Do you think Batman: The Animated Series is less enjoyable for someone who's read numerous Batman comics before watching it?

Poll Do you think Batman: The Animated Series is less enjoyable for someone who's read numerous Batman comics before watching it? (19 votes)

Yes 5%
No 95%

It might be sacrilegious to say this but I am having a real hard time liking it, it's just really not the Batman stories I'm used to. I did not grow up watching this show so the nostalgia factor is also out.

It is just not the mature type of Batman stories I enjoy. Compare the show to Alan Grant's Batman run, which I love, and one would see that is very very watered down. I want to love it, I do, but I really cannot. I liked Superman TAS though.

Ok, how many of you who voted 'no' first watched the show in your mid-20s instead of your early childhood?

@phisigmatau: I could not stand the lack of skill and greater reliance on luck of the animated Batman compared to his comic counterpart. There were three moments of pure plot armour in the first 9 episodes.

I should have known better than to start watching this show expecting "the goddamn Batman" instead of "Batman".

Not really. It's an incredible interpretation that has become adopted by all the current portrayals of the character.

@killbilly: I'll have to watch more of it, 10 episodes in and I'm still not hooked. I bought the whole series, of course I have to finish it.

Nah, I appreciate the episodic arcs nature for the majority of the show even more nowadays after reading modern Batman comic books.

@ffs91: By mentioning the MCU when the convo is about Batman. Obviously, you're trying to make it a DC vs. Marvel thing.

It pretty much represents all the best aspects of Batman as a property.

@ghostodoofus2:

I mean those are legitimate complaints but story, character depth, art, all are of higher importance when we speak of quality and longevity of a show. What amazed ppl abt TAS was it's incredible depth while still being a kid show. Would I have like Batman to be more competent? Sure, but that is little consequence when evaluating a borderline revolutionary series.

Kind off it’s a bit predictable, I remember the episode where batman meet ras al ghul and he was going on about how the Lazarus pit will heal him, plan to destroy the world all that stuff which I’d seen before, it’s not bad it’s just the comic arcs have been clearly recycled for some of them.
