How fast is movie Sonic?
Someone said mach 20 and then another person said FTL lol this is going to be interesting
I haven't seen the movie do I can't say, but I doubt he's FTL
Just came out of the theatres. He has statue force, ran 10 miles (from the truck on the highway to the destination back to the truck) in less than 5 secs, but I wouldn't say FTL.
@subline: Obvious low showings / PIS.
Having seen the movie myself, he is not FTL based on evidence, but is way faster than supersonic by my estimates. Probably Hypersonic range, maybe a little faster then that.
Going 10 miles and back in 1 second is around Mach 94. So that’s a good starting point.
What would you classify being so fast that normal people, bullets, and even missiles seem frozen by comparison?
@crater_maker: I myself am leery of calling it lightspeed, especially since Robotnik could still press a button that his finger was already a short distance away from. I definitely wouldn't call him FTL. But would it be faster than hypersonic? That's what I'm a little unsure of.
Basically, I'd say he's somewhere in-between Hypersonic speed and lightspeed.
@shroudofsorrow: that is a massive range... that’s like saying he’s somewhere between the Earth and the Sun
In one of the scenes Sonic managed to travel from Montana to the Pacific Ocean and back in about 4 seconds, a round trip of between 1500-2400 miles depending on where in Montana he was.
Putting Sonic's speed between Mach 1773.5 - 2815.
@shroudofsorrow: just massively hypersonic is between Mach 100-1000.
OT: based of the Bar, Montana Ocean and Missile feats should comfortably put him within the Quad Mach spectrum at least(low estimate/end ftr) which would be MHS+(Mach 1000-8810)
Saw the movie a few days ago, Sonic was genuinely speaking pretty damn impressive in terms of speed.
@chronicplane: Thanks.
Honestly don't get the hype behind Sonic's speed tbh. He has some wicked high ends, but he fails to dodge explosions twice, and in the final fight where he was clearly going at full speed he couldn't replicate the slowed down missile feat.
@gilgameshthepimptoendallpimps: I think that just makes him inconsistent.
Also, the ship Robotnik was piloting was powered by the same energy Sonic seems to have, justifying why it was able to keep pace with him.
@shroudofsorrow: Well he has more feats of getting tagged by explosions/not quad mach speeds than the 2 statueforce feats he has, so the consistency leans in the not-stupid fast area.
Also didn't Eggman lose the hair that was fueling his power? Memories a bit fuzzy I'll admit but that's what I remember.
@gilgameshthepimptoendallpimps: I mean, the only times I remember him being tagged by explosion in combat was in his fight against robotnik, his ship was being powered by Sonics hair which allowed him to keep pace with Sonic.
@gilgameshthepimptoendallpimps: He didn't lose it during his chase/battle with Sonic.
@shroudofsorrow: Well, either way, it doesn't matter, Sonic was going at full power and saying the missiles were fueled by the hair energy feels a bit too difficult to prove for me to buy into it.
@gilgameshthepimptoendallpimps: Robotnik was shooting lasers at him, and they were lasers that Sonic consistently avoided. Also, when he got hit by an explosion at the end of the chase, it was when he was in mid-air.
@shroudofsorrow: dodging them is one thing, statuing them is a whole other beast which he failed to repeat.
Sonic wasn't mid-air, he was running down the building and was shown to be more than capable of side-stepping whilst grounded.
Honestly, I think @chronicplane and @divinevisitor have it right. Movie Sonic's above MHS but below lightspeed, probably at about Mach-2000 give or take.
Quadruple Mach i think. He had some low ends but it’s a kids show. The tranq dart thing was for comedic effect I mean eggman’s fingers were able to move while bullets were frozen, it was a plot necessity. The quill thing was also obviously a plot device, and the projectiles and the whole fight clearly accelerated to a different level of speed
He ran about the double Mach range during the chase scene, but there were plenty of times he was clearly massively hypersonic, and he clearly showed the combat capability when expecting it to quicksilver supersonic objects and he had the damage potential to break metal with a spin attack, plus the energy charge thing was a cool thing. I feel like he has good forum potential, mostly because the forums are dead and it was a decently good film.Also when caught off guard he isn’t fast, but he has quad digit travel speed at max, decent damage potential and the speed to perceive a laser attack and see bullets as frozen.
@battle123axe: Wouldn't "quadruple mach" be Mach 4? He's way faster then that. Or are these two different things?
@shroudofsorrow: I think he means four digit mach
@shroudofsorrow: I think he means four digit mach
Yup
@gilgameshthepimptoendallpimps:
"Well, either way, it doesn't matter, Sonic was going at full power and saying the missiles were fueled by the hair energy feels a bit too difficult to prove for me to buy into it."
Robotnik's ship also statues the same missiles that were fired before he 'activated' Sonic's hair as a power source. After activating the power source the missiles kept up with Sonic.
Surely that proves it was the power source that allowed Robotnik to keep up with Sonic.
@battle123axe: @defiant_will: I thought so.
Yes, I would agree with that.
Sonic had some really good speed feats. Like making after images in slowed time, making bullets look stopped, and in the chase scene he was running full speed in slowed/stopped time which is really impressive.
@subline: he didn't dodge a dart because he got scared.
Hes inconsistent. Cant even call them low ends lol. He is as fast as he needs to be in the moment. Though if the question ever came up in universe I think they'd say at minimum faster than lightning.
@lilbroomstick: What does MHS mean?
@catlike: Massively Hypersonic
@lilbroomstick: Ah, thank you.
@boofycribba: this is the correct answer
maybe low ftl
What is "low FTL" and how is sonic that fast?
maybe low ftl
What is "low FTL" and how is sonic that fast?
low ftl is low light speed and it appeared sonic was that fast in the movie when he blitz eggman at the end
