deadly hazard for their safety?

would they be sad or mad about it?

I do think they will be sad but I think they would be more pissed off that the civilian “had” to do that and that wouldn’t spell good for the villain. Anyway just my opinion.

@invadedtbd: Good point and just wondering after so many stories of a hero sacrifice

They’d be mostly sad but then find reconciliation to be better heroes possibly.

They’d also possibly take human life a little more seriously (not to say that they didn’t in the first place, but it’d be eye opening if this was the first time it happened)

Captain America: civil war brilliantly depicts this scenario.

@gokluma: It depends a lot on the hero in question

Yeah, this is pretty close to the premise, and shows how many different reactions you can get

Reminds me of Chuck Austen’s terrible characterization of Cap in his Avengers run, where Cap got mad at a civilian who got injured trying to protect him from the Wrecking Crew.

Pretty much makes the civilian a martyr.

@hyiena: How would hero react to that happening?

- If the hero is some kind of a vindictive, justice-incarnate vigilante I would think they would react with anger and indignation.

- If the hero is some kind of a naive, idealistic protector with twisted (extremely high) sense of duty or high opinion of himself, I would imagine that they will lament the lost and maybe even get depress/lost their self-esteem.

- If the hero is some kind of a battle crusader dealing against an impossible odds, i would say that the sacrifice may inspired him to carry on and persevere

- If the hero is some kind of a no-nonsense, seasoned veteran or some kind of a jaded anti-hero who experience a lot of losses already he would just deal with it as a matter of factly and move on to whatever agenda he is involve with.
