I think he succeeds. One thing that DCAU Darkseid has that MCU Thanos doesn't is energy beams/projectiles. Thanos having that could have made a huge difference in Endgame.

DCAU Darkseid At his peak had a better powerset and is vastly more durable than Thanos.

Almost any version of Darkseid can solo the MCU
