Poll Do you think Man of Steel is good now? (119 votes)

Yea 55%
No 39%
Results 7%

I am making this thread because for a decent amount of time I've been seeing that in a lot of topics that people mention Man of Steel to be great, excellent, better than most MCU movies etc etc.

I want to see whether it's a vocal minority or people are actually starting to belive its a good movie.

I still think its a below average movie that was badly made but had excellent action scenes.

In fact if it was in the MCU it'd be at the very bottom of the MCU imo. Even bad or average MCU movies at least, at least make you smile or laugh and at least the protagonist is always pretty good with something going for him.

MoS has none of that. You don't feel anything for the majority of the movie. The protagonist is still boring and the movie is odd.

No amount of time is going to make me belive otherwise.

I wouldn't call it "good", it's ok for me. Nice fights, poor dialogue for Clark.

Hell no, it just became better after rewatching it but to call it actually good is still absurd.

Its a bit rocky but I still like it heaps.

Weird how people dislike Clark's character but love Cavill in the role.

Not bad. It needs better character development. Feels like it's missing a 2nd act. Action solid for the most part. Too much destruction in final battle.

6/10.

Yeah, it's a paradox; Cavill is doing fine with a bad character. He's doing exactly with the directors want - it's what they wanted to represent, and Cavill did it good.

I don't believe MoS is a bad movie; It's got its own style, which is different from the MCU (and it isn't a bad thing). I just don't like the "Dark Superman" and tone, that I find out to be off for the character. The fights are also silly; they are essentially taking turns hitting on one another for hours, whitout any other effect than destruction porn on the environment.

Otherwise I'd rank it among the MCU's ten best.

Alongside it's lacking of time to expand on it's character development and story pacing, it needs more world building. An audience wouldn't care less of the stakes unless the world feels lived in and characters you wanted to survive.

Outside of Pete Ross, Lois Lane, Martha Kent and that one small group of soldiers he saved in Smallville, was there any other supporting characters you actually cared about in the story? It's a waste of a supporting cast. Smallville and Metropolis were just places made of Lego Blocks waiting to be destroyed.

@life_without_progress: you could make the same argument about any Superhero solo movie. Besides, no Perry White even with BvS? Sad.

Yes. I think it's a very good movie. Definitely my favorite of the DCEU. The first half is definitely a little tedious, but the last half knocks it out of the park.

If it were MCU, I'd say it would make my top 7.

@heatforce: Yes but the superhero movies that lacked an investing supporting cast in but I still liked had engaging, well expanded and naturally flowing characterization for their major characters and good plot pacing which I also found lacking in Man Of Steel as I stated above.

No, in fact my opinion on it went down after later viewings. I still think the fights are great, the score is great, Zod is a cool villain, and the acting is pretty good for the most part... but there's a plethora of problems, the worst of which is it's just soooooooooooo damn boring, for the first half especially.

@life_without_progress: i disagree (particularly about the pacing. I could see that issue in BvS but MoS was pretty straight forward imo) but i respect your opinion. Thanks for clarifying ?

No, it is not and never was. The only reason why it could possibly appear better than when it came out is because of how abysmal the followibg movies were, but since the latest DCEU movies are apparently better even that doesn't really apply anymore And if you look at the average opinion the thing ended up around Thor 2, Incredible Hulk in both critical and audience reception so the lowest on the mcu totempole(well, Cap Marvels audience reception was worse). Here on comicvine a ton of people only care about feats so the opinion is somewhat higher on average.

I think like BvS (UE), MoS is underrated. Truly I feel they went places that we only got served in the Fox X-Men universe, Rami Spider-Man and a few MCU films. Ahead of its time for DC - absolutely. Perhaps the best way to readapt one of the three most rebooted characters (Batman and Spider-Man being the other two) on the silver screen. That stated...the tornado scene still throws me off ?‍♂️ but criticizing things we love goes with the fandom.

Captain Marvel audience score is constantly getting brigaded. It was 33% when the movie released on Thursday night with 50,000 votes, more than infinity war got an entire year!

@stahlflamme: the biggest issue regarding MoS reviews were the people screaming not muh superman. Just look at the all time blue ray sales to get a better idea of how it ranks:

https://m.the-numbers.com/alltime-bluray-sales-chart

Opinions change. Even I'm starting to appreciate Iron Man 2. Thor 2 really just had tone problems. Should have gone full dark (pun intended).

Edit: meant to say the biggest issue I had personally with the reviews were the 'not muh superman' complaints...like that was an actual critique of the plot, tone, theme, narrative, etc.

Given the goober we got in JL hindsight is 20/20 ?

How do you come to that conclusion? Edit: or do you mean Norton's Hulk didn't look like him? I'd agree with that but it's not like that means much regarding the overall design.
