Bow before Mickey!!!
I don't really know how to feel about this.
On one hand, Disney now has control of the film industry like no one else ever has. They're almost a monopoly.
On the other hand, Disney does seem to know what they're doing. Every year they make at least a few great movies a lot of enjoyable movies.
So, that begs the question; is an almost-monopoly okay if the company still makes good products? That's a question all film fans will have to answer soon.
The bias towards Disney is a damn joke. People seem to forget that movies existed before 2015 when Disney really started dominating.
Disney getting closer and closer to a monopoly is OK as long as the X-men/FF4 are back with daddy Disney.
Recently, I've actually been hoping Comcast get it to be honest, as much as I want the X-Men/FF in the MCU, Disney utterly dominate the market now. It's over. They'll wreck Netflix next.
Feige is going to have to think really hard about how to include the X-men in the MCU now lol
He's probably been thinking about that for years anyway and they've said they always have contingencies in case they get rights to characters. They've probably been directly planning for this eventuality since the deal began, which was probably several months before it became public, so close to a year.
@rogueshadow: Wait, you root for Comcast? They're the worst.
@amcu: DoJ already gave them the approval.
So...
Official confirmation that the deal will go through and is fine. When? Also is the Department of Justice the only part of the government that has a say over the deal?

They will probably built a separate universe from 0, with the X-Men and FF and more properties, and do Secret Wars in like 2030.
@outside_85: How?
Poor for the film industry, and for the X-Men, very hard to say. Disney certainly has the ability to do well, but they tend to homogenize all of their products. I suspect Marvel, Star Wars, and X-Men are probably going to have a very similar feel now. Yay. Got to love cotton candy for every meal...
@outside_85: How?
Tell me how it's good that Disney owns virtually every marketable franchise outside of DC, Dr. Who and Transformers?
@outside_85: That's exaggerating.
@outside_85: That's exaggerating.
No it isn't, that's why it's scary.
Let the Captain Salt spam begin...
I am ready. He won't get pass 10 posts
@asgaard: They ain't waiting that long to use X-Men. They'll be used the moment they're able to.
That never was how Feige works, and its not like the X-Men will save the Mcu... (lol)
The intelligent Feige would wait a few years so that there would be some nostalgia for the X-Men characters, i must remember you that the X-Men is not a fresh franchise like for example BP or Doctor Strange.
@asgaard: They're not waiting 12 freaking years.
I never said that, like 5-6 years (less for FF) to the new X-Men movies and one day (maybe 12 years) for Secret Wars.
@asgaard: lmao what makes you think the MCU needs saving?
I said...
its not like the X-Men will save the Mcu...
Not a fan of Disney monopoly honestly and they already have control over a lot of things. So mixed feelings.

They just pruduce generic content. We won't be getting any thrillers, horrors, romances bla bla. It will be the same action adventure movies.
Yeah. That is the main issue. The stuff they make is honestly generic. Disney moniker is associated with a certain kind of movies. And lately it seems like they've imposed that style over everything the own.
@asgaard: They aren't making them a separate universe, either.
Not that easy to introduce the X-Men & mutants in the current Mcu worldbuilding...
@mrmonster: It's ok with me until Disney tells theatres "your going to give us an extra dollar per ticket sold because our movies are better/most the movies released are ours" therefore making people pay extra. Long as that kinda thing doesn't happen it's cool with me
@xzone: They already do that to theaters. Disney usually takes a bigger cut of the ticket sales than most companies and makes theaters play their movies on the biggest screens for a predetermined amount of time. I haven't felt the effect of that as a consumer but time will tell. Disney will no doubt get more and more bold and scummy with this acquisition though.

That right there is the ever present danger with monopolies; once a company achieves that much power over the market, they don't have to care about anything. And if Disney does decide to take the attitude of "our movies are more popular than everyone else's" they won't be wrong, which makes things even worse.
But in spite of all that, people are fine with this because we MIGHT get an Avengers/X-Men or Avengers/Fantastic Four crossover someday. Yeah, let's let one company practically monopolize entertainment just for the sake of Captain America, Wolverine, and Human Torch sharing a few minutes of screen time, great trade off.
