I'm really not sure why, but I kind of felt like quoting the first lines from the musical Cabaret. Anyway, welcome to the Best of the Month, the poll where you can voice your opinions on what is the best in the world of comics!

This month, like past months, each vote ranking is worth different points (1st place = 3pts, 2nd place = 2pts, 3rd place = 1 pt) and the top 5 of each category will be declared The Best of The Month!

I am pretty sure it wouldn't win but if you wanted to you could vote for that in every category (well, not every category what with publishers). of course, unless you harass -- I mean encourage-- other people to vote for that I am not sure how successful it will be.

However, you know I never turn away anyone from these polls.

Personally, I am leaning toward something like Most Villainous of the Month or Best Antagonist of the Month. I know that might be a DC dominated category but we did do "Best revised origins" last sept so would you support a category like that or would you want to do something else?

I figure I'll narrow down possibilities in this thread to a handful and let users decide in the results thread what the next category will be...

@the_poet: I say go for it on the 'best villainous' and take advantage this event. the following Marvel event, we can slant one towards marvel. Anyhow both companies are usually evenly matched.

Btw, I might go back to my ballot and add some before the end of voting if that's ok.

Breath of Bones: A Tale of the Golem... another great choice and (comic) book!

Here's my review and summary of The Making of Private Eye. I just transferred another $4.00 to Marcos Martin (and BKV). You can say I enjoyed getting that inside look very much. I will consider it when leaving my votes here (maybe later today or tomo).

Where do I put Vertigo titles (The Wake, Trillium) -- Favorite DC Comics?

Back when Cosmo hosted, there was a rule in place which stated you couldn't/shouldn't vote for Vertigo or other imprints in the regular DC/marvel catagories and that they could only be voted for what we now call the indie category (then known as the "Non-DC or Marvel" catagory which I think is a mouthful is not very respectful to the other publishers if we group everything under a title of what they aren't but I digress...)

I on the otherhand allow you to put your votes however so if you wanted a vertigo title you could put it in the Indie or the DC. Knowing this poll as I do, I would suggest you put such titles in the Indie catagory because they are more likely to win there where as in the DC we get more mainstream winners. However, I don't have a rule against putting in that catory so it's really your preference and your opinion on what is the best of the month.

What I'm thinking is that I'll take 3 or so options for the wild card and in the results thread I'll let you guys vote for next month's catagory. I figure I'll just need a certain number of users to go ahead with a category (depending on the amount of voters we get).

Well, we need a ruling here. You can't leave this to everybody's liking. Then, someone could vote for The Wake in Favorite DC Comics and someone else could vote for the same title in Favorite Indie Comics and that wouldn't make a lot of sense. Though personally I'd say imprints should be voted for in the category of the publishing company they also belong to, I will vote for it in "Favorite Indie Comics" now. If only this category had room for more than 3 spots. Sigh! Besides I have a huge problem deciding which should go first: The Bunker or Trillium? I guess you won't allow me to let the two share first place and then put Saga on third. Even then it'll be sad (for me) to ignore Quantum & Woody #2 as it was such a fun read. And I didn't even consider the AV Anthology in any category yet. This is getting harder and harder... ugh.

@donfelipe: well, this will be the 17th time I have hosted this poll (well, 16th and 1/2 since I did the reults thread for Jan 2011) and actually I haven't had a problem with what you are talking about. Notice: for a year or so I have not put very many rules in this poll and it's worked fine. For the 4 1/2 months Cosmo hosted there was a list of rules (including one which stated you had to vote for vertigo titles in indie) which I kind of elminiated. However, people still seem to follow those rules I mean look at some of the others votes.

I'm just going to say put those titles in the indie section because, frankly, that is the only place they have the chance to win based on past data. I will think about adding a visual rule in sept's voting thread if you think it is nessary.

You could put The Bunker or Trillium in 1st place, but I wouldn't do that. remember the point value (1st place = 3pts, 2nd place = 2pts, 3rd place = 1 pt). so you would splitting the 3 pts with two titles so each would get 1.5. I've done that before when a user listed an artist's name rather than a title among other times, but it is never good for the titles involved.

and now for my own votes. I'll edit them to add more villains and so on...

@lifeboy: I was choosing characters that were dressed differently than usual, so I went with her as she was in a spacesuit.

My weekend was pretty busy, so I'll collect the votes tonight and the results will be up soon.
