How is audiences going against concensus bad?
Do you like Venom because it was better than you thought, or it was actually good?
I think first part was great, towards the ending it started to become a bit of a cringe show won't deny though.
I thought it was decent. I really couldn't care if critics hated it or not. I think for myself and don't base if I like or not like something on how critics rated it.
I liked Venom because Tom Hardy was good, the action was good, it was funny, and the relationship between Venom and Eddie was great. Yes, it does have bad things like tonal consistency and character development and rushing through some things, but it wasn't bad overall. I can't say all those good things about it that I said and enjoy it as much as I did and call it bad. People talk about it like it's Green Lantern or something though, like relax, it's not nearly on that level. It's a mediocre, rushed film that is a ton of fun and has great action. Would see the sequel in a heartbeat.
Critics now are super annoying. All they do is get paid to hate on any 2010's superhero movie that isn't part of the MCU. They are not even comic book fans just paid chills.
I liked it because it was funny and Venom was cool. To be frank, in a Superhero film, I usually don't care too much about the plot.
I had some problems with tone as well as the pacing of the movie, but it was fun to watch and definitely an action packed film.
@bandedessinee: I agree.

Prove they’re being “paid“ for bad reviews? That’s a very serious conspiracy theory with no evidence.
Then why does Wonder Woman have almost ubiquitous positive scores?
@lil_remains: I agree with the assertion that critics usually hate on any suphero movie that isn’t the MCU.
I thought Venom was a dumpster fire of a movie. Hardy’s performance seemed phoned-in, generic villain and a paper-thin plot etc. It seemed like a movie that didn’t justify its own creation. A few good jokes between the symbiote and Eddie don’t make up for what is a fundamentally bad film to me.
That said, I know a lot of people IRL and on the Vine who enjoyed the movie and were entertained. And that’s fine. You can have fun and like a movie even if it’s objectively not great (see: Batman v Superman).
Seeing the movie really just confirmed what I believed from the beginning, which was that we did not need a Venom movie. Especially without Spiderman. The story was as flimsy as can be, from the general plot to the villain's motivations. I liked the bromance between Eddie and Venom and Tom Hardy's physical comedy. A couple decent action scenes but really not a lot to write home about otherwise.
Not as bad as everyone said, but still mediocre. That's not a reason to give it a pass. It was a level above Catwoman, Fantastic Four (the 2000's version) and Ghost Rider.
