Does anyone have any decent non-DC or non-Marvelrecommendations?

I read Deathmatch and the Walking Dead, but does anyone have others? I have way too much DC on my pull list. If there is a such thing.

@Decoy Elite: Read the first chapter, it's weird and I have no idea what is going on, but color me intrigued.

@Shipster360: I started reading Shadowman after hearing such good things on here and, so far, I'm liking it.

Saga, The Massive, Fatale, Manhattan Project, I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a book. Indy comics are awesome if you get bored with the superhero genre.....

@Captain_Yesterday: It sort of explains stuff as it goes along, but a lot of stuff is left hanging because it's just introduced to flesh out the world.

Saga is great and pretty much all the Valiant titles.I've also been reading the pulp comics that Dynamite is putting out. The Shadow is really cool and so is Peter Cannon Thunderbolt.

Let me re-use my answer from a similar question:

Well in that case I would definitely recommend Hellboy by Mike Mignola. It's easily my favorite non-Marvel/DC series, and features the adventures of a demon detective beating up monsters. You can't get more dark and grittier than Hellboy, and it has elements of crime and horror as well. If you've seen the movies, do note that the comics are very different - Hellboy is more of a Clint Eastwood weary world-traveler type character here than the humorous badass of the movies.

And another benefit is that the entire series and all miniseries are collected into easy-to-sort trade paperbacks. So you can just start from Vol. 1 and work your way up. Solid, beautifully simple stories with lots of monster-bashing and Nazis. And if you want to collect single-issues, Hellboy in Hell is an ongoing that's available right now!

Also, gorgeous Gothic art by Mike Mignola:

Anything and all things IMAGE!!

Invincible, Morning Glories, Chew, Madman.

Dynamites' The Boys is also AWESOME.

I've also been enjoying Adventure Time and Young Avengers has just started and looks to be pretty cool. Although it has finished now, the Hit-Girl mini-series has been great too!

  • Saga (If you like space books or Star Wars)
  • Hellboy or BPRD (If you want something close to traditional superheroes but not marvel or dc)
  • Revival (A rural gothic noir with supernatural elements)
  • Anything by Icon (While it is an imprint of Marvel it does this outside of the normal continuity)

If you want a good super-hero read that's not an ongoing, I'd say try the TPB's of "Irredeemable" by Mark Waid. The story is over, and there are ten TPB volumes.

First Arc (I believe 1-5) will be in TPB format for only 9.99 in May.Great way to follow many Image titles at the 2.99 price point. Not everything at 2.99 from Image is this cheap but many are.I believe Hoax Hunters Vol.2 6-9 is 9.99 in May and Bedlam 1-5 as well.

Invincible is amazing (start from the beginning) Supurbia is great but it's relatively new (so far vol.1 6 issues, vol.2 4(so far)), Irredeemable and Incorruptible are great (they've ended now but still great), I love AmericanVampire and it's 2 miniseries, Mark Millar's Kick-Ass 1 & 2 including the mini Hit Girl, another great one of his is Superior which is so unique and amazing and finally The Strange Talent of Luther Strode & The Legend of Luther Strode are sooooooooo good.

  • Saga by Brian K. Vaughn
  • Star Wars by Brian Wood
  • Shadowman by Justin Jordan and Patrick Zircher
  • Bloodshot by Duane Swierczynski

Those are the ones I'm reading now and they're all incredibly excellent (except maybe Star Wars which is really good, but not in the same league as the others.) Although, I would definitely recommend all the Valiant titles, as they are all amazing.

It's been on this list several times, but there's a reason for it:

Saga is one of the best books currently being published. You should definitely pick it up.
