He was a great writer, he co-created John Stewart and the Al Ghuls with his frequent collaborator Neal Adams. May he rest in peace.
Comic book writer Denny O'Neil has passed away at age 81.
Damn seeing too much death lately of all these creators. He is probably my favorite Batman writer alongside Morrison. Rest in Peace.
@combo-man: He was also daring enough to tackle controversial topics such as drug addiction and racism in his GL/GA run with Neal Adams, I respect that.
Oh NO, R.I.P Denny. Some of his contributions to Batman include the creation of Ra's al Ghul, Talia al Ghul, Azrael, the Venom drug, Santa Prisca, Arkham Asylum, Bane (basic concept and indirect involvement), Lady Shiva, etc and he revamped the Joker.
@entropy_aegis: A Batman legend.
@entropy_aegis: I knew he was a big name but I never knew he did all that. It sounds like he might be the most influential Batman writer.
His Azrael comics were amazing, both Batman: Sword of Azrael and the ongoing title Azrael (later retitled Azrael: Agent of the Bat) produced some of my favorite DC comics during the 90s.
Fuck, I hope his family is doing well and he died peacefully. He was one of my favorite comic book writers and one of the most inspirational to me. I will miss him.
He did so much for comics in general but the one that means the most to me is how he started writing Batman. He definitely made the personality I associate the most with Batman. His interpretation of the character is top 3 for me and my other favorite interpretations where based on his. To me he created modern Batman and for that I will always remember him.
Haven’t heard of him, but regardless R.I.P.
Well this is even sadder than his death.

Shanman was also pretty good. He basically co-created Al Ghuls and most of the essential stories even from animated series.
Rip

He was a great editor too, I don't care too much for the Shreck era that followed his tenure, thank God for Morrison.

Yeah, he's Frank Miller's and Grant Morrison's favorite Batman writer. Christopher Priest also credited his Black Panther as basically being a combination of O'Neal's Ra's al Ghul and Batman (read it on his site several years ago). Also created Bronze Tiger, Richard Dragon and was involved in Tim Drake's creation.
Definitely one of the all time great writers and editors in the history of the industry. he really helped develop Batman into the version of the character that most people recognize.
Yep, he helped batman from the 60s goofy era, since the 60s show influced the comics
