Former WWE Wrestler Adam "Edge" Copeland Playing Atom-Smasher on The Flash

Earlier today, images were flying around the net of ex-WWE entertainer Adam "Edge" Copeland on the set of The Flash in a pretty crazy helmet and outfit and it got people wondering "who is Edge playing?" Well, the CW PR Twitter page let everyone know this afternoon that Edge is playing Atom-Smasher.

Atom-Smasher made his debut in ALL-STAR SQUADRON ANNUAL #2 back in 1983 and has played both a hero and a villain with ties to the JSA. Here's what the live-action version of this character will look like.

Reports have come in that Atom-Smasher will indeed be a villain on the show and not a hero. Atom-Smasher, in the comics, has super-strength and enhanced durability, making him someone really tough to battle. In addition, he can increase his size, density, and mass. How's the Flash going to stop him?

This isn't Copeland's first acting gig by far. He's appeared in over 30 episodes of the television series Haven as well as the television series Sanctuary.

Season two of the Flash debuts on October 6 on the CW.

Yes, I was hoping they'd bring in Atom Smasher, kind of sad he wont be a hero but maybe down the road they'll reform him for good.

That costume is horrible. Just horrible. But I like Edge, so I'm conflicted.

Costume is a little to bulky but Edge has a lot of personality so he should do well as the character.

Flash can be fast, but he cant dodge the SPEAR!!!

That's fun casting, don't think Edge is a good actor but its interesting in the ways most of these Berlanti series are.

Glad to see Adam getting more work after having his wrestling carrier cut short from entertaining us way to hard. Plus he's Canadian, so instant cred.

I know I shouldn't say so before seeing what it looks like in the finished episode, but that costume looks pretty unflattering from that shot...

almost every costume always look stupid without the effect so dont worry in the show it would look better

I am hoping that costume is a first prototype and that Atom Smasher will devise a better outfit either through Star Labs or some other person who can make the technology better.

Flash should have more partners. I don't like that so many meta-humans are 'evil'.

@titanbreaker: he's a hero with a little moral ambiguity to him but he was the golden-age atom. I'm kind of hoping he tries to take the name atom.

No, this guy is Atom Smasher. The guy that was in Earth 2 was simply, Atom, the predecessor to this character.

Yeah, Edge as Rothstein is pretty cool but the costume just looks horrible. Not that I could do any better and I know it's only TV budget but seriously they could've done better, just saying

Keep in mind the show is called "The Flash".

There bringing in alot of Earth 2 characters very young by the way. Atom Smasher, Wildcat, Hawgirl/man, and recently announced the Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick.

Could possibly eliminate Barry since he will appear in the big screen and have Jay as the front-runner in some epic twist.

@justthatkid: well honestly very doubtful as Barry is the flash, too many personal characters around him. I don't see them killing Barry off, plus remember Barry flash in the movies is entirely different dccu then the dctvu is so I don't foresee thus being an issue, superman returns came out in the middle of Smallvilles run.

I think they'll go with a plot helping earth 2 people like Jay gerrick get back to their earth after a while. My predictions.

as long as we see JSA characters and members, who cares? This show has done more for DC characters than any other....

Odd looking costume, but they've been doing well with the show, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

Awesome! Edge is the coolest, also great to hear knowing he's a comic book fan.

@obsidian_raindrop1: Might be hard with Atom in the series Arrow/LOT but it could be the origin of his name. Maybe they have the same tech but he uses it to grow and has beef with Ray Palmer.
