DC Teases Cyborg Superman

So the New 52 lets you clear your universe of legacy characters that came out of cheap, pointless marketing initiatives. And now you bring them back. Oh boy.

Couldn't possibly come up with a strong new villain into Superman's anemic rogue's gallery, no. Let's just bring back the half-robot version of him. Wow.

Good enough.

He was already introduced in Team 7 though he didn't look like this. So no FF like origin he got his powers from Spartan the android

I'm glad you guys caught on to this because seeing it go over everyones heads was getting frustrating

@omega_man_: I was aware that he had appeared in Team 7, but I didn't know that they'd already decided this continuity's origin.

Given the state of some areas in DC's continuity, there's still a chance that they'd add some references or throwbacks to the original character... I wonder how/if they'd try to incorporate elements of his wife and the crew of Excalibur.

Hank Henshaw - this is a sad reflection of the once great Superman villain.

The great thing about him is he has a purpose but that purpose is to die, the thing is he just can't die.

Cyborg Superman and Black Adam are two of my favourite DC villains as well... after Joker.

I'm siked about the arm personally I can't wait to see what it can do. I'm guessing that his arm is in attack mode and will be able to retract on and off.

Wonder if they'll go along the lines of the tragic story of Henshaw a la Sinestro Corps War...

In truth, when I first saw this I was panning it because of the arm but its clear that its nothing more than a transformation. I like this Cybes-Supes except for the mech to skin ratio on the face. Call me old fashioned but I liked the 3/4s machine to 1/4 skin for Henshaw's face. Had such a Terminator feel to it, it was awesome! But I can learn to love this one as well.

I like the old designs too (minus the underwear) but I think DC is going for a more functional/symmetrical design. It makes more sense, in some ways, to have the cybernetics distributed more fluently and somewhat evenly. I would see it as giving each part of the body the benefits of both worlds.

I love Rocafort staying on Superman with lobdell (not bad, i've always wanted a 'quirkier' supes =D)

Just one suggestion: maybe Henshaw could be updated with a new name? I mean, Cyborg Superman is okay, but not very imaginative, a cool villain like this deserves a cooler name IMO (maybe he could even pinch the name: Eradicator ? ... it sounds a bit more sinister and menacing)

Did they use kryptonite scalpels for the surgery? Just wondering...

@terrellv13: Yes. Somebody named Professor Hamilton built a surgical robot that used a kryptonite tipped scalpel for operating on Supergirl.

Henshaw/Cyborg Superman hit the scene about 20 years ago in the Reign of the Supermen storyline (collected in trade as Return of Superman ... which was the 3rd part of the Death of Superman Trilogy)
