This had a very heated debate in the past if E.T takes place in the star wars movie universe, Does that mean Planet Earth exists in Star Wars, how would the Sith or Jedi not know about it?. At the time fans said E.T possibly takes place during the classic trilogy or prequel trilogy.

E.T. species was seen in The Phantom Menace. As for Earth, more than likely. It has appeared in some non-canon works. They might know about it, but it's too far to have any value.

Star wars took place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away

most of Star Wars(at least the prequels where it's mentioned) seems to take place in the same galaxy with a government for that one galaxy

so I guess E.T's race has intergalactic travel, and also lasted however long it was from the time star wars was to the now

at least if you want to put logic to what was just an Easter egg

Some hardcore fans claim E.T movie is indeed canon to the Star Wars continuity.

Well, all of Star Wars seems to take place in just a single galaxy (which is still a huge distance of space). It is entire possible, though still a bit unlikely, that the Milky Way (and thus Earth) and the Star Wars galaxy both exist in the same universe.

I am a little surprised the new movies or even the comics haven't thrown one of the E.T species members in the background of a scene again just to mess with people.
