Him seeing the Box Office numbers of JL
Him seeing the Box Office numbers of JL

To me, it's the first DC Universe movie because we see Batman and Superman finally meet and...some other stuff. So I'm really excited for people to see it.

Geoff Johns

So recently, with the failure of Justice League, people are wondering where the hell does Johns fall into all this? It seems we keep hearing him getting promoted despite the utter failure of the movies. He got promoted to Co Head of DC movies after BvS, and then got promoted again before JL came out to just below the studio head. Now, after his Superman run I've had nothing but malice towards him and even more so with the nostalgia porn/Watchmen milker/lame meta commentary labeled Rebirth. But despite my thoughts on him as a progressively worse writer, people had faith in him that he would be the one to save the DCEU, that he was the chosen one... and he was, but not in the way we thought

It seems all he does is hype up movies and then go into damage control when they fail. So what the hell are they paying him for? I thought he was writing Wonder Woman, but he's not even credited, but Snyder is. His script with Affleck for Batman got scrapped. It seems like this guy can't run a movie studio to save his life, and yet he keeps getting promoted. Maybe he should focus less on his over used meta commentary/nostalgia porn/Watchmen milking story, and run the damn movie studio he's getting paid millions to run.

So what do you guys thing? What's the freaking deal with Johns?

I had a beef with Johns since Infinite Crisis; then - pretty much what Saint said about his recent New-52 Superman' run and "grand" idea of crossing mainstream DC and Watchmen; written by him Smallville episodes were meh imo.

Maybe this guy sometimes produces decent comics, but that doesn't mean that he's good with managing movies; hype alone doesn't mean much.

Geoff Johns is overrated af. He had a pretty good run with pre-52 Superman, but that all it was -- pretty good. He hasn't put out anything of that quality since. The best things he even did with Superman involved other writers helping him as well (Busiek). He also nut hugs Reeve Superman.

I thought Johns only took the wheel of the DCEU a few months ago?

This crossed my mind as well.

IMO, Johns is a great comic book writer but when it comes to film division....

Idk.

People say he is the "Feige" of DCEU but it really doesn't show.

Ooh well

He was promoted to Co-Head around the time BvS came out. And like i said, the dude doesn't seem to be working on anything, and when he does it gets scrapped

He should be hanged, drawn and quartered then. In a place for all to bear witness.

I'm not sure it's just Geoff Johns. The 2011 costume re-designs were way too complicated. The story was "meh", and swapping out Vic for J'onn was ridonkulous. I get it: technology is the new science fiction. A lot of that was more than Johns. the costume re-design was Jim Lee. David Goyer was quoted, or misquoted, negatively against J'onn. Something about geek virgins liking The Martian Manhunter...

I think what I would like to see, if DC is serious about not copying Marvel's cinematic blueprint, then they should adapt a story like JLA: A Midsummer's Nightmare, or JLA: Liberty and Justice.

That said, I think Wonder Woman proved Warner Bros/DC incorrect. Someone was quoted as saying that DC was not going to follow Marvel's blueprint. DC was going to release Justice League and then the solo character films. But, did Wonder Woman launch a marketing plan to build excitement for Justice League? Yes. Wasn't that the point of Batman VS Superman and Man of Steel? Maybe? Maybe not?

Right now, I'd scrap Flashpoint and tell a Flash story. I would bring together the film and television division.

Over the course of several films, Marvel has set up a single narrative thread: the Infinity Gems. Each film has had it's own story, but there is that underlying thread leading to Infinity War.

Instead of doing what doesn't work - do what does.

Geoff Johns was responsible for Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds. Let that sink in for a while.

So now we hate Johns? Kewl.

I think he had little input on JL. They're using him as a face like Feige without actually giving him Feige power.

@saintwildcard: Geoff Johns doesn't know shit about the movie business and successfully build a franchise. He can help them with faithfully portraying their characters and which stories to use, but not much else.

His involvement and promotion was definitely just to reassure fans (look how that turned out).

I've been saying it since Wonder Woman released. I thought he was the answer to MCU Kevin Feige, but I haven't seen a shred of evidence that supports that OR tells us what his role is in all this.

Wasn't it also his idea to bring back Barry Allen and Hal Jordan? He seems to be a fan of nostalgia.

@jashro44: Yes, its pretty evident that he's a fan of Silver Age heroes, you can really notice he's bad writing on Green Lantern Rebirth.

There is nothing he could do for JL. The wheels are already turning too far. He gets alot of crap and while some of it is deserved JL is not one of them, the only time we'll see a movie that geoff may have some form of control over is Aquaman, whose DCEU version is already clashing with the version he's made popular.

Also he shouldn;t be a Movie guy, Not sure if he could just say no but He shouldn't be anywhere near the head of something he's not comfortable in. Geoff and done some crappy things but he's also a good amount of the reason DC is still in a good place.

Should he be the Kevin Feige of the DCEU, but not lets pretend he's has the power, the DCEU's failure lies with WB and Snyder and maybe even Joss due to JL. I mean what have we seen to prove he has any control pass being told he does and I don't really get the Nostalgia angle, Its no different than the New 52 Superman being scrapped for Post Crisis Superman, Its what people seemingly prefer and like even with Doomsday Clock and Rebirth centering around the Watchmen, people are eating it up.

The Comic Book Community begs for change but when they get they say its not the change they wanted or just a bad chance. Why keep going through that with something as niche as Comics? Geoff IMO has the right mindset to please the fanbase that clearly works and leaves the new stuff and concepts to other to tell in individual stories and what not.

Like I keep saying Geoff isn't perfect but his good outweighs the bad (at least to the average reader) and the Majority rules.

Tl;DR : Geoff Is doing what people Like and shouldn't be blamed and crapped on for things he clearly has no true input in.

P.S lets be Honest do we really think Geoff would let Superman and Batman be potrayed as they were if he had any power, or Barry Allen and Aquaman be potrayed so poorly and opposite of his ideals when they're two characters he's put time into bringing back into the spotlight and clearly love. Yeah lol, He has no say.

@stormshadow_x: Agreed with pretty much all what you say. Also I find it funny that people love Geoff Johns until 1 perceived failure, now he's "overrated".

Geoff Johns:

Batman is not a hero.

He is just a man.

Merriam Websters:

1a: a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability

b: an illustrious warrior

c: a person admired for achievements and noble qualities

d: one who shows great courage

Him not too good with this word thing.
