I agree. I was supportive of him after those Tweets, but this is a step way too far. James Gunn needs mental help.

Creepy. My opinion has not change completely. I still think Disney should have not fired him for the tweets that they already knew and he apologized for. If he got fired for this picture, it be more understandable if they did not knew about it. I mean I will wait for more context, but uber edgy joke made in the past is still that, but I do not blame Disney for wanting to walk away from him when his face is associated with what look like a creepy pedophile theme party.

Which no, this is not the same thing as Dan Harmon since it was a sketch pilot, and his work reflect his disturbing sense of humor, not a family company.

James Gunn needs help from many mental doctors before ruining his own life.

People are saying the reason Disney fired him so quick is because they know more stuff is out there. They fired their top guy for marvel phase 4 right away without hesitation that tells me something.

Um. It was a themed party full of consenting adults role playing, yea? As gross as the role playing is to someone's sensibilities (no worse than something like fauxcest porn or scat) there's a fine line between doing a theme party and actually being a pedophile.

So James Gunn used to have the personality of a 4Chan edgelord back ten years ago and has since shown that he is a dramatically different and more positive person today. He can't change his past but he can show progress. Who knows what he was going through back then that made him that way? Judge not one's demons if yours are present with you. But it's clear he's outta that headspace and dedicated his life to being a better person now.

I fail to see why one can never leave even a shameful or broken past if they have proven they're better people now.

The jokes are also patterned behavior you're right. Pattern behavior of an attention whore/troll but not an actual pedophile. Think about that for one second: What actual pedophile loudly announces on twitter that they are a pedophile? We have tons of cases both historic and modern to know that any sane criminal doesn't announce out loud they're about to commit a crime and how much they enjoy it unless they're actually completely insane (Cases of that are available too.) Pedophiles especially keep their crimes quiet due to red hot social stigma and would often denounce it as loud as possible to hopefully guise their own shame.

So while I do not agree with the 4Chan-esque troll humor nor do I get down with his possible kinks(?) he has not demonstrated he's a threat or that he is that exact same troll from 10 years ago.

I get it, our knee jerk reaction is to throw him away to the shadow realm due to the subject matter, I'm sensitive about kids as well. But I am not in the camp of straight up ousting someone who had a dark past and overcame their demons in one of the best ways possible. That's a story worth looking at not vilifying. If he was still cracking pedo jokes today and pulling stunts of the like, solely looking to get a rise out of people for a cheap laugh, I'd totally be on board with throwing him away without a second thought. But this isn't the case. This is a reformed man and should be treated as such.

From what I've seen, that picture was on his website from a ''To catch a pedophile'' costume party organized by Troma, a company that specializes in stupid offending movies. Along with that, there were pictures of other costume parties. It's strange but it's not really different than his other jokes.

@saberscar223 There aren't thousands of tweets where Gunn does offensive jokes. This misinformation comes from the fact that he deleted all of his tweets (around 10 thousand) during a certain timeframe. There were 38 inappropriate jokes that were found on his Twitter. Someone made a breakdown of these jokes right here.

That sound believable to be honest. I mean I do not know why Disney did not make him delete all his past tweet. Again my biggest criticism of the firing is the fact that the company already knew about this. Why hired him in the first place.

I guess is probably more due to current political environment, and the fact that GOTG Is well known now along with James Gunn, that people actually will care about all the edgy joke he make, so they just throw him under the bus. Granted again with stuff like the photo, and possible more stuff like this, I can understand them wanting to fired him as quick as possible.

We honestly shouldn't let our first reactions take precedent over actually thinking about what happened.

Disney was most likely well aware of those tweets and James's twisted sense of humor back in 2012 and they, like me, understood that James was coming to understand how to be a sensible person and deserved a fair shot to show he has changed as a person. I posit that he has since shown enough change to convince many he's not the same person and thus should be willing to forgive his past.

I'm saying James Gunn cannot change his troll past anymore than Disney can erase their past works. But Neither is an argument for outright clipping one or the other at their peak if they've shown to have progressed from what they once were.
