It made him way more powerful, as evidenced by the size of his blasts when he attacked Ozai’s warblimp. I’m sure he suffers the same weaknesses and strengths that other benders do as well with their respective elements (outside of his Avatar spirit stuff like he did with the water spirit in the North Pole).

It did. The Avatar extras stated that although fire is normally Aang's weakest element since he's hasn't mastered it, fire became his most powerful element in the finale due to being amped by the comet.
