Yes I don't need a splash page I like splash pages but not having splash pages is less important to me than having a good story.

Unless they are really good and full of content, the less splash pages the better.

I don't think I've ever actively looked for them. They're just a nice surprise, especially when executed well.

Thanks guys for all the answers!!! So... we can say "splash pages" are not a discriminants to choose a comics... or, in other way, it's irrelevant to the quality of a comics... Right?

@titaniia: They're a storytelling tool and are used as the plot necessitates. If it doesn't, then it's just a cool bonus.

@mrnoital: I think the same! But, of course, a splash page or a double splash pages, obviously, specially in the '80, i guess, was a target for every writer and illustrator.

Yeah. Often there would only be one splash page in the comic, with that being the first page. In the indies, there are many comics that don't even use them.

@titaniia: Lots of comics have at least one. But it's not vitale. Anyone can read a story without a splashscreen easyly. What matters most in a comics, it's what's happening. If to tell the story, no splashes are needed. Fine. It won't make the story less fun to read.

Also, I don't like look throu a the pages of a comics. I like discovering everything as I read it page by page, frame by frame. If I come acrosse a splash-page, I analyse it. Otherwise, well I continue with the book.

@jb681131: Amen! Me too... Personally i think it give a big breath to history, often break in the center of story, especially if action is planned... but having or not having it, except in the finale, I do not think it is indispensable.
