Did MCU Kurse really punch Mjolnir away?

This is a very commonly used feat in battle threads.

However from what it looked like he actually hit Thor when Thor got close.

I'd say it was a better speed and reaction feat instead of a strength feat.

Another reason for why I don't think Kurse actually punched it away is because the hammer is enchanted to go where Thor asks it to go. To make it go somewhere else you'd have to get past the enchantment and I don't think punching is a way to bypass it.

He deflected it. It's not like he straight up halted it with a punch. I really don't think any MCU character can do that.

I'd like to add that when Kurse did that punch we didn't get to hear any metallic sound which it would've given if Kurse had actually swatted it.

And I decided to watch the scene again on YT 0.25 speed and from what I could see Kurse had already moved out of the way when the hammer reached him (very impressive he did it very fast) and then hit Thor with a backhand.

It was deflected. This is consistent with other feats in previous movies where Thor would strike something and his hammer wouldnt go straight through the object, implying a resistant force was affecting it.

@havenless: When did something like that happen before?

And I slowed the video to 0.25 on YouTube and from what I saw Kurse had already moved out of the way when Thor got close and backhnded him not the hammer.

You can probably make an argument for the first hit because we don't actually see clearly who or what got hit. But it's very clear he sent Thor flying twice and then swatted Mjolnir away with a backhand. I mean, it doesn't really matter who or what got hit the first time, Thor still got wrecked.

Thor threw the hammer, why would it be deflected by hitting Thor?

Deflecting stuffs is way easier than actually stopping it, but I think that is legit regardless.

@richubs: the video is right there, the hammer is coming at kurse and he turns and backhands the hammer.

In avengers, Thor rips off a scale of the leviathan and then hammers it into its back. If nothing can stop the hammer, shouldn’t he have been able to hammer right through the Goliath? No, the hammer was stopped by it’s girth/density.

@havenless: Slow the video down to 0.25 and you'll see Kurse had already moved out of the way before the hammer came at him. Around a meter away.

Why would it go all the way through if he didn't throw the hammer? I'm guessing you're talking about the scene where Hulk and Thor are on the top of the Leviathan. He just hits the Leviathan so why would it go through it when it isn't intended to.

He hit Thor away . That is why Thor flys away and not Mjolnir . Even the SFX most definitely suggests it is Thor and not Mjolnir since it didn’t produce the signature sound that Mjol it does when hitting a target or being swatted away .

Otherwise , it would completely dampen the effect of Kurse swatting Mjolnir away because the look on Thor’s face suggests that he that was the first time he saw Mjolnir being deflected , showing how strong Kurse is . The scene of Thor calling back Mjolnir was to emphasis Kurse’s strength .

Also , it is extremely poor filmmaking ( something a professional director won’t do ) to throw out something as Kurse swatting Mjolnir and showing it in a trivial manner . So much so that the audience couldn’t see it .
