What equipment would you choose to be a vigilante. Would you use a gun? Would you rely on your martial arts and physical skills? Would you were a costume or just street clothes? Would you have a name? E.T.C
Equipment you'll need to be a vigilante in real life.
Riot Gear would be the smartest, but I'll list the basic's:
- Bulletproof vest, or at least a stab proof one.
- A blunt weapon, cane, baton, etc.
- Taser's, Pepper Spray, etc.
- A cellphone to call an ambulance.
Common sense
Pretty much.
Personal ambulance to follow you around.
License to carry a concealed weapon and a cell phone to call the police when I use passive, non-violent means to subdue the criminal and make a legal citizen's arrest. Maybe a first aid kit so I can tend to the victim in case it was a violent crime.
1-A very good lawyer when you're inevitably arrested
2-A good life insurance and medical policy for when someone competent decides to destroy you. The first because when they kill you so your family at least receive good money, the second for the hospital fees when they utterly break your body
3- A good psychiatrist to hopefully give you the therapy you need to quit this nonsense.

the line between vigilante and terrorist while operating inside of north am,erica depends pretty much entirely on how the government views you.
i'm thinking military grade weapons, AA-12 with 36 round drum magazine with HE and AP grenade rounds, full military dragon scale Body armor, level 5 protection. green barret combat knife, meant to go through body armor. combat boots, takedown sap gloves. probably a fully automatic GK 17 or even 2 as side arms with custom double drum magazines.
assuming I could afford that if were limited to current funds..... I steal a mask and a baseball bat.
Common sense
Common sense would dictate you not to try to be a vigilante.
Bail money and a good lawyer are also essential.
This, being a vigilante is illegal and you'll probably get shot, stabbed, burned, raped, murdered in the first week.

Very subtle. :p
Equipment
- Black, military grade combat armor, with a face helmet.
- Weapon/ammo holsters for sidearms and combat knives, along with a primary.
- Sniper rifle with suppressor. Maybe an older model, something that's really hard to trace.
- Various sidearms and combat knives.
- Blunt weapons. Likely a granite baton.
- Taser, mercy bullets (rubber), CS Spray.
Training
- Peak physical condition.
- Military training.
- Martial arts training with a focus on Krav Maga and pressure points.
- Ninja training.
- Knife combat.
- Survival skills.
- First aid and medical training.
- Computer hacking.
Operations
I would have to find the most unimaginably hard to find base of operations possible. Somewhere rural. I'd have my own batcave.
I'd switch up the times in which I'd perform hits and avoid any kind of pattern whatsoever. I wouldn't even want people to of heard of me. Ideally every time I bust someone I want the police to think it's completely unrelated to any other crime. In fact, if I could, I'd do my best to lead the criminals to the police.
Obviously I'd avoid CCTV at all costs. If I could, I'd take it out prior to any kind of activity. Always always wear gloves and avoid leaving prints on anything. If I've offed someone I'd make sure to leave the crime scene in a way which makes it impossible for a psychological profiler or detective to work out how anything happened. Sort out destroyed furniture or ornaments, clean up the crime scene. Or work it in reverse and make the crime scene look nothing like how it was originally. If I've choked someone out I'd stab them in the gut afterwards, punch them around, knock stuff over, make it seem like a spur of the moment murder.
In general, just make myself impossible to profile or track.
Can't think of much else to be honest.. other than basics like avoid using land lines, walking into banks and taking out loads of money...
I wouldn't give myself a name, and with luck, nobody else would give me one either. Well, they can once I'm done being a vigilante. Then I'd be off.

That may be a bit excessive. But I think a vigilante is likely to have his luck run out and be jailed or dead quicker then not.
I'd have...
-a comfortable mask
-lightweight bullet-proof jacket
-sniper rifle
-pistol
-projectile knifes
-switchblades
-some kind of cloaking device
-Doritos
First you would need some really good legal advice. Essentially, a Bounty Hunter is as close to a vigilante as possible. I would get training from some reputable Bounty Hunter school (yes they do exist).
I wouldn't wear a colorful costume or a cape. A wacky costume makes you stand out in public and makes you an easy target. A cape makes it easy for your attacker to throw you to the ground. I would also wear black and body armor. If you want to protect you identity wear something to cover at least part of your face and stay in the shadows.
Keep in mind though while in most states in the US you are allowed to make a citizen's arrest and use "Reasonable force" to subdue a criminal, you are not given the same legal protection as a police officer and you could wind up in civil or criminal court even if you try to stay within the law.

Not from the U.S.
@matanui123: then you should know the laws (both legal and street versions) on where you are about to operate. US is quite lax in such occassion.

My fists.
K what do you prefer to have your hands cut off with? Hacksaw? Axe? What? Your fists will make good tools.

Try it. I shall reign down upon you an unholy sh*tstorm.
@rogueshadow: Hey you're the one who said that people need your fists if they wanna be a vigilante. :P
