If super powerful enemies are statues to them then how come they tend to get hit by normal humans or objects that aren’t even faster than a bullet?

They should really be invincible against anything not up to there speed and should be able to move out of the way.

Like how can Wonder Woman dodge doomsday but then get hit by a thug with a gun and it even moves her head when he hits her.

And In BvS when Batman unleashed his guns on Superman he should have been able to destroy all of them before a bullet was even fired as soon as they popped up In slow motion.

(ps why does Superman even use heat vision he is much faster and more effective in almost any scenario not requiring a big heat source.)

Flash gets punched all the time in the shows and movies yet they should be in slow motion to him.

Could say it’s bad writing but what is the bad writing exactly. Should they never get hit and make the comics boring and unsuspencful or is it the powers to blame?

1. They are not always faster than their opponents. I could name about 10-15 villains that have enough strength and speed to keep up with them or even be faster.

2. Exposing weaknesses. Kryptonite, magic etc.

3. Using hostages as to trap them

4. Using hax. Like forexample green lantern ring has been able to catch beings that fast.

List goes on. While physically they are fast, there are many ways that their villains keep up.

You can guess the reason. If they aren’t facing a character with superior speed they should be untouchable. However, then they could only face world ending threats and herald tier characters. Also, it would be impossible to write stories that put them in any real danger. Superman has super speed and can hear sounds from orbit but people still manage to sneak up on him. The answer to your question is probably one that you already know or can guess. If they operated at peak capacity all the time stories would be over in 4 panels.

Recent Bendis penned Superman comics suggest that operating at super-speed takes considerable concentration and effort -- not something he can just turn on and maintain indefinitely. That could explain why he isn't always fighting at those speeds or why he gets tagged by far slower characters. Other stories have him hold back his speed to avoid needless collateral damage (when writers remember that's a thing), though Bendis's take could always explain why he doesn't just statue his way through in places where collateral would be minimal, like barren planets or outer-space.

Does current WW even have any notable speed feats to her name? Other than bullet deflection.

I haven't kept up with Flash to comment.

Because super-speed characters aren't constantly engaged in super-speed-statue mode 24/7. That's just a headcanon by fanboys.

@kidolio: Read BruceRogers' post #13. Breaks it down pretty well. There's also always context to be considered. And then yes, there are times where it's just plot induced so that the fight would be actually interesting.

How do users keep making awful threads?

- If ComicVine users know how to read and write (and actually understand), how come these types of threads are made?

They should really be able to think for themselves and come up with the obvious answers.

Like how come this user with 4000+ posts make a thread like this expecting a meaningful answer?

Could say it’s the forums going bad but what does that mean exactly? Should users always make smart threads without the useless ones or are the mods/staff to blame for this?

Maybe they can speed up and slow down their perception instead of always being fast.

@saberscar223: yep, that’s why we also said plot induced stupidity. It would be pretty boring if the flash or Superman just zoomed in and defeated their foes in one panel or one scene. Look how people cried at the end of justice League. Once superman showed up the threat was over.

@brucerogers: WW does. She has a bunch of speed feats but not nearly as much as the flash or Superman. You can see her racing along side a casual running flash and holding a conversation which is a ridiculous feat. It doesn’t matter how fast that he was running because it was at least hyperonic. She has way more reaction feats that suggest anyone less than a Superman tier character should not even be able to touch her. Just flying into space unaided is a speed feat since you have to be able to fly at least 7 miles a second to reach escape velocity.

@christianrapper: Yeah, I'm aware that is fast. I was looking for notable feats though. Her reactions are definitely low speedster level (easily perceiving bullets in slo mo) but nothing to suggest she is untouchable.

@brucerogers: i mean untouchable by normal people or characters with powers like deathstroke and spiderman. Anyone that’s not at least a low level speedster should not be able to touch her. Their attacks should look like they are moving in super slow motion. However, for the sake of the plot it’s not like that at all.

@saberscar223: If super powerful enemies are statues to them then how come they tend to get hit by normal humans or objects that aren’t even faster than a bullet?

Because that's a mistake you (and many others) do; No, there's nobody that is a "statue" to Supes etc: It's just a question of perception. These characters, they don't perceive things in slomo - you do; you do via the artists that chose to present it to you this way.

These characters, they have no "switch" they can "flip" then time slows/stops indifinitely, while velocity, inertia etc physics are suspended. They're simply fast - they don't stop time..

A case of exception can be made for characters like the Flash, who draws on a surnatural force; But for the other (lookin' at ya Supes), the process in simply an extension of having fast meat.

Likewise, speed isn't skill, it isn't agility, it isn't precognition. Trains are aslo fast yet they're not that hard to tag.

@nucleon: We see things from their perspective, we see things in slow mo because they themselves also do, we know it isn’t time stop it’s just they speed their brains up and see things in slow mo. It doesn’t effect the outside world it’s just that the character themself see the world that way, we know it’s not time stop.

Also what are you trying to say with that train analogy because unlike a train that’s not all that fast and is easily predictable the hero usually has combat speed at super speed.

@kidolio: No, we see things from the writers' perspective. There's no "slomo mode" - it's a fan fabrication. Combat speed has more to do with manoeuvrability than speed: Speeding in combat is akin to driving a Ferrari in a 4-room appartement with locked doors.

Or it's stupid. Yeah, when Supes and the Flash have a discussion at "super-speed" and the sound they produce is somehow faster than speed of sound, it's objectively stupid. It's either time-stopping or Supermagic, but it certainly isn't speed. Or marketed for adults.

@nucleon: No you can clearly see majority of the time that from the characters perspective they see things in slow motion and move around as if time had stopped or slowed down even though it isn’t time powers. I’m sorry if you think it’s stupid it’s just how it works in Marvel/DC comics plus a couple other works of fiction.

@kidolio: If we saw from their perspective, then we should be at the first person-view when it appears. It's not. The view we generally have is the directors/writers'.

It may look like time stops for you, but for these characters, it doesn't; execent velocity or mass, inertia, narrowing field of perception and loss of dexterity still exist - at least for those who doesn't pull from the surnatural. They are just fast enough to cope with it.

And like I've wrote, combat speed is more a matter of maneovrability than straigthline speed. You want fast combat speed? Watch Ip Man. Naive thread.

Plot.

Plot is also responsible for the said character's most stupid (and even moreso cannon for that reason), outlying feats. If you take the plot out, you just cut these characters' powers by half by the very same move.

That's why DC is forced to re-boot every other decade; It is at that moment stuck in its own ongoing excesses.

Because they could be more powerful than Supes (whose position at the top of the power scale is a fragile one) then, a no-no down at DC's.

I mean, a guy that can change the colours of things can beat Supes, right?

@nucleon: Perspective doesn’t have to mean first person view, we get a perspective from Peter Parker’s mind all the time and how he says bullets look slow.

No, time does look like it stops for these characters because they can have full conversations and walk around as if time stopped with no hinderence what so ever to any part of them.

Example: When Flash and Captain Atom were talking they were in the middle of a war with nothing moving and they basically just talked and walked as if nothing was happening because nothing was, to them.

When Superman and Flash were talking in a diner they weren’t moving and just sat and talked while the world was frozen, they weren’t fighting or anything but just moving like regular people, as if the world had stopped around them.

When quicksilver saves everyone from that mansion you can see that he sees things in slow motion because the guy has enough time to moon walk casually in the middle of the explosion.
