Fairy Tail so lacking in fantasy

This anime is nothing like traditional fantasy stories such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Wizard of Oz, and King Arthur. Its more like Dragon Ball Z with wanna-be wizards thrown in and way too much fanservice. So ridiculous as this does not even feel like one.

That's kinda common in anime. Sci-Fi and fantasy often feel contemporary.

If you want something more like fantasy, give Berserk a try.

I think it was pretty clear after the first arc that they weren’t going to be like the normal Harry Potter or King Arthur stories. Berserk would be better for a “fantasy” settting like you’re looking for, like JXM said.

it's a shonen, not a classic medieval or classic magical.

Claymore might be up your alley.

Never punish a story for not being what it's not trying to be.

I seen an ep, some of it looked kind of funny but its basically a drama or teenage comedy like pokemon or something? It's rare I will watch an anime, I watched a season of Attack on Titan that was pretty cool.
